I just cleaned up my stable. After Cata came out I ended up getting every rare, and now I have, of all of the originals, Sambas, Karoma and Terrorpene. I'm actually considering releasing Terrorpene, as I have a white beetle now and I just love him to bits. Sambas I *would* release as I don't use him all that much, but I just adore his model.

So… I've released every color Madexx, Jadefang, Ghostcrawler, and most likely Terrorpene. If I missed naming one, that's how much I didn't bond with it. xD

I'm most likely going to release Ban'thalos, I love his special glow… but I hate his color.

I released Skitterflame, who I just didn't bond with.

I recall releasing several spirit beasts of various sorts.

On my other hunter, specifically Vallrok, I'm probably going to release every single pet besides Faron, Seamist, Chime and Sorrow. (Skoll, Ghost Hydra, Aotona and White tiger Saber cat respectively.) He has all the Northrend spirit beasts but honestly the only one I care about is Faron. He also has every Saber Cat skin, but I don't really bond with any but Sorrow, his old buddy.

I actually did this today, I abandoned Sambas (dirty alliance pet! lol) and Rex Ashil today, and my ghostly blue carrion bird. In the wake of making teeny hunters and taming because of something I liked regardless or rarity, my main which I guess you could call my trophy hunter went through some changes in stables and race haha.

I fell in love with Vultros, and I wanted a snake for its skill and talent tree (I keep getting rid of one just to go :[ and tame another one), and I retamed Blacksting to bring him back home (he just had way to much personality for Rex Ashil to begin to try to eclipse). These 3 replaced the pets I abandoned today.

I am still undecided as to what changes will be made next though.

They mean a lot to me, but I'm able to let them go when necessary in order to try new things, knowing they're out there and attainable again when I wish to spend time with them some more. While that's true of any pet in game (being attainable again), many of my pets would never be able to leave my stables on principle. I couldn't bear the thought. Some though...they just can. They're slightly different from revolving door stable slots, I don't view them as disposable, but I just don't need them to be constantly with my character in order to love them. It gives me some room to tame new pets from time to time, and if I change my mind they just come right back.
*nods* I know exactly what you mean. I have some pets that I can let go for a little while and re-tame, and I don't lose the attachment. Sheldon, Twinblade (my chimaera), and Shikon (Gondria) come to mind. Then, there are others that I could either never bring myself to let go (Apollyon and Naphthali for example), or that I stupidly let go (Tetsusaiga) and felt the pain of regret so bad that a simple re-tame was not the solution, and I had to GM ticket him back (and I will never release him again!).

As for ones that I have let go and don't intend to get back, off the top of my head, that'd be Loque'nahak, Sambas and Jadefang. I tamed Loque on a whim once when my husband found him, felt a little bit of remorse after abandoning him because I saw so many other people with him, got a GM to give him back, and then decided once and for all that he just wasn't for me so I let him go again. Sambas I could only use long enough to do one dungeon run, and I just hated how he looked and let him go. Jadefang I kept slightly longer but that's only because he was rotting in my stable instead of being used, and I let him go, too.

I too recently took a good look at my stables and decided it was time to clean up. I ran with most of the pets I rarely use and the ones I struggled to bond with I finally let go. First was the monkey coz the sound they make and the way they move are just super annoying. I also released Echeyakee (for the second time) as I prefer Humar even though he isn't unique since Wrath. (damn you Pitch!)

I still have too many cats on my main but I just adore the skins (Rak'Shiri, Shadowclaw, Humar, Skarr, red Lynx). I have Jadefang, who I also adore but the shale spider ability is total crap imo although I will still keep her for the buff if it is ever required. I searched for Vile Sting for so long that I can't release him even if I never use him. I'm considering releasing Arcturis, who still doesn't have a suitable name as I always use Loque'nahak and Karoma. Next to go was the black hawk Nelf druid form as Aotona is enough for me. I actually have a stable slot open now and have no idea who will be my next tame...

I had about ten pets in my stables. I cleaned it up and now have about five--

Moonlight the Rak'shiri, for sentiment.
Iorek the Shattered Hand Warhound, my not-BM-pet.
Shadow the Oil-Stained Wolf, tamed pre-appearance buff madness.
Aralos the Gondria, my leveling go-to BM pet.
Bayne the Krush, who took so much gold and time to get, I won't get rid of him ever.

And Charizard the Flamepool, but I don't count him.

