Wow. What a great voice. It's funny, actually, cause I grew up without a television and have never seen that video before, but his voice sounds so damn familiar...

Thanks for sharing, Roonok. :)

I'd like to go back about 20 years or so and be sitting in one of his classes; listening to him give a lecture..

Sarayana,

That was Carl Sagan... A mind I always enjoyed listening too... Carl had a wonderful way of looking at the world. I can almost hear the child like excitement in his voice re-watching cosmos. Truly a gift to the world.

You're welcome Rhyela. I knew that would suit you more than the war plane video

Oh, you guys might want to check out the website Symphony of Science. Most of them feature Carl Sagan.

The compilations are pretty catchy and I find them mesmerizing. "We are all connected" is probably my fave of the bunch. Enjoy!

Aye,

Have a copy of that the song... This one is great as well...

I cannot begin to tell you how much the show Cosmos impacted my life... Back in the early 80's I was a young teenager, living on a farm in the middle of no where. Rural, backwoods Virginia, at that time, was filled with religion and back breaking hard work. Neither promoted intellectual growth to be plainly honest, yet even as a child I was always curious. When Cosmos dawned on PBS I would sneak up onto the roof and manually turn our aged antenna towards their transmitter and scurry back into the house.

There in front of that old black and white television I would sit mesmerized for an hour listening to Carl explain the universe. Many hammers forged my soul in those early days, but none so much as Carl Sagan. From him, my young mind learned to question the world around me and look at the universe with different eyes. Strange how you can sometimes pick out moments in your life that so mark you forever. I always loved to read and explore, but Carl sparked my need to know, or at least investigate what I didn't understand, and to do it with an open mind and compassion. Even to this day, at 40, I try to look out into the world with fresh eyes and an open mind...

Thanks,

But, if you ever actually heard me... I have an awful, thick, Southern drawl... People always meet me and their first impression is, oww god, here comes another bible thumping redneck... Seriously, I've gotten that reaction all my life. Then I start using words larger than two syllables and their eyebrows perk up. Then I begin expressing my opinions about culture, the world, etc and their mouths drop open... My grown children say I " Think " to much lol... Like that's a bad thing lol.... :o

Last Sunday I loaded that up in my mp3 player and just walked outside. I have a towering Pin Oak in my backyard and just sat beneath it. Looking up through the branches I could see the sun light dancing off each leaf. Above that drifted huge, white clouds in a perfect blue sky. I sat there for hours just thinking about the sheer majesty of it all. How can anyone not simply marvel at the grandness, the scope of nature..?

Haha. Tell your kids that thinking is what propels human progress. ;P

Unfortunately our accents define us according to some poorly conceived stereotypes... I can have long conversations with people and the moment they hear my accent (it peeks through from time to time, particularly when I'm angry or drunk. What can I say?) I'm that "exotic" foreign student.... *sigh* It's nice to step outside the stereotypes from time to time though.
