Last Stable Slot Blues...

Alrighty, so here's how it goes, dears.

Five stable slots. Five pets. How hard can it be? Haha, you all know how it goes...

Four of my five stable slots are well and always taken up. Charlie, Kegan, Tesla, and Jerkface are static and here to stay. My last slot, though... For the longest time it was my MC corehound, Drooly, but after never ever using him, I decided it was best to let him be.

Since then, that slot has been a revolving door of beasties. Gondria, wolves, devilsaurs, sportbats, you name it, I've tried it. Right now it's taken up by a ghost worm, but I know it isn't a forever-pet.

I like the idea of a full stable, but... Surely I'm not the only one with commitment issues here... Anyone have any advice? Willing to commiserate with me, at least?

I only have three pets I wouldn't ever give up... Lupin, my diseased Wolf, Ictus, my Black Devilsaur, and Echidna, my Jormungar... My cat, Montie (blue Tiger), While I wouldn't give her up for most pets, I'd give her up for Loque, or Gondria, and just rename them Montie, after my Kitty that ran away two years ago. And My Humar, renamed Guenhwyvar, who I've been thinking of replacing with a Chimaera, moth, raptor, or wasp...

My advice is to leave it open for experimentation. The only thing worse than the last-slot blues is the no-slot blues, and we may well see new pets in Cataclysm that you just *have* to have.

Mania speaks wisely. With a new expansion up and coming, you'll never know what will pop up. A new spirit beast? New skins? New models? A completely new family? If you've got four pets that you have decided you won't give up, it is a good idea to keep a slot open for just-in-case reasons.
And we all know how often those reasons come up.

Yup, I am honestly jealous of your position.

Right now my stables are full, and I'm still not satisfied. There's so many more that I want, and I keep changing my mind and having to sacrifice one pet for another. Luckily I'm pretty sure we're getting more stable slots in Cataclysm, but regardless I think I'm pretty much SOL for that expansion. xD

It's like Mania says. last-slot is better than no-slot, I guess, and I know that as soon as I find one I'll want something else D: I hold onto pets forever, then I can't commit! haha, ah well.

To be honest, though, I had forgotten the notion that we might get more space in the stable -- or at least non-stable storage space. Given that, finding a fifth forever pet right now is probably a lot less risky that it would be otherwise ... probably.

Ditto... I have Gondria, Skoll, Loque, the white lion from winterspring (I never remember it's name) and a 5th slot I play Russian Roulette with. Up until the other day it was my white Devilsaur. I decided to give it up and get my Owl back I had freed when I found Skoll. But... I think my Owl wants to evolve into Aotona, so I've been trying different things while I look for him. Today alone I've tamed a wasp, a sporebat, a turtle, a gorilla, an emerald skytalon, an epislon dragon hawk, and finaly a blue condor. I have no idea what I'll stick with. Maybe I'll go get my Kurken back. I really need to find an animal I LOVE that works with my MM spec. The lion doesn't do it for me, but it's a one time only tame so I don't want to let it go.

This is very nearly off-topic, but one of the frustrations I have with my stable is that there are plenty of pets I'd love to have that ... err ... Mania doesn't want.

Like the Kurken. Mania the player adores the Kurken; Mania the character thinks he looks silly. I'd be really tempted to swap out, say, my ghost saber for the Kurken, but she puts her foot down.

I made the mistake of boxing both my 80's stables...and I can tell you, it's not easy when all of them have a seperate back history that me, the idiot behind them, wrote for them */SIGH* But I'm not complaining!...much. *sighs s'more* Well, maybe a little...

Laz's heart yearns for Vermithrax (King Krush), whilst Kas's longs for Maugrim (Skoll)...but without slots, it's become more of a 'let's see if we can find them out in the wild first...then make a choice...' and it never ends well. I never have the spine to look at my pets and go "right, you're outta here!". I always end up making another hunter alt to "satisfy" the need for pets my two 80's don't have.

