Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]

He is huge before taming and shrinks quite a bit once he's your pet.

I named him Cranky because he always seemed grumpy. I should have named him Drooly after the fiery drool that continuously streams from his mouth. Gross! And his body is a florescent green with black patches and spots all over. Unfortunately, to me, it looks like he's covered in mildew. Needless to say this was not one of my more enjoyable tames. Between the drool and the mildew I couldn't wait to release him to go do whatever it is he does in the Blasted Lands. Oddly, I tamed a red corehound in a previous challenge and didn't like the drool but it didn't bother as much as on this skin. I actually kind of liked that corehound. Probably because he wasn't covered in mold like Cranky!!

Corehounds are exotic so you have be at least 69 and have a BM spec to tame or use them. They have a bloodlust ability which comes in extremely handy so if you're BM you will need to use your corehound in raids occasionally. Their other ability is Lava Breath, a continuous 30% slow on casting. Very helpful! Plus they are in the ferocity tree so they do excellent dps. I highly recommend having one in your stable.....just not this one!

I took Cranky swimming and he does this adorable little dog paddle through the water. It was cute enough that I almost liked him a tiny bit....almost..

Any warm fuzzy feelings I felt immediately evaporated once we surfaced and swam to shore. As he swam he flung his drool behind him!! Disgusting!!

His idle animations are the same as most corehounds, a head bobbing sort of thing and a howl. I have an addon that quiets a corehound's sound as I cannot stand the crackly fire sound that they make. I think this must quiet the howl they do too. That kind of sucks but if it means I don't have to hear the horrible fire noise then I'll deal with it.

Here are some shots of Marama, my corehound, who I adore! Now THIS is a corehound!

Gorgeous, ferocious, and totally badass....all without the mildew and drool! Cranky could learn or thing or two from her on proper corehound hygiene and etiquette!

In case you couldn't tell, Cranky is definitely not staying on in my stables. With the mold and the drool I can only imagine the amount of cleaning I'd have to do if he were a permanent resident. No thanks! So peace out, Cranky! Don't let the stable door hit ya where Deathwing split ya!

Front shot:

Back and side views. He looks really nice from the side:

Kulingile swimming and doing a bit of combat in Molten Front. His swim animations are...well, wormlike, as expected. his combat animations consist of mostly lunging and biting:

Kuli and Sara:

Of course, since I am keeping him, and have had him for awhile, you know I already really like Kulingile. Kuli is great at holding aggro and I used to use him a lot for dailies. His burrow attack is really neat looking and does nice damage. His acid spit is awesome. Extra physical damage? Hell yeah! Good for us all! I'd prefer it to be a DoT or poison again, but the extra physical damage isn't bad either. His idle animation is just twisting his little head around and opening his mouth, as seen in the last image. I love Kuli and would definitely tame more worms of his model if I had the stable room. I really loved the blue worm I did the report on and would love to go back and get him. Kuli has my heart as my favorite worm, though. He's sticking around!

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]
The only mob with this skin are the Quillfang Skitterers in Hellfire Peninsula. On Petopia, there is a note stating they retain their skittering animations. This was true in the past (I remember taming one in BC), but it seems now they just run like any other ravager upon being tamed.
Quillfang Skitterer in the wild - their running animation is the upright "walking" animation, sped up. They used to retain this as their running animation once tamed.

Once tamed, their posture now changes, and they run hunched over. All ravagers run like this as far as I know.

I have a love/hate relationship with ravagers. I had a spikey purple/pink one for a while in BC for the damage Gore did (they no longer have Gore) and I had problems bonding with it. I eventually abandoned it and went back to my cat. There's just something about their anatomy that just doesn't jive with me. They kind of look like walking chairs or umbrella stands or something. There's a lot about them I do like, though. So I can't outright say I dislike them. I do know I prefer how they look running over how they look standing.
I named this one Tickles, because a ravager named Tickles is funny. I like his coloration. Upon taming him, I was like, "Ooo, pretty."

They also have a cute idle animation where they look from side to side and open their mouths in a threatening manner. To me it looks as if they're looking behind at YOU the player (as our view is almost always from behind) in a GRR WHY YOU DO THIS?! sort of way. They also have little nub tails that can be seen from this angle, that I find sort of cute.

Most of my time in game now a days is spent soloing for mounts or PVPing. So... I took Tickles to Heroic UP.

