Anyone else this strict on which pets to keep?
I've tamed basically all the pets that have persistent buffs after death(abandon/revive) and stabled most of those. The normal lineup I run with are the most uniquely used skins I could find for each type of pet based on typical buffs needed for group. I wish I was playing my hunter back in the time of the hydra and ooze, but unfortunately I was elbows deep in some druid action at the time. I check this site every other day mostly for news of something new discovered(had a fiery raptor/tallstrider for a few days too) or maybe someone noticing a pet gone on the ptr, so I can tame it before patch day.
On a side note. I was also very upset when they changed the Death ravager skin and made it easier to get on azuremyst. As well as nerfed the pet forcing anyone who had it to lose that one. My uncle and I made draenie warriors on our server(pve at the time) on each others account just to open the cage and tame that guy. Could honestly say I rarely seen another horde with that pet.

1.) It must be a rare spawn.
2.) It must have a unique skin.
So every pet he tames is one that the only way to get that skin is to tame that particular pet. Even pets that have more than one rare with the skin (there are gorillas and worms like this) are off his list.
He does have one exception. He came upon Humar the Pridelord and tamed him, despite Pitch (easily accessible mob in Sholazar) having the same skin.

There's no right or wrong way to be a hunter. Just personal ways!

Seconded.GormanGhaste wrote:I just pick pets whose appearance I like. Don't really care how common they are in the wild or as tamed pets.
I see a pet I relate to, I tame it. Period.
I have some rares.. because I found them attractive.
I HAD some rares that I released because the noises they made got on my very last nerve. Despite liking their look (birds are like that for me) the annoyance of the sound effects was too much.
And then there's my Shale Spiders, which I NEVER thought I'd click with, and ended up being totally in love with. Any hunter toon I have who's level appropriate has a Shale Spider. Strange. And I'm a dog person. But rarely use the dogs I have.

I'm trying to experiment with themes now, so I'll be a LITTLE more selective, but as long as the pet fits my desired theme, I won't put any other restrictions on it. I might even make exceptions (example, I'm gonna find some regular wolf model that fits my theme best, though none really do, just cause I'm really not if I'll be able to put up with the NR worg model for the colour changer half of my goblin's theme...), but even so, that, in the end, comes down to what I personally like, or don't like.

I actually like dual-boxing identical twins.
I almost uniquely play Blood Elves, and when I pair up two hunters, they are generally wearing the exact same gear, and more likely than not, also running with the same pet.
But at least they all have unique names.

Oh same here. I figure the entire point of having more than one hunter was so that I could pick up as many of my favorite models as I could. So it feels like I'm wasting space having duplicate skins, plus the pets just don't feel the same on different characters. What I love alongside one toon just doesn't click with another.Mozag wrote:My only rule is to never tame the exact same skin of a certain model on another hunter. I believe the only one I had shared for a while was a red Madexx as it was the only one that ever showed up. But it bothered me so much having it on three hunters, eventually I just dumped two of them.

Part of Dynasty, lvl 25 Alliance guild, casual and hardcore (your choice, no one forces you to raid, but you can), very helpful
Come on over if interested (Runetotem US, Horde name Sarantha, Ally name Ellysetta or Valeraud)

Re: Anyone else this strict on which pets to keep?
Hah, yes. I have this too. All my hunters have a theme and sometimes my OCD habit of NOT HAVING THE SAME PET ON MORE THAN ONE HUNTER has caused me to spend hours pondering on stable make ups. As an example, I have a hunter who has a Victorian Gothic theme, so for her I tend to go for gloomy dark (and sometimes green) pets. But then, my other hunter has a sort of Lolita feminine Gothic theme and her pets, while usually purple, red or black occasionally overlap with the Victorian Gothic theme. I have spent many hours juggling these two. But, at the end of the day, I rather enjoy the planning of stables. Probably why I'm so addicted to making new hunters.GormanGhaste wrote:I have different pet themes for each of my hunters. Usually that leads to different pets, but sometimes a skin will fit with more than one of my hunters. Favorite pets are never a wasted space!

Admittedly, I prefer if it's not a pet that every other hunter is running around with, but super common skins? Those are great.
I also tend to go for the rare spawns of those commons, if only because I find them more fun to look for. xD
