As much as I would love to see the already tamed ones being given a hitbox but otherwise staying the same, it is just not realistic at this point. I know nothing of making models into the game, but I'd assume it to be simply too much extra work to make this guy an invisible model of some sorts - all just to make a handful of Hunters happy.
I really don't buy the comparison to the slime to be quite honest.. The slime had an existing model and animations, and there was nothing iffy about the tame. All in all it was a fully functional Hunter pet that had an unusual model. This one has no actual model not to mention animations and to achieve it you'd have to use exact timing to get the
glitch to work - plus as I already stated, the fire patch would have to be separately fixed to act like any normal pet.