I wish I had a slot left! I envy you totally!
But with that said, I'd probably be in the same boat as you are now with one slot empty. I'd be standing there, surrounded by my current four pets, staring at that empty spot and thinking "Now what can I fill this with and not have everyone else in my stables go up in arms about?"

Me being a roleplayer, a writer and an artist, and having to simply look at a pet and go "right, you have such and such personality, and you're a pain in the ass to this guy..." is probably one of my flaws. All I have to do when I'm picking new tames for my other hunter alts is LOOK at a damned beast...and suddenly I have their life's story. It's a blessing only sometimes on the rare occasion I get completely stumped with a hunter alt, and a curse every other time >_>;

*mutters something about the new Belf Hunter she started on Nessingwary for the Petopians Guild (level 8) and how she's already mapped out his five pets too, all Alliance Territory tames - Moonstalker, Olm The Wise, Bellygrub, Sewer Beast & Mist Howler...*

I guess I'm lucky then, I have a stable slot left open too. ^-^ I have my faithful Wind Serpent, whom I will never abandon; Loque, who I never want to abandon; the Wolf that took the place of my Worgen and whose backstory I've grown to love so much that I don't want to abandon him; my Warpstalker, who I love to pieces, but would be willing to temporarily part with if I needed to, because he's one of the common skins; and my last slot. So, If it comes down too it, I actually have two slots to play with. Recently, I've being thinking of trying out either a Ravager, Spider, or Nuramoc.

I understand that, too! There's several that I'd like to have, but Dara won't have anything to do with them... so I have like four hunters at various levels >.> Which of course each have their own ideas when it comes down to it XP

That actually used to be poor Jerk's lot in life; the pet I loved but could part ways with then pick up again. And again. And again. He's gone from 75-80 more times than I'd like, and truth be told if he needed to be gone I'd likely do it again, knowing he'd be back and waiting.

Maybe it's just because they both look amazing and are very convenient? Ah Warpstalkers, we love to have you, and let you go.

Perhaps we didn't let them go, they just go on a warpy-walk and we lose track of them for a while! Silly things.

Terminus got lost once! When I found him again, he'd managed to dye himself permanently white. Silly Devilsaur.

AH, I like that idea! They wander off and get lost between their warps! Or maybe, they're playing hide and seek and we just don't know it!

Same for me. On my level 68 she's filled to capacity. But there is one animal in there that I would be willing to let go and that is my Warpstalker. The reason is it's not like it was hard to get him and he's rare. I love him but will be an easy pick up if I chose to let him go. In the grand scheme the same can be said for Snort (the heckler) because 99.9% of the time he's there. But Snort I'm VERY attached to and have had him forever. The other pets are rares and were very difficult to come by. Which in a way really sucks for me since I am not big enough to tame a spirit beast or something like that yet from the Northrend.

Leave the slot open. Because it's much worse (as already stated) to have five pets you're attached to and potentially new pets coming out.

I agree. Don't be in a rush. I had your problem. Now, I have a no-slot problem. While I"m completely enraptured with that glamorous ice serpent I found, I kinda wish now I had never seen her. Eventually, I'll find Loque and someone will have to go.

I do hope the next expansion they add another stable slot
My last slot is currently full but in flux with a few other pets as I get bored now and again.
I have some slots that I can't abandon. Dusana, ghost kitty and Slimer my slime 'croc', and since I raid I have Fangoria my riding wolf from ramps.
My other 2 pets are my white Devilsaur, Omnom and my zuldrak raptor also named OmNom. Raptor is is my pet I'd loose first for one of those must have pets to try out. I too have tried out several pets, wasps, sporebats, warp stalkers, bears, and others.

Wasp wasn't too long lived. I had one of the light blue/red wasps from the basin before they 'fixed' their size. For giggles I brought him into naxx and I swapped to BM on one of the bosses... I wished I recorded what happened that day on vent, needless to say we wiped as most people were distracted by the big nasty wasp that blotted out the boss.. ah fun times...

I always hate giving up a pet but I do hope we do see some new stuff in the new expansion.