Hmmm, I know what you mean. I've found myself re-taming families on Arit that I tamed when the stables were extended, and most of the pets I'm happy with. However, I'm not necessarily feeling my Spider, Sporebat (sorry, Tsiya!), and, unfortunately, my Shale Spider. I can always rehome them on other toons, when level appropriate, so they might click on my other girls.

E: Yes, I've let go of them, making my total spare stable slots to 8.

I need to let Deth'tilac go. I never, ever use him. But it's Deth'tilac. I guess I keep him around as a sort of trophy?
I am also pretty indifferent toward my Ankha, but he has fallen into my lap twice so far, so this time around I decided I would keep him.

I would love to have Deth'tilac. Trade? :D I am at the point where I'm out of stable slots again, so I'll have to decide who to get rid of :( I have so many pets whose models I like or who I spent so much time camping, but never use. Gondria would top that list... I camped 15 hours over two days for that cat, absolutely obsessed over it, I only split up my camp because I had to go to work. Finally saw her, forgot about her pounce - she jumped right over my trap and killed me before tame finished, and all the while I was completely freaking out. I finally got her, and was SO excited!! ...and I've barely played with her since. I had trouble naming her, I've used the scroll on her twice, nothing fits, and I just don't click with her. But after all that work, and then a couple years of having her in my stables, I'm not sure I can let go.

I need to find SOMETHING to let go though, I have more tames in mind :\

I try to rotate out my pets every couple of days so that I end up playing with all of them. I have found by doing this, that I enjoy all the pets that I currently have in my stables, and find the ones that I can release because I just don't bond. This has caused me to have a couple of slots open, and I'm quite happy with the pets I have.

Kaelys's stable is perfect. I change pets every few days to give them all some time and I really adore them all. There's one free spot, that's waiting for a blonde saber cat or a hydra, if either actually ever happen.

The type of pet I kept trying to bond with and just couldn't on Kae was devilsaurs. I had a white one, I had the 'nacho' coloured one twice, I had a black one. I just couldn't do it. They look so cool to me in the wild. All huge and stompy and menacing! And then I tame one and it shrinks and I'm all 'meh.' I can't even convince myself to like them by saying they're baby ones. So now when I'm in Un'goro working on a digsite I just spend a little extra time watching them in their natural habitat.

Kaenn's stable is a mess! There's about a dozen I adore in there, then a bunch from my various attempts at having some sort of theme that didn't work so well. When he hits 85 and I start doing dailies on him, I'm going to rotate the critters and see just who sticks.

My failed themes on Kaenn included 'see-through pets' and 'all black and white pets.' I've kept a few who I loved from each of those attempts, or replaced them in colours I actually liked.

My little deader who I play when stuff is just not happening or too much to deal with on my main server has a 'creepy pet with cutsey name' theme, which is going well. So far so good on her stable.

My dwarf who was my main until BC hit and I fell in love with my belf... she only has one pet. At some point I'm going to get her gear and spec fixed and level her a little at a time. I think I may use one of the Pet Challenge threads to get her some critters.

I really need to go through my stables, i keep telling myself but seem to put it off. Its nice having a few stable slots open incase you see something and go " oh hey ill having this pet/color/model a shot" I run into the problem of, it took me forever to get this pet. my stables right now are

Ahkmenrah-Shango
Angelus-Oil worg ( can never be let go cause took me and ryno forever to get him)
Ankh- Ankha
JimmyJacked- TB Fox ( he was a spur of the moment tame who i have fallen in love with and never leaves my active stable slots)
Aeolos-Chrommagus
Akar-Sambas
Athena- Olm
Banafrit- Karoma
Brimstone- Skarr
Buttfire- Skitterflame
still unnnamed- Rak'shiri ( i got him i think do to the fact i camped for him in vanilla and wanted him back but dont use him)
Cyan- Migira ( might get a name change)
DuilwenShanu- King Krush ( my girl who will never, evere leave my stables.. ever)
Eire- Banthalos
Frostfang- Loque'nahak
Luroidea- Blue Madexx
Nostyecash- Kirik
Novas- Deth'tiliac
Samhain- Grezzek
Shambala- Gondria
Topaz- Blue/pruple outland raptor ( again spur of the time tame and love her)
Zatarra- Deathmaw
Eolus- Blue dragon hawk
Ethon- Terrorpene

there a few i could possably let go off, like blue madexx, olm, some other but i dont know if i would have the sanity to go camp them again... but i do miss having more stable slots open for spur of the moment tames like my purple/blue raptor and fox who i love to death and never would of thought they would click since i didnt " plan" for them.

