It finally happened to me. :(
I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, but I have to vent. D:
I've mentioned this in a few threads, but I've sworn to myself that I wasn't going to camp Skarr until the Molten Front wasn't quite as populated. However, I was bored tonight, and after doing a /who for hunters in the Molten Front and seeing there were only three, my curiosity got the best of me, and I decided to head over.
I positioned myself between the two spawn points, and kept the Winds haste buff up on myself while I waited. I got bored and Eagle Eyed over to Deth's spawn point, and he was up, so I announced it in general since I have him. Another hunter whispered me and I was explaining to her how to tame him.
I was ALMOST going to go over and help her, when my NPC Scan goes off, and IT'S FINALLY SKARR. I've been there a hundred times since the patch and never seen him spawn. My hands started shaking and I was freaking out. I got the Winds buff again, hit my Ancient Hysteria/dismiss pet macro, and hit my tame macro, but I was out of his line of sight. I was panicking, and screwed up the jump onto the rocks, and as I'm falling, I see an Alliance priest jump over and dot Skarr up.
That fall to my death was the slowest death I have ever had in WoW. Of course it sent me to the graveyard all the way across the Molten Front. I frantically ran back, but I'm sure we all know what I saw when I rezzed.
...Skarr's dead body.
I was FURIOUS. Beyond furious. I wanted to smash my keyboard. I'd heard all the terrible stories, and I knew it would happen to me eventually after all the good luck I'd had lately. I should have stayed away from the Molten Front but I couldn't help myself. My fiance woke up from a nap and came in and I started crying when I told him what happened. I feel stupid crying over pixels but god I was so angry. If another hunter had gotten him, fine, I screwed up and if they didn't, they deserved to have him. But to witness someone killing him (I looked her up in the armory, she's been playing a long time and I guarantee she knew better) just to be a complete jerk makes me seriously hate people. =/
I'm not even going back there for dailies for a couple months, when people are hopefully going to be done there and it'll be empty. I feel silly getting so upset over a game, but I don't even want to think about how angry I would feel if I saw that happen a second time. D':

Re: It finally happened to me. :(
This makes me wonder why I had such good luck with my Molten Front rares... Skarr I found up when I decided to check after logging in to find a dead molten front... Lucked out and the path I took up (first time doing the rock hopping) had the winds buff, and Skarr was sitting there on one of the spots easily in reach of the main island. Tame went off without a single cast completing. Solix I camped for 13 hours after a failed attempt, but other than a troll hunter trying to steal the tame after I kited her (good luck.. i had I think probably 500%+ wow threat), that also went off flawlessly. Karkin was a bit more interesting, as it was announced in general and there were maybe half a dozen of us at least taking turns. And a mage or something that kept throwing some freeze spell over. Not sure if they thought they were trying to help or not, but Karkins health went low quite a few times but was never killed. In the end, I ended up being the one with the successful tame.
I wish I could find a way to spread the luck around... *gives everyone luck cookies*

Re: It finally happened to me. :(
Aye, my Skarr was also easily tamable from the mainland, no rock hopping required. The other hunters were mostly afk or didn't want Skarr, so I pulled with tame, silenced, tamed and had a pretty black metal cat run to me. I barely went below half health. I'm guessing I had enough haste gear equipped at the time that using pots/food didn't matter, because I never expected to tame him and was not prepared (punny, hehe, if you get it, cookies) but I got him anyway. Raoden is now stabled, since I like my green spider, my spirit cats, and Banny better. Leaving one spot open as always, just in case I see something I really like that I hadn't noticed before.

Someone told me her name (I didn't see it as I was falling, I just saw her dotting up Skarr and got angry) and I was so tempted to, but I know she would have lied and said she didn't know. Or she would have made me even angrier and told me to suck it up or something.Jessibelle wrote:I prolly would've cussed the priest out.
I told my fiance that I didn't want to go back there for awhile, and he said I'd be letting her win if I didn't go back. But sigh, I don't really want to deal with that crap again. =/

The NElf bitch that stole Deth from a sweet little BElf hunter told me (while I was helping the BElf on my alliance toon) that "if I cant have it, she can't, and she's horde, you're a traitor for helping her, asshole!" I just sighed and reported her for griefing, giving the other hordies her name and spelling and such when I logged back over. Its all you can do for the babies that think throwing a tantrum will somehow make them feel better.

Re: It finally happened to me. :(
Is it bad when it comes to people griefing hunters, I will willingly punish my own guild members? I have a hunter alt but my main is a holy paladin. Yesterday one of the people in my guild (a ret paladin) said that Solix was up and asked how to get it to drop its buff. I thought maybe he was asking to help someone out, but a couple minutes later he let it slip that he was wanting to kill it. Myself and the other guild hunters jumped on him and told him not to kill it. 5-10 minutes later he posts in guild chat "That Horde must be PISSED!" Later on when we were in raid for Firelands, I purposely refused to heal him on trash (another hunter had talked another guild shaman into not directly healing him). Unfortunately, some other guildies appeared to heal him a time or two, though I was hoping he'd die amongst the scorpions or other trash

Re: It finally happened to me. :(
Oh man, I'd be rofling if I'd been able to do that. I was a healer main in WOTLK before I realized killing stuff is more fun, and I would occasionally let anyone who pissed me off die on purpose. They were just usually like "WTF Healer?" I was just like "oh, I lagged" *whistles*. Some of them knew me, and knew that I purposely let that person die because they had said/done something rude to me before the raid and usually just laughed with me. A few of the officers told me to knock it and that I was being a petty dick, but come on, it was FUNNY! I did stop. I became a hunter instead. Now pissing people off by paying back gankers or MDing to asshats who annoy me. Regular raid day:
Person who pissed me off: Okay, dps time! I'll mash them meters! (or some other really stupid remark about dps meters)
Me: *whistles innocently and puts MD on this person*
Person: Wha? Why am I in? OH YOU ASSHOLE HUNTER! Who did that!? *dies*
Me: *Feigns and camos away innocently*

