Blue Skies

Part 1 :

William crouched down low on the hilltop. He could hear the terrible commotion coming from below. Pulling himself along on his stomach he finally reached the edge of the steep drop off. Sure enough pandemonium reined supreme in the small valley below.

A large tiger was attacking a raptor. The tiger was huge! Three hundred pounds at least, perhaps more. The raptor was agile and quick though. This would be a contest of wills and he was mesmerized by the combat. He could see the raptors orange hide was marked by three long red lines. The tiger scored first blood then. The tiger crouched low to the ground and began to circle the raptor. The theropod was not stupid and rotated to keep it’s front pointed directly at the circling predator. It was at that very moment an arrow came rocketing in impacting the raptor under it’s left armpit.

Instantly he realized this was no ordinary meeting between these two formidable beasts. Expertly the tiger had gathered the raptors full attention and then turned it to line up a kill shot. He rotated his head around trying desperately to locate the Hunter nearby, but could see nothing. Whom ever he was, he was good.

William returned his full attention back to the fight below. Although mortally wounded the raptor continued to struggle. It’s jaws snapped at the tiger even though it’s two powerful legs were beginning to buckle. The raptor was dead, it just didn’t realize it yet. As he watched the tiger continued it’s hypnotizing dance around the stricken beast taunting it. And, then another arrow silently hit home dead center of the raptors chest. This was over...

He debated sliding back the way he had come. He wasn’t in the mood to watch anymore when the raptor did something strange. As he watched, the raptors head tilted back and it loudly called out four times. He paused. Raptors never did that in the Wetlands. Granted he wasn’t a Hunter by any means, but that was behavior he had never witnessed before. He stayed rooted to the spot straining to make out every detail.

Sure enough it happened again. The raptor threw it’s head back and called out loudly once more, but this time it did not finish it’s calls. Yet another arrow slammed directly into it’s throat. It gurgled for a brief moment and fell over. It’s back legs kicked violently several times and then it was still.

For the second time he decided to abandon his perch, but again something kept him from moving. His eyes grew wide and he saw three orange raptors slip quietly from the thick jungle cover. The stricken raptors calls for help seem to have been heard. The tiger immediately sensed the new arrivals and spun around to face them. William knew the tiger was powerful, but not enough to fend off all three at once.

If the Hunter was smart he would slip away and allow his pet to pay the price for this mistake. He felt a slight pang of regret for the majestic beast that was about to fall below. He couldn’t watch that magnitude of slaughter and began to slip backwards. That’s when he heard the war cry from his left.

His head snapped back around just in time to see a female Blood Elf erupt from the jungle. Her hair was silver pulled back in a long ponytail and she carried a massive bow the likes of which he had never seen. His mouth dropped open as the frail looking elf nocked an arrow and let fly. It hammered into the eye of the nearest raptor. She never stopped screaming or firing her bow. The nearest raptor howled and fell to the ground lifeless as a stone, but it wasn’t going to be enough. The tiger leaped onto the back of another raptor biting into it’s neck. Sadly the remaining raptor was already closing the distance to the insane Blood Elf. Stunned he watched her drop to her back allowing the mad beast to pass over her body. As she rose to her feet this crazy elf was already drawing her bow. Two arrows landed rapid fire into the raptors flank and it cried out in pain.

William nodded. It seems they will both survive after all. A tiny voice in his head was mildly happy about it, but he wouldn’t dare say so aloud and then it all went to hell...

Blue Skies

Part 2 :

William lay perfectly still bearing witness to the amazing dance of death below him. The female Blood Elf was growling more than her pet tiger as they both fought for their lives. He had thought they had everything under control, but then three more raptors had burst from the jungle. This was rapidly becoming a killing field and the Hunter and pet would tire soon.

He blinked to clear the sweat from his burning eyes. He found he could not look away, but he should. He should just slip away silently and never look back. These were not his allies. They were not even friends why should he even care? His muscles tensed under his thick plate armor as the elf rolled to her right and came up firing. She certainly had spirit, that was in no doubt. He found himself silently cheering her on, but then thing’s got much worse. One of the fresh raptors managed to get in behind the two defenders. While the tiger faced off two of the newcomers the third raked the girl across her slim back. He saw the blood fly several feet in all directions. The force of the blow sent her flying across the valley floor where she collided with a towering tree. The impact alone should have killed her.