This thread inspired me to do something I knew I had to do for a long time now, thin my stables.

I release one old friend back into the wild carefully. He was a bear I AOE tanked with through Wrath, but don't use him much anymore. Jadefang, Solix, and Karkin soon followed. I almost got rid of Aotona but good grief that bird is just too darn beautiful.

My biggest problem is I have a bunch of rares, and while I rarely use most, I know that if I release them and someday want them again, it will be a long camp to get them. I have all the spirit beasts, but I keep them for story reasons.

One of these days I will raise a hunter alt and force myself to only bond with few pets (less than 10 at least).

I just released a ton of pets, both rare and common. To me WoW is a game first and foremost, and if I don't raid and don't use the pets I keep around, why bother hanging onto them in the first place? If I find them again and my love is rekindled maybe we'll do something then, but Vee's got a new personality, a new story, and it just feels weird staring at the pets who used to belong to the old, shy, socially awkward Veeka. Now I've got some rough-and-tumble gunslinger, and a lot of these pets feel even more distant than they did before...so I let them go.

The ones I released:

Spider (Karoma): She was the only spirit beast I actually camped for and my right-hand pet for ages, but I just don't feel anything. She has no place in Veeka's story anymore.
Kiwi (King Krush): Token golden child of the devilsaurs with a painfully common name. I didn't really feel much for her then, and definitely not now.
Shoryuken (Gondria): It feels weird to drop one and keep the other(Hadouken, my Skoll) but I never use this poor guy.
Rumsley (Ironhide Devilsaur): I've come to the conclusion that I am not a devilsaur person. I have my wolves, and Lemmy is far more precious than any of my t-rexes.
2 unnamed cats from the Barrens: An attempt to bond with the 'less popular' cat colors. Failed.
Unnamed gray wind serpent: Looked much nicer in the wild. :(
Trachela: A very dashing color combo(black and white) but the two heads kind of killed it for me.

And ones I'm thinking about letting go..

Nero (Loque'nahak): I really tried with this guy. He got a new name(went from Dorp to Nero) and ran BC dungeons with me over and over and while I still hate the way he looks, his uglyass appearance kind of suits Veeka's personality. At the same time, I have my precious Skoll and really hate having to trade between the two.
Debbie (Gomegaz): Oh my god poor Debbie. I tamed her out of pity and came to love the yellow drool but she is just too damn loud. Those roars drove me up the wall when I farmed Shattered Halls, and I ended up using a different pet for the rest of the run two pulls in. If I could give her Loque's sound effects we'd be perfect.
Umbergore (Thunderlord Dire Wolf): Agh, this one. Umbergore is, for all intents and purposes, my last tie to Moon Guard and in a sense, Veeka as an Orc. He was my first "roleplay pet" and got a silly, faux-serious name because of it. He's been with me for ages, but the new Veeka has bonded with Lemmy(Snarler) and I feel awkward and OCD about having two wolves. He'll stay for now, but only because I don't think I could stand to let him go.
Scuppers (Sewer Beast): Scuppers was tamed an hour before I left Bloodhoof and my life as a Draenei(I think I was 75?) to move to Moon Guard and, consequently, faction change to an Orc. She gained a bit of a reputation among my friends as her attitude was more than readily apparent - we'd joke about all of the horrible things Scuppers did in her bitter, silent fury; she started Wrathgate, she corrupted the Lich King, she dual wields Warglaives in full Devout and rolls need on intellect plate. She has so much history the thought of letting her go makes me feel horrible, but she just sits in my stables all day. :(

If I could make just one suggestion, Nubhorns, it would be to not let Umbergore and Scuppers go. I felt the same sort of detachment for a while with Tetsusaiga after picking my hunter up again after a couple years of not playing her. I needed stable space, and all Tetsu ever did was sit in my stables. He was like an old, worn shoe to me. He had his run, but it was time to let him go.

Boy, was I ever wrong. Those memories I had of him and me, tackling the great wide world together with my little brother and his owl, were just too near and dear. Those attachments weren't tied to just any ol' white lion, they were tied specifically to him. We had been through so many things and accomplished so much, and had been together for years. Letting him go came to be my biggest regret in WoW, and so I finally ticketed a GM and thankfully got him back.

What I'm trying to say is, while Scuppers may not seem like he's useful to you right now, those memories you have attached to him are very unique and special and I'm just afraid that if you release him, you'll come to painfully regret it like I did. I don't want to see that happen to you. Besides, Scuppers is an adorable name!!!

Edited for lolgrammar.

