Two self-challenges - Bugs and Reptiles

Unread post by Melentari »

Hey, guys. I'd say this is my first time post, but I've commented and introduced myself, so really, it's my third.

I've been lurking in the forum recently, and I've been using Petopia as a resource for ages now, but I had an idea inspired by you guys that I'm finally acting on. I've rolled two new hunters of races that I've never had a hunter in before, and I've decided to use pets that I've never used much of before.

One hunter is a Night Elf, and for her, I decided she would tame only bugs. Not necessarily rare bugs or special bugs, but bugs I just decided I liked the looks of. Spiders were a little hard to choose as I've always had a problem with spiders as pets - especially after taking her all the way out to Loch Modan to tame one of those beautiful Marsh Hornets. But at level 16, I headed up to Bloodmyst and I tamed one of those very spiky Myst Spinners. My first surprise was how loud the little bugger is! It tamed into an itty-bitty spider, but it's still making giant spider noises! Her second spider is a Venom Web Spider from Duskwood.

Unfortunately, I'm hitting a bit of a dry spell for her until level 47, when she'll get a Duneclaw Broodlord from Tanaris. (Yes, I actually planned out all of her tames. I'm a bit of a list-maker.)

The second hunter is a Human. She's not up to a level to tame her first reptile yet, but it's going to be an Oasis Snapjaw. Luckily, her tames are more staggered through the levels than my bug hunter's.

The one thing that I'm having a little problem with is, once my bug hunter gets up to level 85, which of the rare spiders from MF should I go for? They'd fit her perfectly, but I'm not sure just which, as I only want her to get one of them.

Attached is a screenshot of my bug hunter and her pretty wasp (also, an armor set that I like a surprising amount). Kirix would match her hair, but I'm not worried about something being all matchy-matchy.

Hiya! I'd still suggest Kirix on principle. ;)

I'd definitely suggest Kirix, if only because he'd look perfect with your hunter's hair. >.>

I've never even attempted one of the challenge tames except for Ban'thalos, and I honestly didn't find him to be that challenging. The only challenge there was actually getting perched on the tree. XD But it looks like I'll be giving Kirix a stab!

I say Skitterflame, because while Anthriss is unloved, Skitterflame is more so, if you ask me. People feel bad for Anthriss, no one feels bad for Skitter, with his same model as other spiders and hidden way out in the middle of the nowhere in lava pools.

Skitter is my favorite. Dunno why, but I just love the name and I love the look.

Edit: This may just be my interpretation on my server. Everyone wants Deth/Kirix. No one wants Skitter. D:

I would also vote for Skitter, both because you don't see many, and also because it would contrast really well with your hair <.< Make each of them stand out more next to each other.

Kirix would match your wasp there and can even be claimed as a fiery evolution if you wanted to go that route. Plus, as Kalli said, I'd have to go with Kirix on principle. My favorite

It might have to come down to who's there on what day, you know? I really am kind of leaning toward one of the non-green ones, but, well, she's got a long way to go yet before that happens.

Today, my bughunter, Highwing, dinged 22, and I found myself absolutely stunned.

This is Curious!

He's the Venom Web Spider I got from Duskwood. He was named Curious because I hopped up on a rock with one of the condors, and the brand-newly-tamed spider started waving legs and feelers at it, like 'and what are you, exactly?' I had to name him Curious after seeing that.

I used him for a bunch of quests, trying to get him to grow on me, and then I took him into a dungeon - and wow! I have been stunned by this little spider! He's quieter than my Myst Spinner, Sodell, so that's a huge plus, but more than that, he's quite the little tank. We had tank problems in Wailing Caverns, and Curious was more than happy to pick up the slack.

I think this little bug project of mine is a really good idea.

I agree!!!! <3 I have Kirix, Deth, and Solix, but with the picture you posted (and not just because of the hair color) I think Kirix would work best for your hunter! :)

Have you tried looking into the bone spiders for your nelf? Or do they just bring it beyond creepy for you? Soon as I could on my undead hunter I tamed one and Skitters has been my constant companion ever since. I tamed the Skitterweb Matriarch in silverpine forest, bone spider with purple eyes tameable at the lower levels, and I like the grey color better than the browns, would probably fit your nelf as well.

if you are keeping the green hair, green spider is the way to go :)

While this feature of the Grimtotem Spirit Guide wasn't exactly intended... - it will still be possible in future for everyone who wishes to tame this NPC to do so

I looked at bone spiders - when I first started this idea, I actually thought I should go through and choose two of each model for variety, but I quickly realised that would get way out of hand and I'd run out of stable slots in a hurry, so I went through and just picked my favourite looks from each family. It's a very OOC method of choosing my hunter's IC pets, but I really want to be able to like the pets I'm looking at from this side of the screen.

I love that I've gotten so many opinions on what flame spider to get, though. It's looking like I'll try for Kirix, and if I can't find Kirix, I'll go for Skitterflame. I know that RNG does as it will, so who knows which one I'll find first?
