ok here is my 3rd story on this page. 1st up is that karkin was up. i called a guildy who wanted to tame him. there was a NE hunter there. i'm horde so i couldn't do much. but thank you NE hunter for not stealing the tame:). when my friend got over there, there was a human pally came and murdered karkin! (the NE told me while i was on my ally toon she and about 4 other hunters that were in her guild wanting to tame yelled at him for hours after wards ) me my guildy a guildy's friend and the NE all sent in tickets on this guy...no response yet.2nd. deth was up after i camped hi for 8 hours! i called my guildy (the same from the karkin thing) and we kited him around. then this NE hunter shows up (not the one for the karkin thing) and waits till we get him down low enough then starts spamming tame! and he got him! /cry. it's not fair. we did all the work and yet got nothing out of it. and the other people there (all ally) cheered him! they were all for the same guild. it seemed like they did it for a sport especially after he dismissed his new spider and brought out 4 other deths!:'(
EDIT: deth spawned but for like the next 5 min me and 3allys and a helpful hunter kited him around. but the alli never stopped. the kept on killing him. and killing him. then they laughed at me when he was dead. (sigh) i quit. i quit camping for rares. i can't raid i can do dungeons that well but i can camp and tame rares but his?! 5 different times he was tame/kill in front of me. it just ain't worth it.
grr it happened again with solix! i already have him but a guildy wants him. grr i can't report these people cause they all use fancy alt codes that i don't know how to do.

I was camping Ban'thalos for a friend, offered another hunter 1k to leave, he said okay and left, I paid him his 1k. Banny spawns. The hunter I paid comes back and tames him and laughs. I report him for scamming. Got a response in about 2 hours (!) and got my 1k back. WTF!? People should know Blizz keeps chat logs of this stuff! If he didn't want the gold and just wanted the tame, fine, he shoulda told me instead of lying and taking my gold, KNOWING he'd get it taken back from him once I reported him. 1k isn't a lot, but he still scammed me and cheated my friend out of an awesome pet he promised to leave alone.

Edit: The friend was there too, trying to tame him, but couldn't land on the tree just right. This jerk does it the first tame and laughs at her attempts. *insert long string of swear words here*

I went to look for Skarr for the first time today. Five alliance hunters camping there. They all turn at the same time and start arcane shotting my face off. Had to take rez sickness. -__-;

Now I'm even more pissed off...I just found out that while I was messing with Kirix this morning, Magria spawned, and I've been wasting the last two hours waiting when the min spawn time just started now.

Well skarr spawned and with the help of to paladins I was 3 seconds away from taming and boom. A horde hunter jumped out and killed him.

Registered just to give a pointer on your Skoll-hunt: if he isn't up, don't just loaf around waiting. If you have a friend available, have them fly around Northrend killing other rare spawns. There can be 1 to 5 up at any time, randomly selected. Lowest recorded respawn on any mob so far is 45 minutes. I have personally killed a Vyragosa and then killed her again exactly one hour later. This mechanic only applies to Northrend rares.

Back on topic, I may as well contribute. First (legitimate) day on the Molten Front, I loafed around waiting for Skarr, chitchatting to the other hunters around waiting for Deth and suchlike. Well Deth was the first to pop, and an all-out war raged over that spider. A draenei hunter who had been griefing around was on the scene, aggro-battling between a horde hunter who'd been waiting all night. I watched via Eagle Eye, this intense fight, back and forth, neither side letting up. Naturally, Deth'tilac died. Much rage and sad ensued.

Shortly after things settled down to some extent, Kirix popped. An undead hunter was there, and of course the draenei showed up, another battle ensued, and the undead managed to pull off the tame. I was super happy for him simply on the principle that she wasn't able to steal another rare from someone. The Alliance that had been there actually camping for Kirix was incredibly angry when I later talked to him about the draenei (bucket load of drama, I won't get into it but I will say it has since been resolved). I felt bad for him as well. :< A few hours later I was shocked when Skarr spawned. I raced over, pulled off the tame without a hitch, and was surprised when I turned around to find the draenei standing there.. congradulating me. I was deeply confused by this after all I'd seen of her before, but was thankful she hadn't tried to kill or steal the cat from me. We're almost something like cross-faction pet-buddies now, haw.

