Starting to lose interest....

Unread post by SpiritBinder »

Just a random combination of thoughts really.

I love this game, I really really do, but lately I just feel my interest is waning.

I'm not sure weather it's the new shininess that MOP may possibly offer us. The promise of balance and issues that have plagued us for so long being resolved. The fact that the grass could be so green on the other side, but we now just have to wait over here in the weeds until we can cross over in MOP.

Or the state of my dps atm, that only seems to be scaling worse compared to everyone in my raid. I feel so useless atm on my hunter (my only main/85 toon). I read so many forums in the hope to see a buff or find a way to compete better with the dps in my raid and at pvp, but it's all so horribly bleak atm. And it's not just people screaming the sky is falling or my spec sucks, etc. It's really good hunters, posting logs, clean clear evidence, and are in strong progression guilds and they are hanging up their guns and bows and re-rolling. They are saying the whole class is shot to shit. We have poor dps, take the most damage of any class, and yet have not one utility that can not be performed better that anyone else to even try and make up for it.

I don't need to be on the top of dps, but competitive, in the middle would be just fine. I don't want to be a liability to my raid, I want to be an asset. I feel like I'm only there atm because I fill 2 missing buffs that they can't find elsewhere.

Maybe it's just simply the fact now our guild has ganked DW, that now this expansion kinda feels like it's done? I just don't know.

Out side of raiding I still find myself thinking.... ok 5 dailies for DMF are done, what next? Maybe try and dig up those last few ache things... again.... that I've been doing since the start of the expansion...?
Or keep looking for camel figures.. again.... that I've been doing since the start of the expansion...?
Or Yay, run Vortex or Stonecore for mounts... again.... that I've been doing since the start of the expansion...?
(Even if there was a new mount achievement (I used to liked collecting them) it would not even matter as I'm past 150, I've already got it, I don't know why I'm even trying to get any more.)

That's it, I cant think of much else :| If not for a 2 ppl that I see/hangout with on wow that I really like, this game.... is starting to lose interest.

I know 4.3 only just hit and it's got some great new features..... but is anyone else felling a little... lost for direction? :?

*raises hand*

In fairness, I think I'm over MMOs in general, at least the endgame scene.

It's too bad too. The LFR setup is ideal for casual raiding - which I'm completely fine with. But unfortunately, it comes too late, as the spark has worn away. I just can't muster the interest in the little things anymore and many of my friends don't play so much anymore, so there's fewer and fewer reasons to stay.

We're working on Deathwing in my 10m right now (as I type this), but the raid already feels like old hat after LFRing it multiple times prior to this....and this is the second week. With a bunch of people in this raid doing hard modes in other raids on other characters, motivation to really push is down. So...yeah, not much point anymore. My rbgs group is dead, so I barely play outside of raiding.

We've just...grown apart.

I had to take a break for a while because I started feeling the same way. And in fact, I didn't plan on ever coming back. I got soooooo sick of end-game stuff.

I did start to miss the hunter class after a while, though, so after several months I came back. I just run around on alts now, or plod about on Rhyela. It's nice not worrying about raids, not caring about progression. It all started to feel like a job. I want to play the game after a long day at work to relax and unwind, not work even more.

So, maybe, like many other things, we just need to take a break for a while and try out other things.

I wish you both luck in whatever it is you decide to do.

Lately .............. for me ...................... it's not a loss in interest of the game itself. Just so sick of questing and grind to level lower level toons. Even now I have this sense of dread because I love ALL of my girls so much and still love the game I just cannot stomach going and questing away my time to get them up and do the same exact quests I've done since 04 pretty much. Both of my main's are 85 and have done most of the cata content questing. I have my two 80's who are stuck in limbo and other girls at lower levels. I love the game. Love to play. But so sick and losing interest in doing the same quests yet again for the umpteenth time.

I've been playing from early vanilla, and when I think about it rationally it does start to feel depressing... so I'll step away for a few days, and sure enough the little things start to interest me again, and before I know it I've made 5 levels on toon X, gotten transmog item Y for toon Q, etc etc.

