A few days ago, I was out in the Firelands doing my dailies on my Alliance Hunter (who had just hit 85 about 5 days prior) when my _NPCScan goes off saying Deth’Tilac was up. Even though I thought it was just another false alarm, I figured I’d check her spawn point anyways just to be sure. To my surprise, she was genuinely up, and no one was camping her even though it was the middle of the day.
So, I went and tamed a disposable spider from the nearby area, switched over to my Survival spec, and decided to have at it. Things were going extremely well. Black Arrow was proving to be a wonderful safety net, my traps were landing where they needed to be, and I had no problem rezzing my sacrificial spider. However, when Deth was at 60% health, a Death Knight appeared out of nowhere and started following me around. At first, he was just getting in my face, trying to stand in front of me and auto-follow me around. Then, when Deth got down to 40%, he got more aggressive and started doing the rude emotes like spamming /spit and /laugh and other annoying things in an obvious effort to annoy me and screw things up. Finally, at 20%, he decided he was going to go all out and attack her in an obvious effort to grief me. That ended up being pure stupidity on his part.
When I saw him start to go all out at 20%, I didn’t panic or start yelling at him in /whispers. Instead, I kept my eye on the prize and did the meanest thing I could do to a griefer when it comes to Deth’Tilac being at 20% or more: I hit Feign Death. This immediately cleared my agro, and Mr. Griefer was now at the top of Deth’s hate list. He was obviously surprised by this, and he wasn’t able to outrun the ensuing Deth Strike that she began to cast almost immediately on him. Meanwhile, I got up almost immediately after I hit Feign Death (just long enough to see the crossed swords fade) and fired an auto shot at her so she wouldn’t reset when Mr. Griefer dropped dead at her feet. I also managed to land an Ice Trap at her feet just as she finished Deth Striking Mr. Griefer, and followed it up with a Concussive Shot. From there, I tamed her free and clear.
The story doesn’t end there, though. When Mr. Griefer got back to his body and saw my victory, he immediately started laying into me in /whispers calling me a “Mother ****er”, and “You’re a complete and total ***hole”, and my personal favorite “how dare you **** me over that way”. I found this quite amusing, and just to add insult to injury, I renamed my new pet so that it matched his name with the word “fails” attached at the end. This made Mr. Griefer even angrier, and launched a profanity-laced set of /whispers to me that culminated in him making promises of WoW and Real-Life threats. At that point, I just put him on /ignore and referred his temper tantrums to the GM’s for whatever they want to do to him.
Anyways, when all was said and done, I ended up with a shiny new purple “hot rod” spider that I later decided to rename Dethklok. I really wanted to call her Deth’Klok, but Blizzard doesn’t allow apostrophes when renaming pets. As for Mr. Griefer, I haven’t seen or heard from him since, nor do I really care to. As far as I’m concerned, he got what he deserved, and gave me a good, long laugh in the process. Anything the GM’s do to him is icing on the cake at this point
