Just furious

Unread post by Calixte »

I find it pretty ironic that I just posted a couple times here this morning, talking about how I feel my faith in the hunter community has been renewed this week. The events of today have really, utterly changed my mind. I love hunters, I love this forum, but I don't love the behavior I've seen around me today. Please help me stay positive!

I've been camping Deth'tilac for quite awhile now. I do go away, do my dailies, camp with my friend for his pets, etc. but I always check back when I know a spawn is due. Prior to today, I have had him taken from me four times. The first two were Alliance non-hunters just racing to kill him while I tried desperately to tame. Then, I had a Horde hunter steal the tame from me with the help of a druid friend. I didn't even know it was possible to steal a tame like that. He insisted that he was there and camping first, despite my tagging the spider and the fact that I had been there for almost 5 hours. Two days later I lost him again between another Troll hunter trying to tame and Alliance non-hunters once again trying to kill him faster than a tame could go through. Today I logged on and started my camp. I moved away from the spawn point just for a moment to do my dailies, and the hunter who had stolen my tame pulled out his Deth in Molten Front, setting off my NPC Scan. He then proceeded to use his spider throughout his Molten Front dailies. After that hunter left, I cleared my cache and started my camp again. Not 20 minutes after that, Deth spawned. I did the first 50% of the kite by myself, using my spider and my surv spec to keep him slow and away from me. Others joined in, but most were Horde and trying to be helpful. I then had a Night Elf hunter run in and do everything he could to pull it off of me and tame it. When he found he could not finish a tame, he proceeded to kill it while I stood by, desperately trying to tame.

I logged for awhile, furious. I might have even done some frustrated crying. I understand being totally discouraged by not seeing your favorite rare spawn for awhile. I know how frustrating Ankha and Magria are for some people. However, I feel like Deth and the other spiders are just a case of pure, unadulterated faction hatred. What did I do so wrong to this NE hunter that he felt he had to kill my hard work out from under me? I've since decided that I just don't have the spirit right now to cope with the constant griefing during my attempted tames. It's not worth it to wear myself out camping for a pet that will be killed when I try to tame it.

I decided instead to try and get King Krush or Loque. There are so few people around Northrend now, right? As I'm flying around searching for Loque, the one spirit beast I always wanted and could never find, a Night Elf hunter pulls his out to trip my NPC scan as I fly by Nesingwary Base Camp. What the hell? It didn't seem like a mistake or something, but instead a taunt towards me. He just stood with it out as I flew by.

I'm so tired of this, guys. I'm getting a headcold and suffering from some weird joint pain lately, so my tolerance is low. I'm so frustrated tonight that I honestly feel like I should just stop playing.

(I hope I put this in the right place)

Get some rest and come back to the hunt when you feel better. *hugs* Things will work out in the end.

Sigh, sorry to hear you have it so rough. Personally I don't even try to camp Deth atm. Didn't try it yet and I don't want to because I'm afraid something like that will happen to me. The tame just takes too much time in which someone can come and steal/kill it. On the other hand, farming a different pet sounds like a good idea. Sure there are people like the hunter you've met in Sholazar - but that's very rare. Only people who sit in Sholazar nowdays are levelers and other hunters - but rarely griefers. Personally I always stay cold blooded for people who set NPC scanners. Always have a /target macro for the pets I want and just ignore them until they fly away - that's when I clear my cache.

Karma is a bitch. I had Deth stolen 6 times before I successfully tamed it, I'm so sorry to tell you. As an apology, I got Ban'thalos and Ankha within 2 hours of each other two days after taming Deth (I already had Magria, BEFORE Deth, from dumb hunters not knowing how to tame her). I also got guildies to help me tame my dear Vali (Chromaggus), since he is a raid-only tamable pet. So I was compensated for losing Deth so much.

I also got Kirix super fast as soon as I entered Firelands, so perhaps karma was making me wait to tame Deth. And Solix cost me 100g in repair bills, so these challenge tames are a super bitch, made even worse by griefers. You CAN REPORT THEM, btw. The GMs might not do anything, but if they get enough reports, they'll have to. The NElf huntard that killed Deth from under my BElf friend the other day had about 6 people report her. I'm betting she at least gets slapped with a 3 hour ban. Hopefully more, but thats likely all they'll do.

