Good Places To Post Writing? Good Blogs?

Unread post by Talaridan »

What are some good places to post stories/writing? I know I can put some up here, but what are some other sites?

I have some stories I want to write and put up to share and get critiques on, but I'm not really sure where to do that. They would be Warcraft 'Fanfictions' with original characters (aside from the occasional possible brief cameo). They might be somewhat 'mature' (not sexual so much as gore/violence) so I want to make sure I put them in a place that is allowed.

Any suggestions are helpful! :)

Good question, and one I hope someone has an answer too. I write and had made a Facebook page to post some tidbits, but after reading their tos I decided not to go that route. Facebook claims ownership of whatever gets posted, and that's just too iffy for me. I hope someone posts a site that i can feel safe posting my work on!.:)

DeviantArt is probably your best bet, they mainly focus around photography/visual arts but many people post poetry and written works there.

Fanfiction.net is your best bet actually.

There are different subsections for different games, you can flag it as any rating and post it chapter by chapter. People can comment on it, you can also send private messages to members for more critique, and people can subscribe so they get notified every time you update it.

Fantastic site.

Hmm, I might try Fanfiction.net.

I'm sort of nervous about DeviantArt. I hear they have a lot of issues with people making creepy accounts (like with inappropriate pictures to spam them) and viruses.

I've never had any negative experiences with dA, and I've been using it for around five years. But I have heard some nasty stories other people have experienced. The only thing with dA is that because there are so many people and so many art pieces it's hard to get noticed.

Same here, I do majority of my writing, and the Sigs I make, I make them there.

Kind of going off of this with DA...I haven't had any issues yet, although occasionally I like to browse the front page of new art. And on the page was a picture of...well...something extremely explicit, and quite frankly, unnecessary to be on the site (no, it definitely didn't qualify as nude art, I actually like real nude art). I went to the user's page to try and report them because they were uploading the picture into every category they could and just trolling people who commented on their page telling them to stop. I was upset that there doesn't seem to be a report option (or I'm just really dumb and overlooked it).

As for viruses and such...if there were any risk of using DA my bf wouldn't let me go near the site. Any potential viruses you get probably wouldn't be from DA itself so much as clicking on links or ads through the site.

I would also advise using fanfiction.net if you're looking for a site that focuses more closely on writing. :)

Just did a look cos you got my attention and you just go here and click report spammer. Thou I think people troll that seeing as I have had notes from mods about certain pics
The only nasty story I have heard about DA was um forgot her name she was on here um lilatha? Korooooo I think being spamed by that art theft person. Saying she was one etc. Seems that theres alot of those types.

Viruses? Heck you shouldnt need to worry about those even if they did have them if you have good anit virus softwear.

Hmmm, maybe I'll poke around DeviantArt. I haven't really had any problems, but a few friends have mentioned issues.
