Karkin Tales

[Lupis]

A little journal for me to keep track of my Karkin sightings and what happened each time. Mostly because I'm bored and annoyed. >.<

Edited. After talking I've found out a little more about what happened here. Text makes a bad show of intent and emotion.
Anyway.
Woke up very late to find Karkin up, so I sped over to tame, after looking for bodies/people. Nobody there (And I was wrong, apparently. >.<) so I tried to tame. Almost got it off and a troll pulled off, and we both died.
Now, this is where the story changes a little, because now I know more. Woo, first impressions!
What I took as a curt and unfriendly reply was... probably text messing up the message. I whispered her on my Horde alt and talked. I was not happy at all, but congratulated her and wished her luck. She had a war against alliance going on (and mentioned having Magria taken from her) and, later, mentioned being the first one there.
At that time I was still pretty ticked. But now I'm not quite as. Either way, though, it was technically her tame as she was there first.
...And I later learned that she payed me. (Sending it back, but the thought was appreciated.)
...So yeah, I misinterpreted things a bit. Go me!

Later I ended up finding Deth'tilac and helping my Horde guild master tame it, much to both of our glee. It was a perfect tame, both of us juggled our pets to make sure it went well. Nobody even showed up besides us. There was a shaky moment when his UI unexpectedly reset when he tried to release his trash spider, but I had my pet web Deth so all was good.

I logged, had dinner, came back. Eagle Eye'd over to Karkin's spot and he was up! ...And there was a troll there, clearly about to tame. Bloody...
Well, it wasn't working for him. I decided to come up anyway, maybe he'd give up... I almost considered waiting until he died and taming, but that would be repulsive of me. Instead I nodded at him and waited for him to start the tame, then silenced Barrage for him. Tame went off. I logged on my Horde to congratulate him. Luckily, he was a really nice guy, so I don't feel that bad about missing Karkin.

And now... To wait. I'll start my camp at the six hour mark - maybe a bit earlier - and wait it out. If Skarr spawns, I'll home him somewhere... And wait.

Edit. Third sighting! After all that camping, he was killed. Sigh.

His next spawn time started at 7AM, which was not the usual time for me to wake up, so I was assuming I'd miss a spawn time..
Yet, by some incredible act of will... I got up at 6:55 without an alarm clock. o.o
Continuing the camp.

And, Skarr spawned at 7:40AM Server time! My camping buddy wanted him but didn't understand the tame... And before we could try again, an orc warrior ran past us and two other hunters and killed him.

Yup. I hate this place.

And, Skarr! Again! Killed almost instantly after a hunter tried to tame him.

7:10 PM EST, Skarr spawned again and was at least tamed. Gah! More 1AM camping!

Karkin was a total random tame for me. I was up there trying to help a BM/Surv friend tame Skarr if he spawned using my silence shot since I'm MM, and Karkin spawns. She has Karkin, so asks if I want him. No other hunters were even in the area, so I pulled with tame beast, silenced him, then tamed him. I wasn't even prepared and had no haste food/pots with me, not expecting Karkin to spawn (I already had Skarr, so didn't care about him) and got a wonderful surprise gem crab out of it. Good luck with your tame.

I can't believe those horde dickheads. Report it for griefing (the dick one). It IS griefing and have a few others report him if they saw him. Or her. If it was a female. If more than one person reports him/her, I know for a fact that the griefer will be slapped with at least a 3 hour ban.

I wish you far better luck in future tames and may your gem crab come home with you! (I'm faction neutral, so I don't care if you're horde or alliance. I would join the Argent Crusade and be neutral if it let me.)

Right now, I've been camping Deth'tilac for four hours, even though I have him, in case some other hunter wants him but can't be bothered with camping. I don't mind it. Its peaceful and rewarding once you get the mob for the other person. =)

I find that amusing. I decide to check the website and the first post I see is about me.

I've had enough with other Alliance stealing the tame and killing the rares. I've been polite most of the time, but frankly I've had enough, really. WHen I see an Alliance competing with a rare, it's war. I'll always help a Horde, but I'll fight against a Alliance every time.

"Stealing" the tame is not a bannable offense. It's part of the annoying competition mechanic Blizzard installed with these rares.

I believe I was rather polite with you and gave you a reply, when I never get one. I also enjoy how you left out the fact I gave your horde alt compensation in gold and a polite explaination.

You had more than enough time to recover your corpse and tame as well. I spent a good half an hour trying to tame Karkin after you left myself.

Once again, good luck trying to tame Karkin. Hopefully you'll have better luck.

Ah, I hadn't logged on my horde hunter since, Parkta. And I apologize for coming off so offensive. I was not a very happy person. And no, I didn't report you - as I said, once I realized that I wasn't the first person, I was a lot less angry. I believe most of my anger came from the War Against Alliance. I have always, always hated that attitude. Some Alliance are jerks, but had I known that you had come before me, I never would have tried to tame. The reason I didn't grab rez sickness and try to come back and instead whispered you was because I didn't want to steal your tame. Not *all* Alliance are jerks, and to be treated like I am one is a little unfair. (Coming from someone who called you a jerk for being curt. >.> I'm not a hypocrite, I swear!)

I'll edit the OP so it isn't as offensive now that I know more of the story.

I hate to sound like a complete dick, but what is so hard about taming Karkin/Skarr? Are you guys just failing at silencing them? I silenced Karkin AND Skarr and tamed them both without dying once within about 10 seconds or however long the tame takes to go off. Really, what is the issue? I am honestly concerned here, and would like to try and offer my tips if I can. You can armory my character, Sarantha, orc huntress of Runetotem US, and see I'm not all decked out in epic gear, so I don't even have insane haste.