I was there last night when this all went down. Being an ally and Cali being horde, we can't group, but we've forged a friendship over this wretchid patch of grief in our attempts to get our pets. The night elf she mentioned got an earful from me, to which he replied..."I didn't know it was a hunter pet, I thought it had loot"...among calling me an idiot and such and so on. Cali had been staying up for nights in a row helping me wait for Magria, while 9 Ankhas' in a row spawned, and she has been hosed out of Deth what seems as many times. I feel her pain, and I am sick of Blizzard ignoring the requests to penalize or discourage this behavior. I believe that this qualifies as harrassment, but since they are "only pets" they get back-burnered. I believe that our pets are as important as any epic, and it's damn time the dev's look at that in that fashion...I'm sorry again Cali, I know you're sick...when ya feel better we'll start anew ;)

Hunters are occasionally more loyal to their class than their own faction. I've seen hunters from both factions gang up on non-hunters of the same/opposing faction before. It was epic. Since I play both sides, I ended up learning that the non-hunters who had set out to intentionally grief this certain hunter got a 3 day ban. Good for him and the GM who set it. He deserved such punishment for the griefing. Serious assholes.

I definitely intended to report the Nelf who killed Deth, because from my side of things, it certainly looked like he was stealing my pet away. At one point I attempted to start the tame and noticed that someone else was currently trying to tame him, which made me think he knew it was a special rare after all. Unfortunately, after Deth went down I was so upset that I just logged for awhile, and completely forgot to get the guy's name. Sounds like my bestest WoW buddy crossface gave him an earful, though, so I'm going to tell myself that he'll act differently in the future.

Thank you to everyone for the love and encouragement! I will not be trying for Deth again, but I do fly by Sholazar every once in awhile to check for Loque or Krush. While doing a little spirit beast camping out there, I randomly decided to tame myself a rhino and see how I felt about him. Turns out, I LOVE HIM! His name is Hektor and he is the BEST buddy. I absolutely adore him in BGs where he just tosses people left and right and is impossible to kill. He's been escorting me through Heroic Utgarde Pinnacle, also, and does quite well. Hektor is currently filling my LAST stable slot, and while I tell myself if I find Loque, I will let my rhino buddy go, I'm not totally sure I could do that anymore. This stupid rare spider drama brought me a new and very well-loved friend!

I'm also particularly grateful for the Hyjal rarespawn drama because it brought me one of my favorite new people, crossface07. We kept each other company on long camps, cheered each other on when we found success, and were always able to comfort each other when that inevitable kill/opposite faction steal/etc happened. We're the best cross-faction buddies ever!

In my personal life, I was diagnosed this week with probable rheumatoid arthritis. I've been struggling to play WoW for awhile because of the swelling in my fingers, and my mood has been increasingly dark as of late. Knowing there is a physical cause for my many discomforts is, in itself, pretty comforting, even if it's something as unpleasant as arthritis. Instead of continuing to camp for pets when I know it'll just make me miserable and sore, I've spent my time on the game doing things I actually love! I've been leveling a new hunter purely for the sake of the random pet challenge, and I do my dailies every day as I inch closer to having 100 mounts. I would also like to say that this community continues to bring me joy and remind me that I really, really do love hunters!

I actively camp Deth's spawn to assure SOMEONE tames him every time. I hate seeing him die cuz people think its kewl. However, if two certain hunters show up there, I will NOT help them. Anyone else, free game, I'll help and look for you!

The more Deth rantings I see, the more I think that he has to have the poorest design of all the spiders. It's SO easy to accidentally kill him, too easy to tame steal, etc.

This is exactly why I refuse to camp deth, I have just read to many stories of stealing,killing..UGH!..makes me tired.

I might camp deth one day when the newness of this patch wheres off but for now, I have all the rares I wanted for this patch with only one problem, I was accused of stealing Magria which I honestly did not mean to do, was never my intention, and yeah I live with the guilt from that because I never thought I would be accused of doing something like that, I'm not that kind of person or hunter. But at least I owned up to my mistake which is more then I can say for a lot of these other hunters..or other classes killing and stealing rares.

