Just popping on to share something--the game convention in Germany saw the release of tons of demo vids for Guild Wars 2, and among them you can find lots of videos of the pets. Here's some where you can see the wolves. I can see wolves that are black and that are white, not sure if you can pick what you can start with, but I think they look very good.

In this last one you can also see other wildlife of the Norn starting zone, like mammoths and strange rhino things (sort of like clefthoofs... hooves? hoof?).

When you make a new Ranger you get to choose between three different starter pets. For Norn the options are (White) Wolf, Bear and Cat. (Source: Gamestar August 09/2011)
