Adorkable New Pets :D

Unread post by Sarantha »

Found these guys on Petopia and thought they were just so silly and cute. Had to tame them. My first ever tallstrider, btw. Very entertaining pets!

Pretty names! I've been thinking of trying out a tallstrider. Maybe on my baby hunter! And I one of my best buddies has a toon named Severus :)

Tallstriders are the best! :D They have so much attitude and personality. I usually take them over a fox on my hunters. :D

I just tamed that tallstrider yesterday! :)

I love old world worms, although my worgen alt will probably tame a Jormungar. Have you ever tried the color-changing Dredge Worm? I am tempted to try it out one day.

Yeah. White and yellow are my favorite colors, with blue a close second. I REALLY want a blue worm, and will likely tame one if I don't bond well with the purple tallstrider. I really like her so far, but she's having trouble holding aggro, which is really odd for a ferocity pet.

It's not unusual at all for a ferocity pet to not hold aggro, especially if a hunter isn't BM. They don't really have any tank-like talents to help them keep aggro.

If you use a lot of Kill Command, it will help the pet to keep aggro, even if you should'nt be in BM. I had the same problem with my dog from the pet challenge, even after turning off his channelled ability, but Kill Command helped him a lot if I used it at the beginning of a fight.

Ah, I was still in MM while doing dailies when I used her because I had just came out of a BG, so that might have been the issue. I'll try her in BM spec and see if she does better that way. Her dustcloud is a pretty awesome ability. I like the fact that its aoe.

I just use they Glyph of Misdirect that resets the cd each time you MD to your pet. As long as you're in combat you can MD to your pets as much as you want. That plus the mend pet glyph are great for questing and solo'ing. Because of this I rarely take the Taunt talent for my tenacity pets. It's just not needed with the glyph. If you need to change it out to raid it's just the cost of a Dust of Disappearance. I keep a full stack at all times on both my raiding toons because I change glyphs out so much. But yeah, I pull off my ferocity pets a lot otherwise.

Aye, the glyph of MD is a good investment for soloing. It's even awesome for tanking bosses like Argoloth and the Argoloth lookalike in Sunwell because your pet can't get cleaved.

I was more pointing out that on their own, ferocity pets aren't meant to hold aggro and tank. It takes outside influence from the hunter (especially if you aren't BM). As a BM hunter all my pets suffice off a single kill command. I wouldn't recommend KC as SV though since that takes a fair amount of focus away from Explosive Shot, and more explosive shots mean the quicker a mob dies.

I didn't consider Sv - I mostly play in MM if I'm not in BM and like to use KC, especially when not in a dps-needing situation to help my pet.

Normally I wouldn't advocate KC for MM either because it means you're chewing up focus for AiS (unless you're playing as AS rotation), unless you picked up Resistance is Futile. However, I very rarely play MM.

My personal playstyle generally involves kill the mob in question as fast as possible and kiting if the pet can't hold aggro. Generally if I'm not BM I'm not overly concerned about my pet holding threat if I'm in a controlled situation. As a non BM hunter I find it's faster to just blast away at a mob then wait and hope that my pet retains aggro--which is why crocolisks/warp stalkers and even crabs are some of my favorite solo tanking pets.

But that's just me personally. :) I fully respect other people's playstyles.

I usually do my quests as a BM, so there is no trouble involved with aggro. But sometimes after I dungeon I forget to respecc and find myself as MM in a fight. Then I usually use KC (as it is on the Key normally intimidation ist on when in BM) and there you go aggro :D Seems to be a deeply buried reflex in me to hit intimidation when aggro... :headbang: And in a normal fight I prefer my pet to have the aggro instead of running around like a headless chicken (which is what I do if I get aggro), because I often forget about scattering shot in the panic of the moment.... Jeez I'm not used to have aggro.
Just to say: I don't have KC in my normal MM rotation, sometimes I just use it as a filler if I'm not in the mood for Arcane shot or the mob has reflect (like the boss in stone core).

I don't even have KC on my bars for my MM spec! Because I play both spec's, and raid with them both, I try to follow the proper shot priories for both spec's even when solo to avoid any confusion in a raid setting.

I am BM all the time, unless I am pvping. I can even pull off raid-worthy dps as BM. I've been BM since vanilla, and that will never change. I love the spec too much (and my pretty pets) to change. MM is the other spec I love too. And yes, my tallstrider did much better on aggro as BM. :D

Your first ever tallstrider? Welcome to the family. Once an adorable, silly tallstrider has you in it's talons you won't be able to let them go.

I adore tallstriders as well. Totally, completely, utterly love them. I am sad that they're changing their run animation in the next patch (unless that's changed since I was in the 4.3 forum?). Part of their charm is that goofy bobble-run.

They look like little bobble head birds. Except their entire body bobbles. While looking for a special worm in Dragonblight, I was running all over the cave with Nynaeve and kept laughing at the dumb way she was running!
