Understandable.
Going forward though.. it does help clean up loot issues. Mages and Locks only will have wands, correct?.. I wonder what they are going to do with hybrid classes like shammys.

The only glitch is how they're goona work around the legendary that a lot of casters just got. Will we be able to still use it as a mount at least?? I can't imagine they would take that away. I'm still like a month away from my legendary (i switched guilds mid patch) but will definitely be able to use it for 4.3.
Did they specifically say they were taking Daggers, 1 Handed Swords, 1 Handed Maces, and Staves away from Mages, Warlocks, and Priests? I ask because this is the only WoW related site I have access to at work, and last I saw, they only said they were making Wands one handed weapons. They didn't mention anything about taking the other weapons they can currently equip away, but again, I haven't seen updates since last night.

Also this... was wondering the same myself. Just scrolled back through all the MMO Champ stuff, and I don't see them saying anything like that. It's just the ranged slot that goes away. All stat sticks are gone. You may well still have the 2H vs MH+OH option.
I just looked up what was actually said about wands becoming main hand weapons. It doesn't say that casters will not be able to equip a staff (i.e. the legendary), only that wands are now main hand weapons and we have no more ranged slots. Ranged weapons are for hunters only. It does say hunters will not be able to equip a melee weapon. Unless more information is given I'm assuming casters can still use and equip the melee weapons allowed to their class but wands will be added to those main hand slots as well as staves, swords, daggers, and maces. I'm sure Mages and Warlocks will be able to use wands but wonder if Boomkins and Ele Shaman's will now be able to as well?
Ranged Weapons
Hunter minimum range is gone!
Hunter melee weapon is gone! Ranged slot for all other characters are gone.
Relics are gone.
Rogues and warriors can now throw their melee weapon Wands become main hand weapons

I really don't think they're taking staves away from casters, just adding wands as another mainhand option, possibly replacing spell daggers. With hunters, the logic is that the game uses main hand weapon whenever possible. The change is, they're removing the "secondary" weapon, and making ranged weapons main hand. In the case of hunters, this removes the issue because now our melee weapon isn't obstructing anything because it's our main hand.
Basically, this is tidying up of the hunter class, and removing some more relics of the vanilla hunter. It's just unfortunate it's so late, as now we have melee weapons we're attached to. For casters, they're making wands an option for those who are attached to them, while leaving staves available.
Sesamee wrote:Hmm, I wonder if we'll be able to transmog all main hand weapons the way hunters will be able to transmog bows, guns, or crossbows?
I doubt it, they've said they want to keep transmog within weapon/armor-class.

Very well stated, the bolded portion especially rings true. I think the perks we're getting in exchange outweigh the sadness though, and I'm sure we'll learn to cope without our melee weapons.

Rhyela wrote:So maybe that just means you can use either a staff or a wand? Doesn't necessarily sound like wands are replacing staves altogether. Hmm.
That's been my assumption. The way it reads to me, Blizzard is dumping the range and relic slots for the various caster classes, but wanted to keep wands around, so they are making them one handers. If anything, they'll probably be one additional option for casters, and not "the only option".

This, I also want to be able to use it for the mount aspect. Screw this change.
They didn't say staves would not be equippable, just that wands would become a mainhand item. So instead of having to settle for a spell dagger or sword with an offhand, you can use a wand and offhand. Staves will still be around, it seems.
Thanks everyone for giving me a different perspective on this. I hope that you are all correct and that I was reading too far in between the lines (which is entirely possible given my reaction to the weapons change to hunters). I play casters too and don't want to get relegated to wand only status with them when they have some really cool swords and staves to choose from, especially since I'll be losing the ability to equip those on my hunters.

Honestly, it doesn't take like 10 people to come in here and keep saying the same thing. I know that I've already back-tracked my statement that so long as I get to keep at least seeing my staff, I'll be happy. I imagine any others like myself feel the same way.

You weren't the only one. There were others pitching a fit over nothing too and there's more than 5 people on this forum so you're gonna get repeat responses cause people are allowed to reply to statements.

I've had some cool melee weapons before, sure, but it's always bothered me that I could see my melee weapon instead of my ranged weapon. I'm a hunter, I don't want to look like a rogue with two swords on my back, or a warrior with a giant 2H axe.
I, for one, would be utterly giddy if we could instead see our ranged weapons, and if they let us see quivers and ammo pouches. /nerdgasm And zomg, can you imagine if they also did something like make dual-wielding pistol-like guns? Like how there are 2H and 1H melee weapons, make things like bows and xbows and the big rifles 2H, and make some smaller 1H ones too that you could dual-wield. I realize that's probably just dreaming, but it'd still be cool. Let me have my moment of fantasizing, lol.
Like I said, I realize I'm in the minority.
Don't worry, I'm with you heh. Plus I think the quiver thing would be pretty awesome.

It wasn't over nothing. Those of us who will have worked our asses off for our legendary staves were just concerned that they would be unusable. That is a completely understandable thing to get upset about. You go do Through a Glass Darkly as a warlock then come tell me that just the thought that the staff might be unusable doesn't "get your panties in a wad". Once it was figured out (at least based on the info we have now) that that won't be the case all is good.

They never said the staff was unusable. Not once was it EVER stated. People misconstrued it aka got their panties in a wad because they misread it and believed it rather than go back and reread to understand the line Blizz stated or ask nicely if staves were being taken away.
If blizz was taking something away, they clearly would state it. Since they never said anything like "Staves -GONE!" then obviously staves are still around for casters. And if you really stop to think...why in the world would they go out of their way to make a CASTER LEGENDARY STAVE just to say "No you cant use it anymore!"? That's another indicator right there. Chillax and make sure what you're reading is what you think it is before spazzin about it. xD