I really have nothing stellar to report. We killed things quick with his special ability that increases physical damage. But to me, he seemed overly squishy. I don't think there's a difference between Ferocity pet health and Cunning pet health, but I've never had to stall so much to heal a pet before. The mob phase of Skadi was really hectic. Skadi of course, went down easy enough. Not sure if this is a fluke, but... it didn't sell me much on ravagers.
Afterwards, I moved on to Icecrown to do Tourny dailies. Things died.

But again, if I got too many mobs at a time, he felt squishy. I was able to complete my dailies, but sent Tickles home shortly afterwards.
There's certain aspects of Ravagers that I like, especially the mid-air spin they do while fighting (which I couldn't get a screenshot of). They're quiet, not distracting in any way, colorful and mean-looking (not to mention great little damage dealers). I just have a hard time getting around the few aspects that I dislike about them - their strange, completely alien anatomy, mostly. And Tickles seemed squishy. As a mostly solo player, I don't like squishy pets. I would definitely get one if I did more group stuff though.

Also, it's worth noting that both the ravager's and worm's 4% increased physical damage debuff affect their damage as well, thus making them able to produce higher threat (and their own damage).
And aye, Melentari; I LOVE that screenshot Kal got of his dino from the front. Had a total squee moment when I saw it.

And yeah, ravagers are really great damage dealers. I just haven't been able to bond with one. I did have one in my stables when I was doing 5 mans, but since I pretty much solo now, I got rid of him.
Glad you guys liked the screenshot. I thought it was adorable. Toothy is such a happy boy.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]
Walking swiftly and sliently across the lush grasses of Teldrassil, i come upon this clearing where lots of these birds where flying about. seizing the chance to get some more feathers for my arrows, and some fresh meat. i'm gonna kill my self if i have to eat any more of that "fresh" stuff, i swear by the goddess, that stuff is like, years old. As i shoot down the third bird, this beast leaps out at me from the Shadows. the beast clawed me with a flurry of paws, and the occasional lunge-bite. when the beast finally knew i was beat, it pranced around me, it's blue green eyes, full of mischief and joy. The beast was toying with me. Playing along i grabbed a fist full of grass, and lobbed it at the beast. The beast ran around in joy, evidently happy that it had somebody to play with. when i walked off, the beast walked off with me. It evidently wanted to be my friend, and so i let it.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]

The white ghost demon dog. This creature can only be found in the depths of Karazhan. I NEVER had even seen Karazahn before and had to look up where it was. I was already playing wow during BC, but I never entered any of those raids. So when my fiance got back from work and I had him in Skype, I burst out my request to take me there. Luckily for me, he knows most of the old raids and even knew where we had to go to find this dog. So we fly over to this tower in the eastern kingdoms, open a raid group, turn right after coming into the raid and enter the dusty, cobweb filled cellar. After a room full of spiders *eeew* my fiance seems very pleased with himself and shows me a couple of dogs walking around. I spot one ghostly white on - and almost disconnect. Screen goes to a stop and I don't see anything but Morga's big back anymore. My fiance tells me "oh the dogs hit you now,... they still hit you" - funny, thanks. My laptop finally decides to be good again and I find Morga being chewed on by two of the patrolling dogs, both white. I think I have one of them in target, hit tame and the next group comes stomping towards me. Surrounded by about 6 dogs trying to eat my face the tame finishes and I even have tamed the right dog. We finish of the other ones and I can finally take a screenshot.
I named my new fellow Poof, because I tamed him after a heavy fight with a friend of mine and all I could think of was this stupid thing: "Hey want to see a magic trick?" "yeah" "Poof, you're single"

