Dammit! I had this beautiful reply all posted up. I dragged myself out of hiding once more to reply. And then I got rid of it.
Ah well. I'll be good. (I did end up reporting the thread though. *shrug*)

Re: [Opposite Faction] can't have that pet!
Yeah, I saved the snail into my gif folder.(:
On-topic, though: I think that a lot of people do it because someone did it to them first. At least, that's what I've seen. They get upset that someone took their tame out form under them, so they do it to other people. People constantly sending out the myth that GMs do nothing doesn't help, either.
I'll admit, I'm not happy with the ticket I sent in. But I got a crappy GM. It felt like he only read the first line or so of my ticket and based his reply on that. Let me tell you: most GMs are not like that. There are good GMs and bad GMs. You've just got to keep at it until you get a good one.
If everyone on these forums stopped killing pets and stopped killing people taming pets, it would certainly make a difference. Now, most of us do not do that, I know. For those of you who do, most of whom I am sure feel bad about it afterward, go out and do a nice deed today. Help the opposite faction get a pet instead of keeping them from getting one. I'll bet you anything that, all so slowly, people will take up your good example. People will be more likely to report the griefers (and, on top of that, you won't get reported yourself!), people will be more likely to help others. Slowly, people will realize what they are doing is wrong, they will remember that there are real people and not just pixels behing each character and avatar, and they will remorse.
And then they can heal their hearts from all those Horcruxes they made.(;
But seriously. Just try it.

Ohyes, that would make sense, the person in my guild that I mentioned earlier said that she now kills alliance tames because an alliance stole Magria from her.
I agree, though, go out and do a good deed instead of making someone feel bad. ^_^
On the tuesday reset I saw that both Deth and Solix were up, and all the 85 hunters I had whispered weren't interested in taming/couldnt get into the front, and the 15 minute timer started for the server shut down--I spotted a human hunter, and with /beckon I managed to lead him over to Deth and through emotes I tried my best to explain the encounter to him. (Backing up, laying down traps, showed the sacrifice method when it was pulled) It was a smooth tame and afterwards I /pointed at Solix and we got that for him too. ^_^
It feels nice to do good things for others, try it.

Re: [Opposite Faction] can't have that pet!
I don't get it. So it's a different kind of dude on a pretendy fun time game. If they got there first, leave them be. If someone you dislike gets to a counter/vendor first, you sure as hell don't tackle them going "JERKS CAN'T HAVE THAT CANDY BAR IF I CAN'T." Or even more accurately, if someone likes a sports team that's a rival of yours, you wouldn't do that!
So you killed their pet For the Horde/Alliance/whatever. And now you have ruined someone's day, pissed off your competition and odds are, that faction's members are going to know. I sure as hell tell people if someone griefs me so they know to watch out for someone*.
PvP is one thing. Griefing is another. And the next idiot who goes 'World of WARcraft' while playing on a PvE server is going to get a keyboard lobbed at their foreheads.
That said, there is such a thing as getting too emotionally invested - but if I have a hobby to vent stress or get away, well, y'know. I think most of us would politely nudge someone to get help if we genuinely felt they were unwell. I have every right to get annoyed if someone wastes hours of my time by killing my tame.
*That said, I feel bad when Horde get blamed unfairly. On one Deth tame, some stupid human hunter with a habit of killing other people's rares kited Deth to the wardens and - yeah. Everyone spat on the Horde. I talked to him and he genuinely thought people were killing it and wanted to help. The human hunter never got the blame he deserved.
Edit: And yes, I totally stole that snail gif. >_>

