I now understand why Kirix is so stressful.. but what luck!

Unread post by Helsinki »

I dinged 85 on my baby worgen hunter (I guess not a baby anymore!) last night and of course the first thing I did was open up the molten front and have a look around. I found Kirix, tried several times to tame, and then an orc got him with the rock method just as I was trying again. I was bummed, but grats to him.

So tonight after I got home from work I logged in, and my toon was parked in Deth's area. I get an alert for Solix, so I rush down there and start trying for him. I failed twice (got terrible luck getting hit by fireballs right before tame finished), finally got the guy, which makes me super happy since he is my 2nd favorite pet in the game. I eagle eyed over to Skarr's area and happened to see Kirix just coming around the bend, so I headed over.

My hunter is a brand-new 85, and I have 2 pieces of s10 gear that I bought right away from being honor capped. I have just under 111k hp. I had a corehound, used his bloodlust, and abandoned because my other 4 slots were filled with pets I got today (got ban'thalos and Ankha this morning!). But... I failed.

I failed for over half an hour, having to run and repair once because all my gear was broken. I failed so many times that I ate all the food I had and I paid a priest to come up to me and trade me a stack of food and buff me with fort! And still I failed some more. (using Disengage method, btw.) I just didn't seem to have the hp for this.

But then I found some prismatic elixirs in my bag from taming Terrorpene at 82! So I popped one of those, tried again ... and failed. Now I was out of speed potions. I checked my combat log and the prismatic elixir was really helping a lot, so I resolved to give it just one more go. I ate a piece of level 70 stam food (which bumped me to just 111k hp), used my elixir, and tried one last time... I died, and at that moment Kirix despawned and appeared in my stable tab :D

In short, what a headache this was!! When I tamed him on my other hunter I had ~138k hp and only had to try twice or so to get the method down. This time around, it really came to pure luck - how much damage I could resist and all that.

I'm with Shinjiro... I am so glad I never have to do that again. Now to get Deth to spawn...

Grats! Holy cow, disengage Kirix tames with hp that low are just plain terrifying.

Congrats on your tame! I've actually watched a few hunters try 10+ times to tame him before success. He certainly is a pain. (In fact one guy named his "Pain" cause the experience was such a pain =P)

I feel ya! I just tried for two hours to tame Kirix! I stubbornly refused to give up. The rock method was buggy and didn't work so I finally switched to the disengage way. Got him the second time! And I thought Deth was hard lol!

Thank you! I am definitely relieved haha. I was thinking of giving him a name to reflect the torture he put me through, but we'll see :b And yeah... 111k hp disengage tame without any core hound or speed potion at the end was terrible. I thought for sure I was going to fail and was prepared to just log off to save myself further frustration. I'm glad I tried again, though. And at least now I know it's possible... if you're willing to possibly get frustrated enough to want to bang your head into a wall lol. Compared to that mess, I'm not even stressed out about taming Deth... at least that one has nothing to do with my HP and I've had plenty of practice! hahah

Was pretty ballsy taming him that way. There aren't many people who can tame him using that method with hp that low. So be proud of yourself. :)

Thank you! :) I have a feeling I'm going to feel even more attached to him on this hunter than I do on my other :)

Damn, I'm so lucky today that even *I* almost hate me!

This morning:
Ankha
Ban'thalos

This evening after work:
Solix
Kirix

Just now:
Deth
Magria

6 in one day... seriously? Wow... I hereby revoke my right to complain about anything at all for at least a week.

A tame's a tame, no shame in the rock method if it works! :b I'm horrible at rock jumping so I didn't even bother hahah.

I'm dancing with a troll hunter now over by Skarrkin's area. I chatted with him a bit on a horde alt, and we've agreed on him getting Skarr and me getting Karkin (he already has the crabby and I know he's been waiting forever for Skarr). Hopefully we'll find out soon which of us goes home with a shiny haha. I hope he gets Skarr, tbh, I've already had such a good day and he's waited so long.

Karkin it was. I feel bad that it wasn't Skarr! I hope the kind troll gets him soon.
