Re: WoW 7th anniversary
Yep, companion would be nice. But I'm not complaining.
I think that it's their anniversary, not ours. When we come to someone's birthday party - we do not expect any gifts for coming.
Nobody even uses companions, I have never seen the companion bear from previous anniversary.
That would be nice of course, they've done it previously - so it wouldn't be a problem to give us a permanent gift instead of tabard which half of players won't be using.
So personally I don't really care.

Re: WoW 7th anniversary
yeah I was hoping for a nice new mini pet of some kind. the tabard is pretty lack luster, and really only suitable for leveling alts
makes me wonder if it was a because they didn't think of anything better till it was too late and the event was pretty much here

Re: WoW 7th anniversary
Eh I’m underwhelmed. I would like a pet more then a tabard and this tabard kinda cheats everyone. It cant be used (and I assume vanishes) after Dec 3rd so those who log in don’t even get to keep it/use it/show it off after the month is over. It also looks just like the contest winner’s tabard. Which is an extremely rare no longer obtainable tabard. So not only do those winners (if they are even still around) get nothing new, everyone else gets a clone of what they have. (Which is probably why it’s not permanent.) The rep bonus is nice and I plan to use it and I’m all for free stuff but it feels like minimal through went into it.

I must say I was underwhelmed. I've been with wow since original beta. We give to them (money) as much as they give to us (content). Their package only really benefits new players and alts.

o.o I actually see the little bear out a LOT. And the onyxian whelp sometimes too. I love my own. The main reason they might not be as widespread as some might think is because at this moment, other than spending money on a server transfer... they're STUCK on whatever server you were playing on that year. And I have several servers that have been my "main" server since then.Gayia wrote: Nobody even uses companions, I have never seen the companion bear from previous anniversary.
That said though, I do agree with the rest of your comments, in that it's WoW's birthday... not ours. That said.. at b-days you DO usually get cake <.< WHERE'S MY CAKE!

Re: WoW 7th anniversary
They mentioned last year that they want the minipets to be saved for milestone numbers, or something to that effect, so this didn't come as a surprise to me. I guess the tabard's kinda useful. I still prefer minipets though.

I honestly prefer minipets, but this will be nice for when I am farming Cenarion Expedition Rep. I remember getting my Onyxian Whelpling. It was cute, and I think I am one of the only people in my guild who has it.

Re: WoW 7th anniversary
I'm not surprised. They said after year 5 they wanted mini pets to mark the mile stone numbers. That means they won't have a new one till the 10 year mark, assuming WoW reaches it.
As for this year's "present", I think it's pretty lack luster if you're a long term vet like me that has every heirloom item available. But, outside of mini pets, there aren't many options I guess. Honestly though, I don't really care that much.

I beg to differ on the companions bit. I use my baby blizzard bear A LOT.Gayia wrote:Yep, companion would be nice. But I'm not complaining.

Re: WoW 7th anniversary
It's a nice bonus, and free stuff is always nice and appreciated.
However it would be even nicer still, if they'd either A) make the 1hr duration game time instead of real time, or else B) take a page from the book of Day of the Dead and up the duration to something nice and long like 12 hours. As someone whose gaming tends to get interrupted frequently, about half the time I turn in a quest I'm like "oh snap - forgot to renew that anniversary buff first"

Re: WoW 7th anniversary
I understand milestones and what not and I know alot of people are thinking its just selfish for us to expect mini pets each time but in the end, the end would justify the means. I know a few people who would have resubbed for a mini pet so that would be $15.00 extra for blizzard. It would have been smart business wise, it would keep the paying customers happy and I dont see much difference as to why they wouldnt though they do like putting mini pets in the Wow blizzard store. Its $10 for a guardian cub thats a one time use, Wow anniversary you still have to be playing to get it so thats $15.00 essentially for it. Even if people were going to stay anyways keeping your customers happy is essential for Wow to reach the next milestone. Especially with the new MMO coming out and Diablo 3 in the works. A happy customer is a paying customer
Especially since one of the things they were really excited about coming the next expansion pack is the mini pet combat

I didn't mind it not being a minipet this year, but now that you mention it, yes, that would have made a pretty cool tie-in with the upcoming pet battles system...Sasrei wrote:Especially since one of the things they were really excited about coming the next expansion pack is the mini pet combat

Re: WoW 7th anniversary
Every year they've been in buisness should be a milestone. Games dont have the long life spans as companies who sell material items to the public, games wear out and die, material companies dont. There are restaurants who have existed for well over a century. The Hudsons Bay Company (and whatever the other one was that died from spreading out too far) have been around for what, a century, a century and a half? WoW wont make that many milestones i can definitely say that. Every year a game is still in successful buisness is a big thing, and whenever they hit a milestone year (5 years, 10 years, 15 years) thats when they should do something AMAZING to THANK US for keeping the game alive. It might be their birthday but WE KEPT THEM ALIVE. Blizzard may of birthed WoW but we are the ones who supported them, who fed them. We are their lifeblood and without us they would not exist as a game but instead as a dream and material items like printed cardboard, artistic sculptures, posters who only exist out there because they are an artistic expression, are in some way valuable, and a source of income in places where people are willing to buy them.

Re: WoW 7th anniversary
I only wish that this year's gift wasn't a temporary thing that will disappear once the birthday period ends. I like the idea of keeping a memento, regardless of what it is, past the due date. Like if all we got to keep was the tabard this year, I'd be fine with it. Tangible reminders that we were here are good.
Edit to clarify that I wouldn't even want the tabard to retain the bonus or anything; just some sort of tangible keepsake would be nice.

Re: WoW 7th anniversary
Its in my opinion, that technically they wouldn't be having anniversaries at all if it wasn't for us...now if this tabard was permanent I more then likely wouldn't complain as much. But otherwise...it just isn't that special for people who've already leveled high on their main characters, or have all the rep they want or need, ect ect. And this is coming from someone who levels MANY alts.
The rep and extra xp is nice. But... Blizzard, I am disappoint.

Re: WoW 7th anniversary
I use the white blizzard cub companion a lot. Every time my husband pulls out his blue proto drake (that I've been trying to get for several months now), I pull out my little white cub (that he will never get and wants
). The cub reminds me of my favorite white bear - Coke Cola's bear.
There was no creativity invested in the 'birthday gift' which is what made it the most disappointing. If they made them account bound and they maintained their abilities, it might be worth it because you could use it even on your 85's when expansions came out and pass it to alts as you created them!