Something inside of him snapped and he found himself bounding down the slop, himself howling like a madman to draw the raptors attention. It worked. In fact it worked much to well. All three newcomers turned towards him forming a rough defensive perimeter. He drew his broad sword from the sheath on his back and readied himself for combat. “ Come on! Pick on someone your own size! “

William didn’t give the raptors time to debate the idea, he simply charged in head first. The bright blade of his massive sword was soon covered in crimson as he waded through the hail of snapping jaws and razor sharp claws. The sound of deadly blows echoed from his thick armor and he pushed forward. Through the mass of twisting bodies he saw the tiger falling back to protect the Hunter. She was not moving and he discovered that unsettled him. With renewed force he hammered his way through the raptors. They pressed in on all sides and it was only a matter of time before...

He felt the teeth sink deeply into his left side. One of the only places there was a gap in his armor. Blast! He should have wore full rigging today. He twisted from the monsters jaws and brought the heavy sword down with all his might. Coming down with the force of a felled tree it sliced through flesh, bone and buried itself into the earth.

The two remaining raptors snorted loudly and lowered their heads preparing to strike together, but William growled jerking the sword free of the ground. Now the left side of his armor reflected the bright sunlight with a red tint, but that didn’t matter anymore because he’d had quite enough. He roared and charged forward catching the raptor on the right by surprise. His momentum was so great he ran the creature completely through and then drove it into the ground with his right shoulder.

He pulled himself from the now red grass angry and incensed. Spinning around he readied himself for the last remaining opponent when a flash of orange and black flew passed his eyes. With a titanic roar the tiger slammed into the last raptor sending it tumbling yards away, but that wouldn’t give it any advantage. Before the raptor could even get it’s legs underneath itself, the tiger was upon it once more. It’s wicked hind claws slashed out trying desperately to eviscerate the large cat, but the tiger was to wary. Coming in low to the ground the big cat locked it’s powerful jaws securely around the raptors neck and in seconds a loud snap sounded across the valley floor. After a moment the tiger let the limp creature go and galloped back to it’s fallen master.

William breathed hard trying regain his senses and heard a moan from behind him. The Blood Elf! He spun around and moved over to where she lay at the base of the tree. He winced now seeing the full extent of her injuries. There was no way the poor girl would make it...

Blue Skies

Part 3 :

William bent down grimacing. The Blood Elf’s wounds were horrific. He reached to move her and the tiger growled putting it’s ears down. William hesitated. “ Look. I have to see how bad she is. Okay? “ He eased his hand an inch forward to see what reaction he would get. The tigers eyes narrowed, but the growls stopped. Satisfied he wasn’t going to get mauled he placed a hand behind her shoulder and gently turned her around. She groaned loudly, but thankfully passed out from the pain seconds later.

He stared at the three deep slashes crossing diagonally on her back. They went to the bone and were bleeding terribly. His mind raced with what to do. After a minute he began to unbuckle his plate armor. Once his chest piece was off he unbuttoned his white undershirt pulling it off. He folded it neatly placing it across her injured back. Next he pulled his wide leather belt off securing that around her shoulders to hold the bandage in place. Satisfied with his handy work he pulled his thick metal armor back over his torso. The thick metal bit down into his flesh, but he’d endure that without complaint.

Now he had to make the big choices. He struggled with his options and finally decided on a course of action. Before he dared reach for the wounded elf he looked towards the tiger. “ Okay... I have to get her to help. Do you understand? “ He paused trying to see if perhaps the big cat might have understood. The tiger seemed at peace with his actions so far. He carefully hefted the elf girl up and cradled her in his arms. He could do this...

As he walked slowly out of the valley the tiger was ever present beside him always glancing up at the elf he held in his arms. As they walked he found himself carrying on one sided conversations with the giant beast. “ You know I once had a dog. Raised it from a pup. It never doted over me this much. Are you sure you’re not an old grandmother in disguise? “ The tiger would sometimes narrow it’s green eyes in threat, but so far had restrained itself from actually killing him.

