Taming tricks for Kirix and Skitterflame

Ps. I searched if anyone had covered this before already but couldn't find it. Apologies if the thread exists, but I thought I'd just say my methods that I tried several times and they always work.

Kirix: I tried this by myself, and also got Kirix for a friend and it worked first try. I was out of potions of speed, so the only haste comes from my trusty corehound. So, Kirix is up, and first thing to remember is getting aspect of the wild up. Then , I run up the hill on the west side of the area where Kirix spawns, and jump on the rock that's west. Not a floating rock, just a squarish rock on the ground. (Will either screenshot it or take a video next time). I use the corehound's heroism, dismiss it, and press my deterrence/tame macro. Kirix doesn't attack, and I hardly lose any health waiting for the tame bar to complete.

Skitterflame: You don't need any traps at all. Stand in front of her, on the ledge above her, just cast scare beast and tame away. No heroism needed, no traps, works like a charm. It's probably a bug that gets fixed I imagine. Scare beast shouldn't technically override the "too hot to tame" debuff, but as of last night, it still works.

Wow, great point made on Skitterflame. I'd tamed him previously but let him go for more room. He just spawned on my server (2:30PM Boulderfist US), so I figured I'd give the Scare Beast tactic a go. It totally worked...and of course didn't even think to take a screenshot until the tame went off. >.< The first half of tame went well, though he feared out of range. All I had to do was head back in range to hit Tame Beast again, and it went off without a hitch. No haste pots or traps, precisely as Samskeyti wrote. Thanks for sharing!

Hmm well I only knew about the trap method until a day last week when she was up and a friend wanted to tame her. I was busy whispering the trap method and suddenly he replies, I just used scare beast, no traps and it worked. I didn't believe him, but then he was right. I don't think anything bad will happen when you do this method! It will get fixed in a patch/hotfix and that's it. And I've been telling people to try it when I see her and rehome her. But do whatever you feel comfortable with, I don't want to start a big abuse discussion here, just give my five cents for those that just want to tame rare spiders!

I'd just be careful using bugs. It'd get awkward if they hotfixed it silently and it's never entirely wise to rely on them.

I must say.. I hate the rock strat. It gets rid of all the fun of actually attempting to tame kirix, all it is haste haste haste and hit detterence and tame... not really challenge just gotta hope you have enough haste while the actual intended strat if you know how to do it, hit them at the correct time you feel like you actually acomplished something. I dont know how many people said that they would try the actual intended strat next time.. meaning they would try to tame a second kirix.

That's ok Sasrei, I guess there's different methods and everyone does like they enjoy it best. I actually never got the jump/deterrence working, but I've had my fair share of repair bills, and I have my tames so I just enjoy rehoming them, and the people that do it the way they want don't rely on videos or help anyway, so I'm mainly catering for those that don't feel so confident, that need to tame fast because else the rare is killed/tamed by someone else, do't have time to camp for hours and are glad when they get the pet they wanted etc.. I'm currently staring at Deth for the past 30 minutes whispering around, so on my server there isn't a shortage of rares to be tamed!

Kirix can and will kill you if you don't have enough haste, just as surely as he will if you use disengage. Not everyone has a nice internet connection that lets them perfect their timing, for example. Or my friend who has a chronic condition that she requires painkillers for. Some people enjoy the challenge, some people just want the pet. I used the /ledge/ because it was all I knew and even with haste, Kirix blew me up. A lot.

And honestly, hitting the right buttons is pretty much all the challenges. I have a Kirix and I'm not going to take one away from someone else when I have one.

oh no I am not judging anyone I just.. really hate that strat mostly from in game experience where someone has been trying so long to tame kirix, and some random hunter pops in. Has no clue what the heck it is but just gets the wind buff, haste and tames away.. thats what bugs me. If you have crappy internet its alot harder and of course an illness but I guess I just think it sucks when that happens. The rock strat has more evades now to, on the ledge that hunter couldnt tame it but then again he never once used detterence.. why does everyone think all you need is a core hound and you can tame away..

I dont know just most of the time it ends up just being a glitch tame and the hunters actually trying the intended strat or any strat kinda feel a bit.. cheated.

But then again I feel everyone should try it atleast once, kirix is a ton of fun and what other time does a large spider get to punt you like a gnome?!

I don't really see how using scare beast is a bug... We've known that it works on Skitterflame since the PTR so my guess is that it is intended. I mean, unless you bug him into a spot where he doesn't move at all, if you can tame before he runs out of range then awesome. But then it takes away the fun of the challenge a bit I think. That's just how I see it though. ^^

I have tried Kirix with the wind buff, but he always evades at the last second no matter what I do. I do have him on the hunter I want him on, so it's ok though.
