Proper etiquette

So what is proper etiquette when cmaping a pet, I have camped the spirit bear for weeks, and hunter comes in as it pops and tries to tame.

So What do you do??

Depends on the person you are. If your nice, let them get it and get the next spawn. Or message them, explain the situation and see if they are nice as well.

If you are an @#$% then kill him, interrupt him, call guildies to help if needed. If same faction, I would even consider killing the bear so they wouldn't get it. Just depends on my mood.

Personally, I'd probably just let them have it and take the next spawn. I'm the type of person that avoids confrontation.

You have no idea how long they have been camping themselves. Even if you have been camping for weeks-you are not sitting there 24-7, they might be there camping when you are gone.

I usually try to talk it out. Ask how long they have been camping and if they have been longer then you let them have it first. Or I promise to let them know if it spawns while they are gone and ask them to return the favor so that we both know the last spawn time. Of course, that is when we are both camping at the same time.

If it is right at the moment, I'll try to tame, unless they tag it first. Might /beg them to stop or get irritated, but I won't kill it out from under them-because that just encourages them to stay around because they still need to tame the creature and because they are now pissed off at you for killing it, so they might do the same to you if you start to tame before them.

Pets that have a single spawn point are tricky and you really just have to work things out. If multiple people are camping a rare with multiple spawns, I just move on to another spawn point and stand my ground if the other spawn points are taken.

If it's one of the new "challenge" rares, wait. Because chances are they won't last long or you can talk it out.

If it's an older rare, I would probably be so pissed off that I'd kill it. Then again, when I camp, I go hardcore and there's rarely a period of an hour or two that I'm not around, so I'm pretty aware of who's around and who's wanting what.

There is no "proper" etiquette for dealing with assholes.

I kill the pet. I've been there for a week, 18 hours a day, you are not getting my pet. If I have to camp again, I will not let you be rewarded with the pet a bashed my teeth in for.

I opt not to be an ass about it and just let them take the pet. It'll respawn later, and I can log the time and go do something else until then. It's just a game, and I'd rather make someone else happy and clear out competition for the pet I want than deny us both our goals. I can't see why you would want pissed off competition in the first place, which is the only thing killing the pet would do.

It ... depends. I'm generally too much of a pushover to actually kill it. :/ I've been tempted but.

I'd never kill it, despite being annoyed. Just because someone else treats me like scum does not mean I need to stoop to their level. I wish you were on the servers I play on, just today I've tried to rehome Arcturis for the fourth and fifth time (two different servers), and absolutely nobody was interested. :( I left him to wander alone in both cases, and I hope someone gives him a nice home. I won't think about the other option.

What Shade said is kinda how I think. You never know how long someone has waited for a rare, even if they haven't been camping it for 15 hours straight. For example I didn't see Loque for 5 months, but I can assure you I didn't spend all 5 of those months sitting at my computer desk flying in circles (I did MANY laps but wouldn't spend more than 2 hours at a time cause I would lose my mind). When I tamed him no one was around, but had there been someone there, I would have still tried considering how long it had been since I started looking for him, I don't always have time to sit for hours and hours in a row trying to camp a rare. And with with my spirit bear, I knew there were plenty of other hunters out there at the time looking for him, I got lucky again and no one was around when he spawned, but had someone got there first I have to remember that they may have been looking longer than myself, the way I had looked for Loque. You just never know how much time someone else has spent. And it could very well be that they never spent anytime looking for it and just tamed on the spot, but thats no reason to stress... there will be another.

I know challenge tames have been causing lots of drama, I just wish people would remember to be decent and respectful enough to not interrupt/ruin a tame if they didn't get to it first.

Random French! I put it into google translate and got:

"I tend to ask them to leave and if they do not want, I put up with it. If a major earthquake I usually end up giving them to tame or kill, just so I could be left alone in the peace camp in the new. I would never kill someone tame, however they were rude to me. The second, they have the label and start taming, it is theirs. I would never steal a tame, either. If someone does all the work on one of the tame challenge, as is their right to tame the animal, not mine.

But it all depends on what kind of person you are."

