Strange Illness in pets

Unread post by Bulletdance »

Hey guys.
I'm really worried about my pets and maybe even my parents at this point. About 5 months ago my family moved to a farm-like area, but I got realllly sick there and decided it was best to move out. Sadly I had to leave my 3 cats behind since my new place doesn't allow cats. Just before I left my youngest cat passed away. I was finding bloody cat pee and she was in a lot of pain so I took her to the vet and she had to be put down. It was really devastating since I had her ever since she was born. They told me it was likely cancer. Now last month I got a call from my parents and found out her mother Sushi passed away too. She was a fairly young cat,but had the same problem so I figured it was genetic. Now today I got a call from my mother saying she found more bloody pee, but they don't know where it came from and there was so much it could even be the family golden retriever. None of their two cats or my remaining cat Buttercup are related so I'm really worried. I'm starting to think it may be something in the water or in the air out there. All our pets have had regular vet care and were inside animals mainly. I'm just not sure how likely it is for three animals to have the same problem.

They are getting older, but its very strange to me. Im going to speak to a vet about it tuesday. Do you guys think its odd too? I figured it'd be a good idea to get some opinions on it or maybe someone here knew a little bit about that kinda stuff.

I think it sounds odd. All my five kittens got sick at the same time, which I found odd, but we never found the cause for it. Perhaps there is something strange about the place your parents and the animals live.

Blood in the urine can be a sign of many different things but one of the most common in cats is urinary tract infections. Just like in a human these infections can become extremely severe when left untreated, cause sepsis of the organs and blood then they pass away. To me, that sounds more like what it could be. I'm not vet (former Vet Tech) but the signs to me are there. Severe UTI's in animals can very easily be husbandry related. In cats it's from unclean litter boxes usually and dogs it's can be from them not cleaning properly and yes being forced to hold it to long or not having a clean place to "do their business" or the living conditions themselves can be poor or improper.
This IS NOT to say that your family is keeping them poorly or they're living in dirty conditions. Just stating possible causes.

Regardless the animals need to be checked out before this mysterious illness may claim another loved companion. Wishing you the best.

Hmm, well they have one litter box downstairs, one in the garage, and two upstairs all cleaned weekly. At least they were when I was there helping I'll have to ask my parents about it and suggest they get them tested for UI infections it might be that. Luckily the vet they have up there seems pretty good maybe there is something he can do.

What sort of illness did you have while there? It certainly is strange, and I'd be worried too.

That's what has me worried. I know the previous owner collapsed and nearly died of a mold infection though it was at least a month after they moved and they claim its fromt heir apartment, but I have my doubts. Aparantly they also had animals and let them go all over the house. My parents told horror stories of ripping up rugs and what was under them, but suposedly they treated all the floors with special paint and stuff and re did them. They also have well water and it was tested as fine, but I tend to think anything the farmer uses onthe field behidn the house may get in there.

As for me I'm deathly allergic to mold have asthma and am missing half a lung due to a bad lung surgery for a sponatinous lung collapse. I'm usually fine I've only used my inhaler about once in my life. There though I couldn't sleep at night since I couldn't breathe. An allergist said it was due to the mold in the farm behind the house and siad i'd be better off elsewhere though my immune system took a hit so maybe not as good as I was before there. I would get dizzy all the time so much so driving became too dangerous. I was constantly tired. Moving solved a lot of the problems, but things got bad a few month ago when my entire left side and right leg went numb and I was rushed to the hospital. They really don't know why yet and say I have something called fybromialgia and a syst on the brain which is harmless mostly, but causes migranes. So it's been a really rough year especially with losing my cats on top of everything. I know my mom hasn't been feeling well lately, but she doesn't tell me everything as to why or what is going on.

I was thinking mold too as Teigan said, and after the things you listed..it really does sound like mold, I would STRONGLY reccommend having a professional come test the house. If there's a mold infestation you really need to find it and deal with it as the house will be unsafe for your pets and your family.

Get a professional in there ASAP.
All your symptoms sound exactly like mold and it can be fatal if people or animals are exposed for too long.

Tell your family to get out of there until you've got tests run on the house. It's just not worth it to wait it out.
