Ghostcrawler - a few random thoughts

Unread post by Worba »

I leveled my female dwarf Gunhilde to 74 in order to tame Arcturis - and once I accomplished that, I decided her next goal would be to make 85 and tame Ghostcrawler... well I got lucky and found him on my 2nd try (w00t), however I'm on the fence about whether it was worth it. He looks pretty cool, the problem (for me), is that unlike Arcturis, who is huge at 85, Ghostcrawler is smaller than actual crab pets.

You can see for yourself below - it's not a huge difference, but for a "species" that's short to begin with, crabs really can't afford any further loss of stature, imo...

Also, on the matter of taming him. I personally was a little nervous about this, based on things I'd heard (not necessarily here), so here's a couple observations for those who haven't yet gone after this one:

1) "He teleports and it takes forever to find him again". On my first tame attempt, I clicked the wrong button and had to FD reset (yes it's been that long since I last tamed anything "tough"), and then had to take some time food healing - so he had a decent head start on me (like 30 seconds or so). I simply headed off in the direction I'd last seen him going, and a few seconds later caught up to him. So basically he's like a traveling warp stalker, e.g. - if he disappears, just give him a few seconds and he should be back. Worst case - even if you somehow completely lose him, his territory is very small, and he is the only living thing in it, so...

2) "He hits incredibly hard and can kill you before you complete the tame". Well he did about 60k to me before the tame completed, so he does hit hard (about as hard as Terrorpene w/o fire resist) - and he chews right through deterrence... however by the time you're high enough to tame him, your stamina will be high enough just from quest greens to see you through with a decent safety margin.

So in short - he's not a hard tame or a trick tame... he's just ... small. -.-

I actually prefer pets with a low profile. Ghostcrawler, along with Loque and Skoll, is in my spirit beast top 3.

My only complaint with Ghostcrawler is just that from a distance he is just a glob of blue glow. I see other hunters with him and you can't honestly tell he is a crab.

Well he has mist like some of the other spirit beasts, but also rising sparkles, so yeah it the combination does make him very glowy.

Personally I don't find it detail-obscuring though - I rather like his glowiness in fact.

But to each his / her own - one person's gripe is the next person's positive! ^ ^

I love that Ghostcrawler blows little bubbles.

He is a bit smaller, but still a pretty large pet! I do wish he was a bit more easy to see from a distance. He does kind of 'melt' into a blue blob. :(