Edit: "Stealing" the tame while the mob is tagged IS griefing and IS a bug, as confirmed by two GMs for me, but if the other hunter dies, no its not griefing, but it IS harassment if the other hunter starts badgering you with rude comments.

Actually, yes, 'stealing' a tame is reportable. It falls under griefing, so it's best to be careful no matter how much the OMG TAME squee hits.

Edit: I know it's double hard if you're trying to tame as non-BM. What helped with Novi was counting to four then hitting silencing shot and starting tame again.

Edit: And yeah, the graphics on low are hard to see. :/ Good luck to both of you and I am glad this was sorted out peacefully.

It wasn't really stealing. I knew that before she even replied here. She got there first, so I was stealing from her. I just didn't know she was there first until after it all.

Aaand, no luck for me! Camped for six hours and he was killed by another. freaking. hunter.

Continuing bad luck. Skarr killed while I was helping someone tame him. (I feel bad for saying this, but at least it wasn't Karkin. I would have flipped my lid.)

I was helping a hunter tame Karkin last night and a NElf kept tagging him and shooting him just to make him cast his spell and kill us. We eventually got smart and backed up when he was casting it, and it pissed the NElf off so he tried just killing it. Luckily for us, he was in Surv spec and died.

My BElf friend pulled with tame, I silenced Karkin for her (she was BM), the other hunter in the group popped AH for the haste, the NElf comes back and starts shoot Karkin, interrupting her tame and causing another Fieroclast to go off. I was frantically watching my silence button before Karkin cast the another. I got it off in time and the NElf die to fireballs and a punisher he'd aggro'd, and she got her Karkin. I HATE people who deliberately try and fuck up a tame. She was there for 6 hours. I talked to her for almost that long, so I know the NElf was not there first. It was not a misunderstanding, it was just him being a dick.

To make things better, I was doing the Hyjal dailies, when Ankha spawns. No one is rushing to tame her, so I tell the same exact BElf about her and she gleefully rushes over. She dies a few times (first due to not being naked, second due to aggroing elementals) but finally walks away with her white kitty. She got two rares in one day. So happy to help other hunters rehome pets! Anyone else from Runetotem that wants a certain pet, add Sarantha the hordie to your list. I'll help you find/camp it even if it takes me hours! Haha.

Lawl.... Should be able to interrupt enough to kill, even as survival, unless your gear is that terrible. Lucky for you, this one's gear was. We won't go into the quality of the player....heh. Grats to your friend!

Yes, the NElf had bad gear. He was all in pvp gear. I didn't make fun of him, but the other hunter in my group did (not the BElf I was helping) saying that pvp gear doesn't make you in his words "uber awsumsauce". It was blue pvp gear too, even worse. I'm not decked in epics, but I also don't go around trying to kill rares in bad pvp gear. He COULD have easily killed/tamed Karkin as any spec. I could have tamed Karkin as BM using the corehound/haste pot method. This guy just didn't get it, I guess, or was just too angry to think straight. Either way, my BElf friend got her pet and I'm happy. I like her, but she kinda fails at taming rares. She needed three hunters to help her get Karkin. I got him in 10 seconds by myself. Oh well. Different people, different players. She may not have read how to do it. Same with her Ankha mistake and how I had to tell her how to do that as well.

I don't mind ever helping, even taking lots of repair bills for people, so it didnt bother me. Just the NElf trying to mess her up bothered me.

Yep, old PvP gear - faillll. If he was wearing season 10 pvp gear, there would have been trouble.

I tamed most of them back when hunters were too clueless to tame everything. I sneaked Skarr right out from under like 6 other hunters. Who were consistently getting killed. That was before people also knew how to kill the rares. As for karkin, he spawned right in front of an afk hunter and it was a very easy tame.

Yeah, I had a troll do that to me with Karkin. :/ He'd get the fireball buffs and then try to kill us.

Yeah, I'm amazed by how many (excuse the language) douches there are when it comes to Skarr and Karkin. Both Skarrs and the only Karkin I saw that wasn't being tamed were all killed almost instantly.

I'm going to camp again in an hour and a half. x.x This is the first time I've seen *every single spawn* of a rare in a certain timeframe. Camping is a pain, but seeing the pet get killed over and over is tearjerking.

My Skarr/Karkin tames were accidental. I was just afking near that area just in case both times, and both times there were at least three other hunters there, so I figured I wouldn't even try if it spawned. Turned out, each time Skarr/Karkin spawned, the other hunters were wanting the OTHER rare, so I was able to tame both without an issue or anyone getting angry at me.

Karkin did have a little problems tho. A troll hunter who was there first also wanted him along with me. We both agreed that she should get him since she was there first, but she died rock hopping and then died during the tame, so while trying to get back to her body, she whispered me and told me to tame him before that worgen that showed up out of nowhere did, so I did. We were both happy, and she did end up getting him finally, so no hard feelings, except maybe that worgen that didn't get the tame (he did fall to his death once, though, so...)

See, my Skarr tame was amazing. I logged on after having a nightmare and trotted around MF but saw nothing, then on my second circle Skarr spawned. I got up, failed the tame, and took rez sickness to try again. (I can't get up the rocks as a ghost, I phase through them.)
Two hunters ended up showing up, but one was a forum/game friend and the other (who is also on the forums) was just amazing. They both ended up helping me tame Skarr.

...I think I used up all my luck!