Probably because on some very simply, non-logical level, wow fills a need in me. Not exactly sure what, but definitely something.

Ofc things like transmogs, reforging, upcoming xpacs (even though I know the basic formula by heart, like everyone else) help a lot too...

I guess what I'm saying is, for me personally, my continuing interest in wow requires that I just let it be, without trying to analyze my likes / dislikes too closely.

But that may not work for the next person, ofc.

Either way, I hope you stay with it Spiritbinder but I'll certainly understand if you think it's time for something new. :)

I know what you mean, and that's pretty much how I feel too. :) I've also been playing WoW since early vanilla, and I've had an active subscription since day 1. There's certainly stale periods, especially in the downtime between expansions, but I always find I have something to do, something to work for, and more alts to roll. ^^ My guild raids 3 days a week, so it's enough to be fun and progress but not to the point of being stressful or feeling burned out on. My interest hasn't declined yet, and as long as I'm having fun I'll continue to play.

If you feel like the game isn't fun anymore then I'd definitely say take a break, perhaps a hiatus until MoP comes out? It might give you a chance to do some other things for a while, and when you return to a new expansion it'll feel fresh and exciting again.

I've been away from the game for a bit over a month now, and truth be told i was just ready to be done with that game (getting ready to move onto SWTOR next week). A few times though in the past week I have thought about coming back to run those new dungeons, try the LFR out, etc. But in all honesty it'll be the same after a couple weeks again.

But yeah if you feel like it, take a break for a month. Try other MMO's, other PC games, xbox etc... it'll be a nice break even if you come back to the game come Jan 1st.

I'm pretty much entering a dead period. I don't want to give up on WoW, but I just have lost interest. I still attend my guilds raids and I still run heroics sometimes. Most of what I've been doing on WoW is either loitering or PvPing. I dislike leveling alone, but I never really get anyone interested in a leveling partner. Plus, I'm tired of questing. I'd love something new for a change. Sure I could try leveling an Alliance alt, but at the end of the day, it's still the same old WoW. Not even Mists of Panadari has caught my attention. I barely even have interest in RP there anymore!

I've started playing the SC2 campaign and it's been fun (A little frustrating at times. XD). I've even been playing it on online with a friend against the AI casually. As far as MMOs go, I'm looking at Guild Wars 2. It's the one that now has caught my interest.

NEW SIGNATURE PENDING... SOON.

I've been losing interest in WoW steadily over the last few months. I'm not real fond of the direction Blizzard's taking the game, and after making so many alts, leveling and questing was getting old too. I hate doing dungeons because I despise the people you find in LFG (I know not everyone's bad, but I've gotten enough bad apples to turn me off the system). It started getting to a point where I was only logging in to raid with my guild.

I was doing semi-okay with this, I was still bored with the game, but I liked being with my guild mates, until I got into the SW:TOR beta. I had been feeling pretty meh about SW:TOR until I got my hands on the game. It was everything I needed apart from WoW and made me realize just how bored of WoW I was. My account is now shut off and I'm not regretting it. While I wait for SW:TOR to release I've discovered a new love for City of Heroes and also play League of Legends as I wait for SW:TOR's release.

It probably doesn't help when you have a few uncontrollable factors at once, affecting your play quality and time. Not that that's everything, but it could be just the final straw. :(

Myself I'm still eager to do things, though less stressed now that LFR has allowed me to see the end of the Deathwing storyline (LFR is amazing for that... even people who aren't normally into raiding can at least see the culmination of the story in what amounts to little more than a big LFD run).

I'm still eager to complete old stuff, get mount achievements etc. but since I cut ties with my guild I'm less able to just call on people for help (not that many of them were very helpful if it didn't result in new gear for their 5th alts) and it's hard to find other people who're interested in that. So often I feel stifled and that's probably the one thing that makes me less likely to play. I just tend to have the game backgrounded while I do other stuff.
