A Horse...Err, Lion of Different Color?

I know this has been discussed several times, and I've searched the forums without success (so I apologize if I missed an existing topic), but has anyone actually posted pictures of the various possible Sambas/Golden King re-colors that could be? I know the subject has been broached dozens of times in regards to the possibility of updating the models for Humar/Pitch and Echeyakee/Sian-Rotam, and while there seem to be strong feelings on both sides for and against, I think it would be worthwhile - even simply for the sake of visual appreciation/comparison - to see what the model would look like in the aforementioned black or white, and (if possible) even more colors like blue, red, silver, etc. I don't know the first thing about model editing, so I appeal to anyone with the skill/knowledge, would you be so kind as to show what Sambas would look like with a new paintjob?

You could try the Creative Arts and Writing section down below, I know there's a few recolours or ideas volleyed back and forth. You might have to search through manually, but it's only 30 pages. Hit control+F and you'll be on your way with the find function in IE.

Akyo did some recolors of Sambas as well as some Lynxes/Silithids HERE. :)

I know there are others sitting around, but I have no idea where they are specifically. As far as I know every recolor here isn't an actual model edit - rather it's just a Photoshop/Illustrator/Etc. job. It's easy enough to color over a picture to get your ideas across. :)

I know there are no colour alternatives in the database (unlike the Horde scorpid, which they gave 5 different colours!), but maybe someone will do some recolours. I know Spiritbinder has expressed interest in trying to modify and recolour skin files if I send them to him and then put back the finished product for modelling. Maybe he'd be keen to give Sambas a try at some stage

Caelaza and Nubhorns thank you for the tip, there were some great recolors there and those definitely provided some great insight into the future might hold in terms of possibilities for these higher resolution pet models! And Wain thank you that would be amazing if that ever happened so please keep me posted!

Most recolors people create and post are just a photo of the model, recolored in photoshop or a similar program. Not an actual model edit. To actually do a recolor that will work in WMV, you need to recolor the basic skin files which are found in the MPQ files as .BLP extensions. They look something like this:

When draped over the model, it will look like this in the model viewer:


I no longer model edit in game, but I can create custom skins for WMV.
