Your favorite animal?

Hoatzins. Hoatzins are badass. As hatchlings they're born with claws on their wings so they can climb up trees and onto branches and the like until they're capable of flight - but they lose the claws once they reach adulthood. Is it creepy? Kind of. Do hoatzins care? Not in the least. They're just here being seemingly inexplicably weird and there's nothing you can do about it. They could climb all over your roof if they wanted to. With creepy little birdfingers. It's okay though, because they eat almost nothing but leaves, flowers and fruit, so you're safe from the fingerbirds unless you're a tree.

While I wish my choice could be exciting and exotic, my favourite animal is the domestic dog. It comes in so many wonderful varieties, all of which are near, dear and gorgeous. I can't imagine my life without one! Dogs FTW.

Ever read Empire of the Ants?

No, I've read neither the HG Wells short story nor the more recent French novel. Do you recommend either of them? I did read all the non-fiction books on ants that I could get at the library as a child. I recommend Journey to the Ants as a good recent overview of myrmecology.

Rofl. No worries; it's not nearly as terrifying as a picture of a spider that big would be. XD I was just like, ack, giant ant for a couple seconds before scrolling past it.

Well, I am an avid hunter, and before anyone asks, I am NOT a trophy hunter. I hunt for food for my family, and its what my family has done for generations. But, with this comes a lot of respect for wild life so I think my favorite animal would be the Rocky Mountain Elk. There is something very majestic about an elk, they are very large and powerful, but yet they can sneak through the oak brush like a shadow. I have Native American heritage, and the Native Americans have a huge respect for Elk, referring to them as Ghost Deer. If you have never seen an elk, and find yourself out in Colorado any time, go to Estes Park. The Elk there roam the streets and golf courses, many people go there just for this experiance.

Oh boy, favorite animals. It's hard to choose a place to start! My favorite mammal, the cat, requires no explanation, but my favorite bird does:



The kakapo is one of the rarest birds in the world, with only 131 alive. It's a large, flightless parrot native to New Zealand, and, though it was once common, invasive species, habitat loss, and hunting pushed it to the brink of extinction. With pretty, moss-colored feathers and an owl-like face, it's very unusual among parrots. Pretty much a living dodo, it's only survived due to the efforts taken by some concerned people.

As you can imagine, these birds get pretty lonely...

I love African savannah animals in general. Probably explains why I spent so much time in the Barrens back in Vanilla. I just went there to hang out and look at the creatures all the time.

Favorite animal?

Cats in every size: from normal pet-cat to Tiger, lion and cheetah. I love them all.
and of course: horses: I can't imagine my life without them (well and without my cats)
