POSSIBLE Appearance Pet - testing mode

Unread post by Dialga »

Ever since we've been funning around with the fire pet, I've been going over other Beasts in my head that change appearance upon death. I thought of the Emerald Skytalons in the Emerald Dragonshire in Dragonblight - how they morph into bunnies, deer, skunks, and squirrels upon death.

I went out, and started messing with them 'Revive-Pet' style - to finish the tame as they died. So I would melee them down to around 2900 or so, Freeze Trap (to back up), Wyvern Sting, and wait until about the 2 second mark on my sleep part of the Sting to start the tame.

Most of them, I haven't been able to get more than the simple owl from or it dies or the tame finishes too quickly. But last night... I did the process, and it dinged a good second later as the body hit the ground - I thought it hadn't taken. A deer spawned, and I hit Revive Pet.

'Your pet is not dead.'

What??

I hit it a couple more time, get the same message. The deer phases out after a few seconds, as it normally does. I hit it again, it starts casting. I stare with WIDE EYES...

And then I DC. Come back, 'you have no pet to summon'.

After a good few minutes of chucking things at the wall, I attempted it 3 more times before bed, but to no avail. I can't promise anything, but if anyone wanted to take a shot at this if they're bored or curious, have at.

UPDATE

Managed a tame, got the 'Your Pet is not Dead' message again. This time, the cast bar is not going through to revive the pet at all, and it's been several minutes. Logged, got the same result as the DC. No pet to summon, nothing on the side. Hmmm...

Oooh, I might have to try this later when my taming buddy is around.. wondering if the cursed animals in winterspring would react the same way? The ones that are debuffed to be bunnies and other critters?

Completely unrelated, but Zuilu, your signature is so pretty! (:

Edit: OP: I know you're reluctant, but try relogging. A DC sometimes won't save recent changes; a log-out will.

Edit 2: I'm flying out to give this a shot, as well. Perhaps if the pet is dismissed, instead of allowing it to despawn, it won't, well... despawn.

Edit the Third: I just murdered a Skytalon to get a feel for what I was doing, and I think this is a no-go, mate. It spawns an entirely new mob, it looks like; the bird is dead and lootable, and a little skunk is wandering about atop it.

Thank you ^_^ Serenith did a wonderful job.

Since the birdy guys seem to spawn new mobs (?) rather than an appearance buff, I think I'll skip on that, but I'm curious about the winterspring guys now, I'm going to fly out there and see if its a perma-buff and how it reacts to combat.

Edit: D'oh  untameable. And for good reason!