Appearance:
Poof is small. We all know, the demon dogs don't really grow after taming and stay at some mini-pet size. I took out my minipet olifant to show there is nearly no difference between these two - one being hunter pet, the other one companion.
Poof is one of the ghostly pets in game, and I like them. I tamed most of them at some point in the lifes of my several hunters and the only ones missing were the ghostly dogs. At first I was really disappointed by him. He looked quite grey in Karazhan and so small. He didn't grow after taming, I even think that he shrank, compared to the other dogs in the room. Next to my bulky Orc he really looks tiny but I wanted to give him a chance to proof himself.
At first I flew over to Hyjal to do my dailies with him and take some screenshots. I like how his color changed from a muddy grey to a creamy white in the daylight. I absolutely love his poofy (heehee) mane and his furry legs. He always seems to grin, that makes him look quite happy. In my last report (about the grey rhino) I complained about the red eyes. Poof also has red eyes, but they fit him, his ghostly appearance only gets better with red eyes. In some angles he doesn't look ghostly at all, at others he seems almost transparent. I like how he changes depending on the light.
Animations and sounds:
Poof has one of the cutest idle animations for hunter's pets. He does the happy puppy leap (top row, pic in the middle). He jumps in the air with his front paws like a puppy wanting a treat. I only caught him during the landing, but you can still see his happy face in it.
Sadly this does not make up for his lack of swimming animation. Seriously Blizz, you still have not been able to give pets a swimming animations that lack them? He is a dog, he should do a cute dog-paddle, but instead he just walks in the water, but at some abnormal speed without gaining much ground next to my swimming orc. This is just ridiculous. I'm glad Poof is so transparent in the water, that he is almost invisible so I won't have to look at him walking the water.
His sounds are ok. Lots of growling and yelping, but I think they fit him. He's such a tiny dog and I know tiny dogs want to make up their size with lots of growling and "grown-up-dog-behavior", Poof is no exception.
His running is nice. He makes himself quite flat, while stretching out his legs as wide as possible and galopping at Morga's side.
Fighting:
First I took Poof to my dailies with me. I usually do my dailies with one of my tanking pets or a spirit beast, so Poof was a new experience for me. His ability "Lock jaw" pins the target in one place (like the pin of a crab), that's not bad at first thought, but he has to channel it. So while Poof channels his ability I get aggro and if the mob is not dead by the time it comes out I have it chewing on my face. Then I noticed that Lock Jaw breaks, if you by accident click on Kill Command. As a Beasmaster KillCommand is in my normal use of rotation quite on top so I hit KillCommand usually the second when Poof started channelling. This helped him gain aggro, but the CD was lost... So I turned his ability off for the rest of the dailies. None of the rares were up so we were finished quite quickly (usually I try to rehome every rare I find). Poof did make nice damage, as he is ferocity, and once I had turned off his ability he even held aggro quite well. But I think I had to use a lot more "mend pet" on him than on my spirit beasts, although I specced him the same as them.
I totally forgot to take screenshots of him during fighint, but I think they wouldn't have come out great, because he usually seemed to disappear into the mob

So here are some pics I took in Orgrimmar fighting a dummy.
First pic shows his ability's animation. Looks like a warrior had just stomped on you, so same thing. His attacking ist the normal "lunge and bite" along with hitting with his right paw.
Then I decided to switch to my MM-skill for a battleground. I usually pvp as BM, but I didn't want to try out my dog and then switch to my spirit beast in the middle of the Bg because I like it better. So Bg as MM was actually quite fun. I only took a pic of Poof and Morga defending the tower, because during fights I totally forgot about screenshots, but well... I think Poof really did a great job. He annoyed one of the Nelf rogues to death I think, because she always died through my hands while Poof held her locked in place (thanks Poof). I only died twice and finished second (after a rogue) and Horde won with ease. After this Bg I really came to like Poof, because I had finally found a thing he really was useful for.
Conclusion:
I like Poof, despite my first impression he has grown on me. I think I'll keep him around a while and probably do some pvp in MM with him. Because of his small size he didn't get hit very often, I think my enemies mostly didn't even see him coming until it was too late. He is a cute little goofball and I love his happy puppy behavior.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]

Good side shot, and a pic of her biting her ass, which seems to be her idle animation. I think its hilarious:

Swimming and combat. Tried to get a good pic of her headbutting the mobs, which she does often, but she does it so fast that I gave up and took a general combat shot:

Sara and Nynaeve in Hyjal, of course:

All in all, very silly pet! Has really cute animations and as of now I'm keeping her. She is strangely bad at holding aggro for a ferocity pet, but makes up for it by being pretty resilient and having her Dustcloud ability, an aoe ability that makes all nearby enemies get a decrease in casting/attack speed. Pretty darn useful, even if she can't hold aggro worth a hoot. She's bright purple and her idle animation is biting her ass, which I thought was absolutely hilarious. I laughed out loud when I saw it. Tallstriders are worth a try. They do have a ton of personality.