I also once had the displeasure of watching some dumbass paladin kill Ban'thalos while multiple hunters tried to tame. What a mess of trap-breaking, pew pewing, and rage-spamming that was.

I will say, though, as much rage as I feel seeing rares get stolen/killed, I wouldn't want them to be "once you tag it, no one can take it". That would take a huge amount of the thrill out of the hunt, imho. It's already to the point where none of these rares are really rare at all. "Oh you have Sambas too? Yawn."

Actually, while this is a popular theory, it's never been proven. It's been disproven a number of times, yet it always seems to pop back up.

To Noodle: Camp whichever way you think is best. Whatever works best for you will be the way you end up finding your pet.

On topic, camping for TLPD sucks. Every time I've tried this before I got ganked repeatedly. I'll just be sitting there, tabbed out, and then all of the sudden I'm dead. It's so impossibly annoying!

Hopefully that won't happen this time. :/

yeah it is. very much so. had a friend camping with me (i for skoll she for tlpd) and she (and me though i was flying) got ganked at least 5 times from the same person. and she is still camping.

I've also tamed Aotona, Loque, Gondria, and Arcturis within 30 minutes of each other, and then turned around and killed the giant in Grizzly Hills whose name escapes me, too. I don't see how that disproves anything? It's been researched out the butt. One fellow came by one night asking for Skoll and he didn't believe me when I gave that advice, but he went out killing rares anyway and Skoll popped shortly after. Believe what you will, though, I suppose.

It may have been researched "out the butt", but you have to remember that people generally only say something when it "works". That's why we have things like the Magic Luck threads, which I am known to abuse just as much as anyone else.

The problem is that many, many people on these forums have said that it hasn't worked for them. There has been substantial proof that it isn't true and only circumstantial evidence that it does. As you said, believe what you will. But the fact of the matter is quite simple: it is nothing but superstition. Like any other superstition, it has an annoying habit of ignoring those who say it isn't true and proving proof that it doesn't work while the few who claim it worked for them are listened to and quoted repeatedly. It simply isn't true.

I'm not saying that you aren't telling the truth. I'm saying that any evidence you have is simply circumstance. Until someone gets into the programing and can prove that it does, without a doubt, work, it's not true. Until the day that happens, no matter how many people claim it works for them, it's simply superstition. And I wouldn't trust any GMs who say it works, either. They have a strange habit of being proven wrong on things like this.(;

I've found Skoll twice >_> Once for meh, the other for a guildie. And the camp for TLPD is horrid on my realm. The fact that pvp realm+the majority of the horde will gank you well you're taming something=A really bad place for Skoll hunters and and TLPD hunters >.<

They've proven it does work. Just sayin. I've also done their method and it worked for me...had Vyragosa spawn practically on the hour a few times.

"If you want to speed up spawn times you absolutely have to have a friend / multiple friends out killing every single rare they can find in Northrend. Yes, they are definitely connected. We did the research and it was absolutely conclusive that keeping the rares killed in Northrend caused the spawns of Vyra/TLPD to happen literally twice as fast. The spawn times went from 14-20 hours in betwen to 6-11. So that's an average of 8-10 hours into a live spawn window dropped down to 0-5 hours after. And this was before cataclysm. Now it's a higher spawn rate. Thus, where people before were seeing 1-3 spawns a day, people now are seeing 3-5. Granted, the higher numbers are on servers where the rares are being killed quickly." Actually, they don't say how they proved it. All they say is that they "did" and we're just expected to believe them. Sorry, but this doesn't really constitute as proof. Again, get me the string of coding in the programming that makes this happen and I'll believe it.

On topic: 12 hours. Still nothing, not even BBB. This is the most frustrating camp I've ever had. At least with Arcturis I could draw while I camped.

Actually, I heard elsewhere that regardless of how much "proof" was found, that theory was debunked.

I believed it for a long time myself, since all that effort had been put in, but the debunking source was more reliable.