Sere's stables are pretty perfect, there isn't that many more pets out there that I want for her, and I adore all the ones I have for her.

But I am having some issues with Neyaari's stables. Two particular problems actually. Karoma and Gondria. I tamed Karoma and never really used her after. I am at a loss since I always liked the idea of Karoma and ghost wolves in general. But I just don't think they are clicking. And as far as Gondria goes.... I feel bad because I used to use her a lot more often but ever since I tamed Ankha and Magria she hasn't left the stables.... Heck she didn't get a lot of attention after I finally tamed Loque, so she doesn't get love at all :| I have this feeling I should let them go, I just don't want to feel badly afterwords.

I have too many spirit beasts anyways... I think I will just take some pretty screenshots with them to remember them and let them go.

I'm going through my stables again as we speak. I have zero need for 8 spirit beasts :[

http://www.wowhead.com/npc=38453/arcturis#comments

I tamed arcturis because of a comment left on here saying that Arcturis has a "heart beat" animation about every 5 seconds. I keep staring at him and see nothing except the obligatory spirit beast smoke puffs. I think this guy was nuts, but can anyone confirm or deny this?

Either way I think Arcturis is about to be set freeeeeeeeee, along with Ghostcrawler (which pains me because he was my first) and Jadefang (I just have way too many tenacity pets I'm more attached to and only ever use my red Madexx now really)

It's still hard to say good bye to these critters that were my friend at some point.

I might be able to help with that. I already changed all cat noises to Loque might as well try with core hounds too. *digs through sound files*

On topic, I've been thinking about releasing some pets since right now, 24 pets is too much for me. I need at least 3 empty spots in my stable or I feel claustrophobic. D= Looking through my stable I have seven pets I need to keep for raiding buffs, three that I use for soloing (and I've gotten attached to), plus Hahadori which would be the last pet I would EVER get rid of. This leaves...

Fire pets - I got both the tallstrider and raptor that went boom. Their silliness was lost to me the day after taming them, but my guildies and friends love them. I actually hope they "fix" these guys soon just so I can release them without feeling bad. >.>

Hirameku (warp stalker) - He was never suppose to be a permanent pet. He was supposed to be a temp tank until I tamed Gezz back in Wrath, but she was made untameable before I got her so Hira became my tank pet for everything until he lost his warp in Cata. I have so many good memories with him but Dziko (worm) and Timu (Terrorpene) do a much better job tanking than he does. I specced Hira with a more pvp spec, but I don't pvp.

Jinai (moth) - Don't use him much, but having one pet that can interrupt is nice to have. He has a personality; he's a joker that talks in "lol1337" speak, if you can understand the moth language in Tongues that is.

Kokumo (Lord Kri) - Another tame I didn't plan for. I was going for Princess Yauj instead for her beautiful blue-green skin, but at 80 her stuns and fears where too much for me to get a tame off, so with the help of my boyfriend we both tamed Lord Kri. I never went back for Yauj as I started to like Kokumo. He isn't easy to tame being in a raid, and a boss at that. I do like his skin being unique to him and it is beautiful. His huge size also gets him a lot of attention when I have him out, but he's more of a pvp pet to me and again I rarely pvp. I also can't find a reason why Wassa would ICly tame a silithid.

Mimizuku (Owl) - I had Mimi back in BC, back when we only had three pets max. Her screech was amazing for aoe farming and she raided with me until I hit 30% crit and I released her for a better dps wind serpent at the time. I missed her so much and got her back when we got two extra stable slots in wrath. Now her useful screech is a disarm ability and again I don't pvp, but this orange owl means so much to me.

Sabrina (Fox) - My only pet that does not fit both my color and naming theme. She's named after my rabbit that passed away that I loved dearly. I never even used her in combat once. Fox noises annoy me so much. She is great at dancing on the corpses of dead guildies that don't run back from wipes though, hehe. I guess I can release her and tame her on an alt instead.

Sakki (Carrion Bird) - Sakki goes waaaaay back with me. Vanilla WoW I had two pets: Hahadori and Sakki. He would always be trying to eat my undead friends in RP. Sakki was a different model back then, a normal old world blue vulture, and I let him go to tame the Ghost Wolf in BC. Since then he's had five other models, including the brown owl that was in the carrion bird family, but he was never just right until the teal vulture was made tameable. However, I don't use him much even though I love him.

The Dori Family aka all the tallstrider skins - I only use Hahadori, never the others. This would clear up so many spots but... but tallstriders I love them so much. D=