Not sure about the earthquake there, but I do agree with the last point there.

Random french is what happens when Aela's not feeling well.): And I think that was the gist of it. I can't recall and google translate sucks butt so what I wrote isn't really even correct.

This post is not in french even though I still feel like butt because screw it.

I never camp, just go do things like yo always do and you'll get it when you lest expect it. I wanted my ank for so long and every time I tried to camp EVERYTHING went wrong. Then I stopped and did my dailies again and one day she was there waiting for me. I did that when I wanted my spirit bear back in wotlk, Qinni stopped at 74 to get it and started taking weeks to almost a month.

So I made a deal and just went ahead and level in grizzly hills with my bf. Next you you know he wakes me up days later after I dinged 75 and tells me its up! (he was on his pally tanking it while i logged on)

Just forget about it for a while and you'll see. This is someone with a stable nothing but rares and all caught in the same way. I never camped for any, they came home when they wanted too.

I very VERY rarely camp but when I do I don't even let alliance get any where near the spawn points to begin with. If its another horde I spam arcane shot with grea gusto in hopes of taming it. If I don't tag it at least I know the timer for it.

the latter has never happened but when slobbering over skoll I chased some leve 80 ne hunter ( I was 85) around storm peaks who was hovering around his spawn points to keep him away.

Here's my etiquette:

If I am sitting and someone else shows up AFTER I am already there: It's mine.
If I log in, and someone is there before me: It 's theirs.
If I log in, and begin taming: It is mine.
If I log in, begin taming, and die: It is mine unless I quit. (Think crane games: You're going for something, fail, and someone boots you to the side, wins it, and takes it, even knowing you were there first.)
If I am taming and some numb-nuts tries to take it from me: It is either dead or mine. I do NOT let people take it from me, even if it removes competition. I was there first.
If I log in and someone else is already taming it: I cheer them on and go about my day.

I am sticking by this mentality, especially the one with me dying. I lost Karkin because of this the first time I saw it spawn, and I still hope that jerk got perma banned for his rude theft, especially after agreeing to help me tame it.

Here's mine....(edited from kikanu's)

If I am sitting and someone else shows up AFTER I am already there: It's mine.
If I log in, and someone is there before me: It's theirs.
If I log in, and begin taming: It is mine.
If I log in, begin taming, and die: It's their turn to try. Taking turns. I fucked up. They deserve a chance to try.
If I am taming and some numb-nuts tries to take it from me: I'll fight for it. I was there first.
If I log in and someone else is already taming it: I cheer them on and go about my day.

No its it not yours cause you died and lost your chance so it is someone else turn. Seems like your harassing hunters just cause you screwed up and lost your chance.

Actually, this looks like a good format:

If I am sitting and someone else shows up AFTER I am already there: It should be mine, but I know they are entitled to tame it as much as I, even if they have only done for for 15 minutes and I have sat there for days.
If I log in, and someone is there before me: It's theirs.
If I log in, and begin taming: It is mine.
If I log in, begin taming, and die: It's their turn to try.
If I am taming and some numb-nuts tries to take it from me: I won't kill the rare. But I will have words with the wrong-doer and possibly consider reporting them if they are rude enough.
If I log in and someone else is already taming it: I cheer them on, feel glad that someone gave the pet a good home, and sigh with relief that I have a timer to go on.

Yeah let's all do this. Fun stuff.

If I am sitting and someone else shows up AFTER I am already there: I'm likely to pull out and let you have the spot to yourself. Good luck!
If I log in, and someone is there before me: It's yours. Grats!
If I log in, and begin taming: Realistically it's not mine until the name turns blue, but it should be mine.
If I log in, begin taming, and die: It's fair game for everyone else, but if I'm alone I'll try again. No skin off my nose if you get to it before I do.
If I am taming and someone tries to take it from me: Let you have it. Note the time, toss you a halfhearted /congrats and get on with my life. Less competition.
If I log in and someone else is already taming it: Note the time, toss you a /cheer and go take a nap.

I'm not very confrontational. I don't have the patience for camping, so someone else showing up is just an excuse for me to get out of that hellhole of monotony.
