New wolf skins?

Unread post by azurelith »

I wasnt sure if this should go under pet discussions or patch 4.3 but i was looking through my Wow model viewer and saw these wolf skins that i have never noticed before. Im not sure if they are new or not. A few of these were listed as dire wolf so they may be for the direwolf model instead.

I could not get the fur extensions to display the correct color so i hid them.

Direwolf
direwolfbodywhite
direwolfskin
direwolfskindark
direwolfskinfire

Wolf
wolfskindark
wolfskinlight
wolfskinmedium
wolfskinred

Ive seen dire wolf listed in those models but i dont recall them being as refined as that (they used to have fur that stuck out really far-- its where the refined in-game models scruffy fur is but in the WMV for the odd colors it still retains the untouched collar of fur that reminds me of triceratops' lol)

the colors do look a wee bit familiar but im hardly in the WMV so i could be thinking of other models too, id kill for a red wolf using that model (the refined versions of course ;D)

We've known about these for some time, but not the model they're intended for. Despite being lumped in the old wolf model their style (eyes, teeth, etc.) matches the skins of NO known wolf model (despite naming conventions that might suggest otherwise.) In fact the closest I can find (but not exact) is the fox skin. I once asked Noah if he could tell me what they're for but he declined to comment on the matter ;)

To me it looks like they're either unfinished experiments/tests or skins for a model we're yet to see. I had hoped to add them to the untameable skins list but hoped for more info first.

P.S. I think there may be more than you listed, such as butterscotch. But right now I'm on the opposite side of the world to my computer and can't check ;)

Ugh I would kill for any of those "dire wolf" colours. They're beautiful and I need a wolf on Aela that would match. The "dark" one would go brilliantly!(:

Ooh, I hope Blizz adds these! Possibly new mobs, or (just a guess) new wolf models? I'll tame one if they look like THAT!

I really like the faces on those so much more than the coyote ones we have right now. Granted, the coyote ones were great when I first started playing the game about six and a half years ago. :P

what do you mean the "fur extensions" dident show properly?
are these just as fluffy as the ingame wolves? if so i would love to see these in game aswell.
personally im not in favor of the new " should have been fluffy but instead jacks hairgell all over so no fluff shows" pets we got with cata(foxes and sambas)

anyway. id love for these new colors on the old wolves.

While this feature of the Grimtotem Spirit Guide wasn't exactly intended... - it will still be possible in future for everyone who wishes to tame this NPC to do so

These new wolf/direwolf skins do not have an alpha skin. Wolf/direwolf models are made of two skins, a normal one which covers the body and an alpha skin that displays the "fur extensions" as you put it, as well as the teeth.

I put the normal skin on the alpha skin part and it looks like this.

These skins look much better on direwolf models due to the eye look. Normal wolves have solid colored, larger eyes.

Here is the same skin without the unfinished alpha skin displayed for dire wolf model.

EDIT: For fox model as well. I also just noticed all fox skins have bugged black teeth. CANNOT UNSEE NOW! D=

EDIT2: These are worgskinmedium not wolfskinmedium. File name fail.

^i really like that model without the fur o_o it looks a thousand times better then the ones we have in-game, just give it a bit of fur, not as much as the in-game ones have, and add in the leg fur thats at the back of each leg and it'll look amaaaaaaazing

Those are neat, though I am wanting a new wolf model badly. Weve got new cat model/skins (like Sambas and Skarr), I want this wolf to become a tameable mob (minus the armor from the mount)

While they would have to fill in the bits of body that are missing once the armour is gone (there's nothing underneath) these would look very cool and I know many people would want them :). Be very nice to Noah and who knows what may appear in the future? ;)

Myself, while I'd love to see a wild, tameable version of this model, I'd be even more excited if they had unarmoured versions of hawkstriders and riding raptors. Noah has declined to comment on my pestering, however, perhaps due to being occupied with stupid stuff like patches and dungeons. ;)

New, more streamlined wolf models would be SICK. I to would love to see something updated and less blocky looking like Sambas is. Skarr is a badass looking cat but still has the old design with sharp edges.

But yeah. New wolfy models would be the best. :D Please Noah????? Pretty please. *does cute girl eyes batting eyelashes*

I love my old cliff jumper, but what the heck is up with the jaggy fur he has? He used to not be like that...

I personally would love the new wolf mount for a pet, if it didn't have the "zomg I can't eat cause my fangs are too big!" teeth.

And of the OP's pics, I would LOVE a white and black one!~ XD

Amy idea of how these guys run? One reason I love the original wolf / coyote model so much is that it moves in such a beautiful and fluid way (or maybe it's because my main is an enh shammy ;) ). To me the worg models seem to run with a limp.

*nod* Agreed, I've never quite been able to get past the worg run. I hate that back leg. >< The coyote animation looks so lovely, I wish they'd use it on more wolves in the future.