Haha, if only a raided on my hunter I might have been tempted to do that, but I probably would've gotten caught. Plus I did warn him that if he killed it, I'd let him die, lol. We'll see what happens in tonight's raid

There is no tempted about it! Its fun to MD jerkbags. Especially the ret pallies and arms warriors who think they can tank trash packs on their own. Well, wanna find out mister muscle ret pally? Here ya go! MD. Feign. Enjoy your repairs, jerk. And your complete failure at tanking.
That was a really douche thing for that pally to do though. Go out of his way to kill Solix? I'd say he got his just desserts. More dying. Let him keep dying in future raids and see if he doesn't apologize for being a dick.

Re: It finally happened to me. :(
the same thing happened to me last night. i actually sat here and cried. i've camped for him 2 weeks and both time's i've tried to tame him he has killed me and before i could back someone had killed him. i believe i am totally done with this game i guess i am getting too old to deal with immature people. and it irritates me that blizzard cannot do anything about this. why can't they phase all the rares and allow hunters to purchase a buff to see them and allow the buff to last for a week. not sure but i believe it would work better than it working now. I watched skitterflame and karkin and anthriss and skarr all die yesterday because some people think its fun. well i personally have had it.

Re: It finally happened to me. :(
Nana, just wait a couple months before camping any of the molten front stuff. To be honest, anyone who camps now, especially if it's during even a moderate time, is almost asking for the risk to be griefed (note, that doesn't mean I condone griefing, and that you shouldn't report it! please read on for an explanation!) The zones are just soooo busy right now. I've used the analogy before, but it's like throwing a thousand people into a 100 square foot room... People are bound to step on each others' toes, intentionally or not, personalities are bound to clash, etc. Blizzard threw ALL of this patch into a relatively tiny area that is an OPEN single player area. Not an instance. If you camp, you KNOW that right now there's bound to be probably at least 1 or 2 griefers roaming the zone looking for hunters to piss off, and then probably at least another 4 or 5 hunters roaming the zone looking for the rares to tame. Take a break, and go back to it later
In a few months, or possibly even sooner, people will get bored, and move on. I mean, I should have everything unlocked in another week or 2. So it really could be a lot sooner for those that just want, say, the mount.
I honestly am not sure the phasing would work. We don't know how the phasing works, or how development/resource intensive it is. Also... Then people would cry favoritism even more. Anyone stop to think that one reason the griefing is SO bad this patch is because something was added SPECIFICALLY for hunters, and those other people are jealous(in addition to the fact we've all been jammed into a box if we wanna do the new solo content)? If that's the case, then phasing wouldn't solve the problem, just make people more jealous, as then they couldn't try for a challenging kill, or whatever. They'd have to get more creative.. but griefing happens one way or another.
Better solution is to just make them like Ghostcrawler. Or perhaps find someway to add a death debuff that triples armor damage when dying to them (making it more costly to try and grief), although that would negatively affect hunters as well as griefers.

Re: It finally happened to me. :(
As for phasing, none of the rares are phased, no matter what part of the questline you are on. I have had Deth'tilac spawn for me while I was working toward Shadow Wardens and then after I was working FOR Shadow Wardens, so it doesn't matter what phase you're on. The rares will be there.
The only exception is the Thrall thing. If you try and get a rare while doing the Thrall questline and run around Firelands, you're out of luck.

Well, blizz said they used a new form of phasing for molten front so people can group with friends even if they're on different stages, or something.Sarantha wrote:As for phasing, none of the rares are phased, no matter what part of the questline you are on. Yeah. I grouped just today with people who had chosen Druids over Wardens and we both ended up able to see and help each other (while taming Deth'tilac for a hunter friend). This new phasing is much better, and I like it.

Re: It finally happened to me. :(
I am so sorry to hear this happened to you! I started crying myself when a friend of mine was mid-tame on Skarr and a NE hunter shot and killed Skarr right out from under us last night.
He then pulled his Skarr out and stood there making "rude gestures" at us.
I had helped this friend camp for 2 straight days, put in about 30 hours total (thank god I work from home), all for nothing because of someone not wanting someone else to have a pet he already had.
What I think would be appropriate, would be to put the pets in an instance that the hunter has to enter and solo tame them with their own wits.
They could still make the tames a challenge, by putting each in it's own little area with a gimmick/trick to taming, but it would stop people from griefing, and the hunter would have to win the tame challenge using their skills.
I would LOVE that type of scenario. It's reminiscent of the old final fantasy 11 limit break challenge 5 where you had to fight a boss to level past 70.
The challenge is still there, but not the griefing.
I also wish they would create class specific questlines where you get to choose a neat reward at the end.
For us hunters, it could be something like you do the questline and at the end you get to chose one of 3 unique pets.
Just my thoughts lol.

This just proves that night elves and those who play them are dicks (with exceptions! Ignore Ellysetta in my sig, please.) and the rude gestures were totally uncalled for. Report this bitch. I totally agree with the "Beast Master's Challenge" suggested by someone else, where only the hunter and his/her party can help with the tame, that way you KNOW they won't intentionally grief you (unless they have a warped sense of humor).

Good night elves are out there! I have 2 max level night elves that I have used to help people get shiny new pets from the molten front. And I'm sorry that there are people ruining our good rep :/
