I'm very much on the "taking turns" boat on this.

I got my Ban'thalos after sitting on said tree for about a week or so and logging in every now and then. Eventually I saw him up when I logged and a mage was trying to kill it with slow fall and what have you. He failed to pull Ban'thalos all the way down and the mob reset while the mage went out of range. I placed my trap, pulled and tamed. Got called a ninja because of it. *shrug*

I do not support killing a player or their tame if they are already in progress of taming. Or killing the player and taming the mob yourself if they were there first and already engaged. However, if the player is let to attempt their tame and they fail on it on their own and the mob resets, then I think it's fair game to whoever engages it first.

If it is a contested tame, or someone else tried it and failed, I will wait my turn, but i will take my turn. I wont interfere if someone else is already taming it, but if they die (such as the challenge tames), then the mob resets and I get a chance.

I have received whispers about ninja taming a Banny. One hunter tried it, failed. Banny reset, I landed on the tree, did the tame correctly, and got it.

I told him, politely, that he got his turn first and I didn't interfere. After his turn, I took my turn. He did not get two turns in a row (and had I failed, neither would I). I have lost pets due to goofing up the tame. Ankha is one is one example, ZOMG NPC SCAN IS BLARING! *land, tame, 2 shot* and I dont despise the hunter for taming it right after I died, I congratulate them, and thank them for not interrupting my attempt (as doomed as it was).

Personally, I feel that as long as you give the other person a chance and don't directly affect their fail, then you have every right to it. Unfortunately we cannot wait all day for someone to fail time and time again. If they blow their chance, there's not much you can do for them (unless it's a tame where you can actually help, and even then you're not required to do so). /shrug

If it's a Molten Front challenge tame, I give them 3-5 tries and then try for myself.
If they don't want it, I'll tame it.
If they say they're "holding" it for a friend I'll probably tame it, since said person isn't there.
If it's a regular click and tame pet, they can have it if they saw it first.

I also try to think about just how much I want the pet-- if it's something that I haven't been after and camping for, I'll help someone tame it.
I pretty much do that...except for the first one. I'll alter what I do for number 1.

The first Ban'thalos tame I had was a confused mess. I had found him flying around do tried to get in the tree, kept failing, and lost my target on him so I flew back over to catch sight of him again and foud him on the ground with an enemy shaman and warrior who were going to kill him. I started to tame, they swapped to me and I died as the tame ended. As it turns out another hunter ad been trying to tame and was killed by the alliance, and I had gotten to him right after. I felt horrible, but we both knew Ban'thalos would have died otherwise. I sent the other hunter some gold and an engi rabbit pet with a note of apology and he was super cool about it all and did end up taming Ban'thalos shortly after. That is te only experience I have with anything remotely similar :3

i must submit my skarr is a slight ninja tame.. well i was in league with four other hunters at that moment who all wanted several of the new pets.. unfortunatly my camping friend had logged of about 4-5 minuts before the spawn. there was a hunter there who had been camping for skarr but he didn't know how and died 9 times... after that i decided to ask wether i could give it a shot, he agreed and i got my skarr :/

I'll be honest here. I have killed rares (beasts and humanoids) just because they're there and I can, no matter the level. Heck, I've slain Humar the Pridelord lots of times (after the respawn timer went down to 6 hours(~?), however). But I've NEVER slain a rare if there was someone already there who I could tell or even thought that they knew it was there and had the intent of killing or taming it (however if it was around my level that I could get exp from it, and it was just a rare they planned on killing as in a humanoid, I'd say whoever gets it, gets it, and get over it).

I agree with most of Xakaal's post, though. I guess in a way the first part of my post negates the first part of their post, haha, so I only say most :)

I rolled on a PVP server, that implies that you are subject to getting owned at any given moment by me on a whim. I'll openly admit that I killed a Night-Elf Hunter mid tame of Sambas when I was circling around Twighlight Highlands for roughly 7hours. They may have been doing the same on the same path which is why we never crossed in the process, they also may have been there longer and frankly...I really didn't care because 7 hours is 7 hours regardless. I killed said Night-Elf Hunter and Tamed Sambas on her corpse while she didn't release and watched me do it. I'm aware that on these forums in particular I'm considered Scourge of Society and I'm willing to accept that. I guess it's the decade+ of playing M.U.D.s and M.u.c.k.s on Telnet that all of them had Open PVP where players could loot EVERYTHING you have and people did. It was so common that no one raged about it or anything, it's the name of the game. It's the same on PVP servers. I've just never had it happen to me yet and it wont ever happen, not only because I'm a goddamn beast at PVP but because my stables is full of all the RareElites/Uniques you could think of.

Tl;dr. I do it, I don't care and I'm a goddamn bauce.

What the hell's a bauce? Is that code for 'I think I'm awesome at pvp because I kill people while they're petless and taming which has about the same challenge level as pushing over a toddler'?

Oh well. /golf clap

Hate to tell you but you haven't had it happen to you because PvP servers do have a thing called "etiquette" aka "manners". Since you didn't learn that, you're not 'bauce'. Good job /golf clap

Agreeing with Jess.

I rolled a PVP server. Only times Ive ever stolen a tame from someone is if the other player acted just like you, MajorThor. And rolling a PVP server doesnt make you "bauce" at PVP either. Ugh. "Bauce" Really? Im nearing 27 and I still want to clean your mouth out with soap.

I hope Karma kicks you in the ass eventually for stealing that poor NE's Sambas tame. =( I feel sorry for'er. Just because you CAN do something because a game allows you to, doesn't mean you SHOULD. Its just plain rude. And its this sort of mentality that ruins the game for so many other players.

In all seriousness, if people don't want to get killed in an Open-World scenario then they'd roll on PVE servers where you have the manually flag yourself FOR Open-PVP, it's just a risk everyone takes in rolling on a PvP oriented server and everyone is aware of it. I mean, what's the point in even playing on a PvP server if you're not going to partake in PvP or cry about it when it happens?

PvP on a PvP server = great. That's what it's for.

^ This x 9000

Killing that night elf that was there first is about as honorable as camping starting zones(before there were guards) and killing lowbies because you can. Last I checked, what you did is even frowned upon on PvP servers(atleast amongst most hunters).