Anyways take a break from camping for a while and find other things to do, that's what I'm doing and it's actually fun. :)

I camp Deth's spawn for FUN. Normally, it IS fun, when it goes off properly and the right people (the ones who whisper me first) get it. When its ganked, I get pissed. However, I do have a rule when I am camping Deth. Whoever gets there first and tags him first, I help and root for. Alliance or Horde. An alliance friend that I had been trying to get Deth for for a long time logged on after a horde hunter was already there, and I felt bad. By my own rules, I had to help the horde, because he was first. It didn't matter if the ally was my friend. Whats fair is fair. And he was there first. ><

I don't ever bother to camp for rares. Either I have people in my guild poke me or they just appear. For my first tame at Molten front I didn't even bother to go actually CAMP. I just Eagle Eyed the Furnace surroundings. Easier and makes people less suspicious if you're looking for a rare. I'd do the same with Deth if you ever feel like going to have a look. Especially if it's a more quiet time of the day, so that not tons of players do their warden dailies.

For the Sholazar part I just wish you good luck and hope you'll find a way to ignore the random possible griefers.

I stopped camping yesterday. Not one person has received any help from me since then. I've had a few ask if anything was wrong. I just said no and that I needed to do my dailies.

Again, thanks to everyone for your words of encouragement. I've been stopping by Sholazar every once in awhile and haven't seen Loque or Krush, so I just figure if it's meant to be, I'll find them! As far as Deth goes, my good buddy Alystair insists that he'll help me get the pesky spider, but I'm not sure I really am feeling it anymore. This insane griefing has taken the fun out of the hunter challenge for me. I thought the challenge was the unique taming tactics themselves, not enduring cross-faction and cross-class hatred. As Monica said, Deth seems to have a very poor design, and it will only get worse as people open up the Shadow Warden quests over by his spawn point. I've been just logging on Cali to do dailies, at this point. I'm enjoying leveling my baby hunter, Poochyená.

You should!! It's miserable and can progress really quickly if you're not keeping on top of it. I got my first swelling and soreness in January but figured it was related to school and doing a lot of computer work, and ignored it. When my toes started to swell and hurt this summer, which prevented me from doing my retail job, I finally went in to my doctor last week. Since then the pain and swelling have spread substantially and I was given a pretty nasty NSAID to try and remedy some of it until I can see a specialist. Don't let it wait! Really, having it progress further is the worst.

I wouldn't camp anyway, I've never gotten any of my rare via camping. I either run into them eventually or my buddy see's one of them up and lets me know. Just keep checking, it's far less stressful on you and this gives you more time to yourself to enjoy other things. Be random with your checking and do it several times a day. It's worked for me countless times.

While doing my Loque camp last week I happened across a very nice hunter who said she's been looking for Loque on and off since he was first announced. Feeling a little bad because I've just been very casually camping him for a couple weeks, I backed off my camp and told her I'd be happy to return once she'd found hers. Then I flew to Zul'Drak to see if I could find her the Gondria she'd mentioned wanting. No purple kitty, but I did find Arcturis in Grizzly Hills! My new friend already had him, but we rehomed him to a guildie of hers - he was the first spirit beast for this new hunter, and she was so excited! It felt great to help another hunter find a happy tame.

Then, this morning while doing my Molten Front dailies, I came across Skitterflame. I whispered around until I found a hunter wanting her, so I invited him to the party and sat down to guard his spider while he worked his way over to me. I shooed away a couple Alliance, asked a very nice DK to please leave the spider alone, and killed a bunch of fire hawks. The hunter never really worked his way up there until much later on, but he did thank me for the alert and the tips to getting up to the mountain. I also got a 100g tip!

Meanwhile, my Oracles egg hatched today, giving me....aged yolk :( :( :( . I flew myself to Sholazar, not planning on doing any camping because 1) I had decided not to camp and 2) Loque was already cached for me anyway. But, as I flew over the gorillas in the Southeastern-most spawn point, a bigger white form caught my eye! There was Loque, just hanging out. I didn't experience the usual frantic tame with button mashing and craziness, but that's okay. I've been waiting the longest for even a glimpse of Loque. He is beautiful, and while his model is not my favorite, his noises more than make up for it! His name is Lysander in keeping with my (mostly) Greek names theme. SO REMEMBER! Karma is so very kind to you when you deserve it. Be nice to your fellow hunters, and eventually things seem to work out in your favor.

This is very sound advice! While I have had to do several camps for the more popular rares, some of my favorites have just been there on a random flyby.