Re: [Opposite Faction] can't have that pet!
I think in the end, what this argument all boils down to is how people want YOU to see the game. Not how THEY see the game, but YOU. Seriously... I'm noticing this more and more, and it's gotten worse since the patch dropped.
Here's the thing-- if you play on a PVP server and LIKE playing on a PVP server to the point where you feel that the game SHOULD have a way where your amazing and wonderful faction is the "good guy" and thus the bad other faction is there only to kill, then you will think that ganking, only helping your faction find and tame pets, only aiding your faction no matter what -- up to and including griefing the other faction because, well, this is a game about WAR (ignoring the fact that you are getting quests from druids of BOTH factions and as such, it stands to reason that being neutral IS an option to the WoW Devs) is OK.
If you tend to NOT enjoy PVP, and figure that while YES, pets are just silly pixels but behaving with manners and following the golden rule, even if the people promoting the game dared use the word WAR in the game title, well, then, you'll think the whole faction thing is stupid and when that opposite faction person kills the pet you have sat for hours and hours to tame you ARE upset.
The problem is when someone insists on forcing THEIR viewpoint on YOU. When someone NOT on a PVP realm decides that well, they are an Orc and despite the fact they already tamed that pet, and that no one of their faction seems to want the pet despite them asking around... why, they're gonna kill that there pet so the Night elf (using both races for illustrative purposes only) who DOES want it cannot have it.
Why is is wrong? Well, the one who killed the pet has a point-- they payed their darn 15 bucks too, and HEY I DIDN'T SEE YOUR NAME ON THE PET... but the truth of the matter is that it is wrong because you wouldn't want it done to you. End of story.
You like playing at a war? Wonderful, lovely, fine. Why do I have to want to do the same thing? What did you get out of taking that pet from the hunter from the other faction, really now? See, because, you're right-- the pet WILL spawn again. Eventually, if they really want it, they'll get it, despite the fact you killed it for no reason other than you want everyone to play YOUR way.
I just don't get, nor will I ever get, what griefers get from doing this on PVE or RP servers. Hooray, you ruined someone's minute, hour, or day. Those fifteen dollars a month sure got you so much fun. I don't want to argue it-- I get it; you have decided this is *the* way to play... thanks for deciding it for me too.

I also hate that there's often nothing I can do to stop someone before the pet is dead. :/ I know rares should be challenging but as I've said: I hate that 'challenge' is 'pray that that guy over there doesn't waltz over and punch your cat in the face'.

There is no one person to witch to say what can be killed and what can be tamed the game is played by people with all different opinions each person plays the game in his or her own way and to say the way that play is stupid or Idiotic and getting upset over an outcome in a game is a childish way to look at the game but again that's only an opinion of some one that plays the game that i see fit to play it. say what you want blizzard welcomes this kind of completion, If they didn't they would make these NPCs drop absolutely nothing and give you a debuff for killing, again that wouldn't stop the problem but it would greatly reduce it

Re: [Opposite Faction] can't have that pet!
(loose reply to Arisa) Some PvP servers are pretty carebear and don't mind living and let living.
I do agree that PvP servers are generally going to condone behavior that supports the war between the factions. I disagree that RP servers wouldn't being justified condoning this as well, though. That's being "in character."
Overall, I do agree that none of us want anyone else telling us how to play, regardless of which side of this issue we're on. This thread started out as a discussion of why this behavior happens and devolved into a debate about people telling others how to play. That too is unfortunately human nature.

Re: [Opposite Faction] can't have that pet!
I don't honestly think 'don't be a jerk' is telling someone how to play. Killing a hunter before or after the tame? It happens. That's a pvp server.
I suspect the 'why' is they don't see characters as having someone behind them. Or they might enjoy frustrating or causing someone pain. There's always spite too.

Re: [Opposite Faction] can't have that pet!
Blizzard has made it obvious they dont want you killing the rarespawns by dropping a guilt-infused item thats to make people with a heart that isnt as cold as ice feel bad. Honestly, i play on a RP server because i like RP and the people are nice. I dont play on a PvP server because i dont want to get griefed and ganked. I dont play World of WARcraft, i play World of Warcraft. If it was named World of Cuddlecraft i would still play it because its just a title.
If i want to ruin someones day and expect someone at any minute to ruin mine, i would roll on a PvP server, grind really hard, and pwn lowbies faces. That is not me however. Sometimes i wish the game was called World of Cuddlecraft just to deter people from coming up with that rediculious excuse. If i want to activley participate in a war on the game then i'll join a PvP server since thats what its supposed to feel like.
Blizzard made 3 different types of servers for 3 different type of people. The people who want real action against sentient beings (PvP), people who want to enjoy the game for the game and want to pursue the content and not the social aspect (Normal), and the people who want to live out a fantasy life without having to spend ungodly amounts of money for a cosplay(s) (RP).
Its a war for NPC's, it doesnt HAVE to be a war for players, i am one who is not for war so i do not engage in war-like activities just so i can enjoy killing people (anytime i PvP its because i want honor for armor or mounts, mostly for RP reasons since i cant PvP very well).

if that where true then why make the item worth 25g? that's a couple repair bills for someone

Uh...repair bills cost most than 25g...even for cloth wearers. Mine are always 50g+.Dr. Rockso wrote:Xakaal wrote:Blizzard has made it obvious they dont want you killing the rarespawns by dropping a guilt-infused item thats to make people with a heart that isnt as cold as ice feel bad. 25g is not worth repair bills or a destroyed reputation and a spot on wowjackass.com.

