A "Spiritual" Dilemma.

Unread post by Oswen »

Hello petopians!

This morning i had what could have been the best taming spree that ever happened to me in 5 year of playtime, however it came with problems of some sort as it wasn't really "intended".

After taming Deth'tilac during the first days of 4.2 i was pretty much set with my stables, having 25 full slots filled with pets which i like (many of them being rare aswell!)and every one of them belonging to a different family in order to have a wide array of different abilities which is a thing i love to have.

However i found myself logging in pretty early this morning and decided it was worth a try to make a rarespawn tour just in case.
I went to Vashj'ir and while Ghostcrawler (which i'm not interested in but was curious to see him in the wild) wasn't up i stumbled across nonetheless than Poseidus himself and menaged to get a nice water mount for me from him (and an enchant bracer:intellect scroll ).
Happy and thrilled as i was i went on to Northrend to look for the timelost protodrake which sadly wasn't up, since i had to wait some minutes for my heartstone i continued to look around just to see wha ti could find.
As i flew down in Zul'Drak i saw Gondria, i never liked her at all so i just left her there since no other hunter was around hoping she may find a good master soon.

Next stop was grizzly hills and...Arcturis was there which i wasn't really expecting to see because i had never saw him in the wild.
I always liked Arcturis since his model was datamined for the first time but since my Spirit Beast slot always belonged to Loque i never got to tame him, i tried to resist, looked if there were any hunter around interested in him but noone was available.
i decided to free a common pet which i can easily get again and just tame the ghostly bear which i always wanted.

However i didn't stop there, i went to Uldum to see if a there was some interesting coloured Madexx and i found that the green one was up (which is the colour of the Madexx i own) so i just /waved at him and went to Hiyal where...i found and tamed Ban'thalos which is probably my favourite spirit beast just after Loque.

I decided it was worth a shot to just check the Twilight Higlands just in case to see if Karoma was up (another beast which i never saw in the wild while i always happen to stumble in Sambas for some reason) and...well...there she was, all alone waiting for someone.
And i ended up taming her aswell >.<

I named my Ban'thalos "Kaepora", Karoma is now "Romulus" like an old wolf i had for a short time (yes, i'll pretend my Karoma is actually a boy) while Arcturis is still unnamed, i'd like to call him "Okku" but if i decide to "merge" him with my bear (old grizzlegut) to make some space in the stable i'll pass his name to him and call him Arthur.

I had to give up on my Spore Bat, Fox and Dog to tame them because even if i liked them alot i never use them really and anyway i can get them again quite easily if i want, however i'll be honest and say that i quite "miss them".
I always liked these spirit beasts (especially Ban'thalos which i saw being mauled to death by people too many times) but i do feel myself a bit "guilty" since i almost never play as BM nowadays and four spirit beasts really take up alot of space in my already crowded stable.
What should i do? I really like them but i'll admit that i do "miss" my old "common" pets which had their own unique "role" while i already had my good old Figaro (Loque) for years who did the Spirit Beast job for me.
I really want to keep them since i really like these models but i umm...i don't know why all of a sudden i feel like the pets i gave up for them mattered more than i expected them to even if they are just "ready to be tamed" if i ever need them again unlike these newcomers.
It's a strange feeling =/

If you feel remorse for abandoning a pet - no matter how 'common' - it was probably best to have kept them. I had the same issue when I dropped my wolf for Arcturis, no less - I liked the bear, he was nice and shiny, but I missed my wolf and I never played BM anyway. I'd suggest thinking it over and figuring out if you can live without the surplus spirit beasts - maybe 'relocate' them to a different hunter? - because imo if you're missing your old pets, you need to get them back. Just from reading this post it seems like Karoma was the most 'spontaneous' tame here, since you gave reasoning for Arcturis(you've always wanted him) and Ban'thalos(he's your second favorite SB) but Karoma was just there - is it possible you can live without her? As for the other two, see if you can form a bond - if not, it may be best to let them go versus keeping them around instead of your old pets.

I wholly empathize, since it's a dilemma I've had before, except that my stables have not yet filled up.

I would say go ahead and spend some good quality time with your new spirit beasts, take them to interesting places, get some fun screen shots, and then pick the spirit beast that you want to keep and release the rest. Then you can go track down your old friends, who have been enjoying their vacation! :)

Oh well...
I did as suggested and played with my new pets for a bit, did some istances, dailies and pvp with them and realized that while having a good time they still weren't meant for me so i decided to let them go.
I took some farewell screenshots and while i still felt a bit bad (especially for letting Ban'thalos go) it was still very great to have my fox and spore bat (i know someone would ridiculize me for this :? ) back again into the team.

However... i did it again.
Before going to Northrend to go and get my last old friend back, my dog named Alfred, i decided to do the Molten Front dailies first and there stood on a flying rock the little fellow known as Karkin, which i like ALOT, was there waving his pincers at me.
I always liked him since he got discovered but i never camped him because i knew i didn't have space and i would have to let my dog go for him since my philosophy is to not stack pets with the same abilities (exotics with the same abilities as normal pets don't count!) so i "intentionally" avoided him because i knew i would have tamed him if i ever had the chance.

I decided to resist and wait a bit to see if some hunter would show up, i whispered one but he was interested only in Skarr while in the meantime the crab was there, chilling on his rock.
After a while, however, Karkin found a person who was interested in him: a horde Balance druid that for some reasons wanted to kill him even if i was standing near it.
As he casted his solarbeam his intentions were quite clear and i menaged to kill the druid instead before he could take out the little beast, after that i just went out and tamed the little guy, named him Barnaby (and i put on my Associate Professor title but i disgress...) and took it home.

And now i find myself in troubles again, i'd love to get my dog back but i love this little guy aswell, i guess i should just never leave Stormwind to avoid any other situation like this.
Someone please let me rent one more stable slot...just one!

Blizzard could so be on a moneymaker if they made extra stable slots a paid upgrade!

A lot of hunters seem to be missing the point these days that it's OKAY to prefer your sporebat (or whatever other favorite) to some of the new shinies. ;) Just cause it sparkles, it doesn't mean you have to love it forever and ever. :)

Barnaby definitely wanted to go home with you! I'm sure he's grateful for the save. As for Alfred, hrm, maybe it's time to look at the rest of your stable again - just to see if anything's changed in comparison to Alfred/Barnaby.

I love how you basically did a found a spirit beast.... yadda yadda yadda .... found another spirit beast

I didn't even CATCH it the first time that you ran into Poseidus! Poseidus finding shouldnt be included in the yadda yadda yadda! Considering his 72ish Hour respawn time and his epic BOE riding seahorse mount!

I cant find spirt beasts anyware, But today was an extreamly rare find. I found Emberwing and Dart all on the same day without them as my targets! So if your in a funk about spirit beasts, fly or ride around and you might get lucky.

Indeed i had never seen so many rares in such a short time in five years of Wow but i admit that i usually don't log on at 8 am as i did that day ;)

Poseidus was indeed quite a surprise but well...i like my new greenish seahorse mount!