As the hours passed William was slowing down. The road seemed to stretch on forever and he was getting dizzy. The tiger would nudge him forward sometimes if he stopped to long. That didn’t bother him as much as his sudden weakness. He could walk for days without getting tired. Why was it so hard now? He stumbled and almost lost his footing. The petite Blood Elf in his arms moaned as he fought to regain his balance. He stopped waiting for her to settle back into restful unconsciousness. It was then he noticed his left leg had gone numb. He looked down and saw the blood covering all the shinny surfaces of his leg armor.

He had thought that it might have been the girls at first, but knew it was in fact his own. The wound on his side wasn’t hurting. He didn’t think it had been that bad. He searched his dim memories for what could be happening when it dawned upon him. He’d been a fool! Some raptors carry poisons in their mouths. They can pass it on when they bite and apparently this toxin was not allowing his blood to clot properly.

He stood swaying on the edge of the dirt roadway. “ I’m going to bleed to death... “ The knowledge was sobering, but after only a minute he turned back North and continued slowly walking. The tiger fell in perfect stride with him and he sighed heavily.

Another hour passed and his vision was becoming foggy and narrow. He fought for each step forward. His teeth were gritted hard as he willed himself to keep moving. The slight weight of the girl was wearing him down. His arms felt as if they would break at any moment, but he couldn’t lay her down. If he did he’d never be able to pick her up ever again. With brutal determination he struggled onward even as the world grew dim around him. Just as he couldn’t go on a blurry object suddenly materialized on the road ahead. As he watched it grew larger and larger. As his strength waned he found himself on his knees, but still he would not drop the elf. As the darkness swelled over his eyes he smiled. His dried lips split as it grew wider and wider. From up ahead he could just make out a wagon pulled by two horses. On the drivers bench sat a goblin, but at that moment he lost his battle with the poison and passed out...

Okay,

Real life as always is being a pain today... I have to talk to a guy about my toxic mold issue, but I’m leaving a brief look at a future part preview...

Blue Skies : Preview of up coming events :

Lord Brenhin peered out over the battlements in disbelief. “ Impossible! “ Amassed before his wall were hundreds of Tauren. They wore armor and wielded heavy weapons. He was awestruck by the assemblage arrayed before his eyes.

Behind the lord strode his commander Gafford. The weathered old warrior stood at attention behind Brenhin, but soon realized his lord was not going to acknowledge his presence. He was growing tired of the man’s continued ignorance, yet knew his lot was thrown in for whatever came next. “ M’lord I told you not to ignore the Tauren’s demands out of hand. “

Brenhin spun about with fire in his eyes. “ You told me! You!!! “ Brenhin had told his commander not to worry that the Tauren were just a bunch of simple bovine with dreams of grandeur. Now he saw the error of his opinion. “ Gather all our forces on the main wall now! “

Cairne Bloodhoof stepped away from his warriors so that all along the high walls could see him. His gray mane blew in the evening breeze as he looked up at the human defenses. He was a compassionate and understanding being, but even his vast patience had it’s limits.

He lifted his massive totem staff high into the air bringing it down onto the ground with thunderous force. There he left it and strode forward. When he was within shouting distance he stopped. In his deep booming voice he spoke. “ I am Cairne Bloodhoof. Leader of the Tauren people. You have a daughter of Mulgore held against her will herein! Her name is Roonorra , chief of the Grimhoof! And, she will be free before the sunsets this day! “ Cairne paused eyeing all of the archers and warriors far up on the walls battlements. “ If she is not released I will bring this keep down around you Brenhin, son of Durnholde! “

Gafford looked down at the noble Tauren leader knowing full well thing’s had just gotten much worse. He sighed heavily mumbling to himself. “ Ahhh bloody hell.... “

Actually,

I wrote a short story with Death Knights awhile back, but no way I could post it here. I'd have people passing out just from the torture scene of my main character.

(points finger at Lich King) Evil so and so..!

Okay,

Due to demand , Blue Skies is on hold while Knightmare takes over for awhile... But, I'll still finish BS's... Just working on my real book and forum stories at once is a bit " rough " while battling the Toxic mold and doctoring kitty's... So Knightmare will be finished first since people want deathknight stuff more at the moment...

Take Care, Roo...