I miss the days when my repair bills were that cheap. That said, telling someone how to play is entirely different from 'dude, don't be a jerk'.

hmm that's weird cause im a mail wearer and one death doesn't = 25 g for me and as far as reputation goes on a server for killing a rare spawn that an opposing faction wanted im glad im on one of the many servers that doesn't really care about the other factions pets, alot of people realize its nothing to get upset about and move on

Dont ask me why its 25g, i didnt give them the tear, but i can tell you that you'll make more gold doing something productive then trying to kill a rarespawn, especially if its one of the Challenge tames. Plus you'll make someone very happy if a kind hearted person comes by and tips a hunter(s) off that the beast is up. Im sure you've gotten mad atleast a few times when you lose a roll to someone, think of it like that.
Scenario for example: Your there looting a boss in a group and someone who uses the same stat items rolls need on the item that you really want to. The item is something that is of 'ok' quality to them, a minor upgrade but to you its a OMFG-ITS-AN-AMAZING-UPGRADE!! to a piece of armor you have thats like oh, about 15 levels lower then your current level and your dps/taking/healing would improve immensely, perhaps enough to start content you are dying to do. Guess what, the other person just won the roll. How do you feel? Think of this scenario as a hunter, a griefer, and a pet. Pet= item, You= hunter, Other guy= griefer.
Yes, you can do the dungeon over and over and over until you get the item. Do you want to do it until it finally drops and you win, even if it costs you a couple days of straight dungeoning (has happened before where one item refuses to drop for what feels like forever)? No you dont. You want the item now and the other person didnt give a rats-behind about your loss.
Edit: Cant stay and chat any longer im afraid hehe, gonna go see Rise of the Planet of the Apes

There are probably a few thousand people per server, i dont think 'a lot' of people covers most of the hunter population.Dr. Rockso wrote:hmm that's weird cause im a mail wearer and one death doesn't = 25 g for me and as far as reputation goes on a server for killing a rare spawn that an opposing faction wanted im glad im on one of the many servers that doesn't really care about the other factions pets, alot of people realize its nothing to get upset about and move on

Nope i dont get upset over items even if its ninjed the maddest i have ever gotten at this game truth be told is one time the ancient bone bow was given to a warrior when it was an upgrade for me i whispered him telling him you jack ass and that was the end of it. I have actually had many more things ninjed from me and rare spawn killed in front of me but no seriously i dont get mad at this game i see it as well my item will drop again or i will find a better item and with rare spawns i know that it will spawn again il get it next time, Its just a game no need to get mad at it. and as far as making more gold farming yes but as your farming one of these rare spawns pops up aside from Kirix and deth ( witch actually a warlock could probably do with no problem ) its an ez 25 g for someone who is farming or questing in that area who has no interest in the petXakaal wrote:Dont ask me why its 25g, i didnt give them the tear, but i can tell you that you'll make more gold doing something productive then trying to kill a rarespawn, especially if its one of the Challenge tames. Do you want to do it until it finally drops and you win, even if it costs you a couple days of straight dungeoning (has happened before where one item refuses to drop for what feels like forever)? No you dont. You want the item now and the other person didnt give a rats-behind about your loss.

Re: [Opposite Faction] can't have that pet!
First of all let me say the snail gif is now part of my collection.
I think what you're missing Dr. Rockso is just because you haven't seen or been apart of someone getting upset with you in game for something doesn't mean it doesn't happen. It appears you may be oblivious to the fact that each person on the other side of that screen is HUMAN just like you. They may have stronger feelings, or actually feelings at all, in losing something they've worked to try and get. If someone is upset about something, doesn't it or whatever and they come here to talk of it that doesn't mean you should come along and fight pick over the issue especially when you have zero part in the over all issue. Just because you seem to have a bit of a heartless play style and choose to voice your opinion on it doesn't make it right for you to post in the thread voicing against someone else saying they shouldn't feel that way.
I would love to see you or another griefer be stripped of an achievement, honor points, gold, valor points or something along those lines for each time a tame is stolen. Maybe when you (not YOU directly) have something to lose it will truly stop happening and you will care and feel what others have felt when having something taken out from under them. Wrong is wrong regardless of if there is a gold /loot payoff or not.
And if my memory serves me correctly, this isn't the first time Dr. Rockso has attempted or has picked a bicker with other forum members.
