Thinking of making a RP character...but got some questions..

Well, yes. Here I am, the great meep, as my friends call me, (No, seriously...my friends call me that XD), thinking of making a RP character. This has been floating in my mind for about... a month or so. But I've been busy with other real life things, and so forth. Well.. to put it in a short and simple way, I have a few questions for people on RP servers. I apologize if this is the wrong section.

Should I be worried about finding a guild?

I'm wondering this because I'm normally never that social on new servers. I like different types of RPs, like Kingdom, Post Apocalyptic, and more of "adventure" RPs, that me and my friends do. I have RPed on many different platform games, but my most active, being a game called Feralheart.

Literacy.

I have been put up with the most literate people in some RPs. My RPing style is like this:
Vivalina padded back and forth through the halls, waiting for him. Her ears shone a bright red, and fingers were curled. She knew that she wasn't going to escape this time, but she didn't want to. She would be able to finish off this... "assassin" once and for all.
Honestly, I have no clue about the literacy for RPs. Could anyone define on what should or shouldn't be used?

Do you need to be a certain level before you can be allowed into certain RPs?

Yeah...this is what worries me. I honestly do like leveling via quests, but DF is faster. But back to the topic, will certain guilds not let you RP in a RP, if say you are level... 46? Random question I know... but yeah.


These are just a few of the things floating around in my head. I do like RPing, but those 3 are the most confusing imo. Anyone who could help, would be lovely. Thank you ahead of time.

Guilds
-I wouldn't *worry* much, but guilds are very useful and I suggest seeking one out. There will be lots of RP guilds recruiting on an RP server, and just asking on trade what RP guilds they recommend can work well. However, it's more than possible to get a nice RP niche without a guild, it just may be slightly more challenging.

Literacy
-Your style looks fantastic. You may want to limit how much you say what your character is thinking, however, and instead try to show that through actions. Other characters can't read your character's mind, but they can see how they act and infer from that. Other than that, looks great- very high quality and probably a joy to RP with. Note that in-game you can act out a lot through actual character movements instead of text.

Level
This hardly ever matters. It's hard to take a level 3 seriously if they're acting as, say, an Arch Druid, but in general, level means very little. It does mean that RP out of cities might get a little dangerous, though- you don't want a passing monster to kill you. xD

Thank you Lupis I think if I DO make a RP character in the near future, I'll probably keep on my own till I reach say... level 20 when I get a mount..heh..

Guilds - Not much to worry about long as you do your research

Literacy - You've nothing to worry about. You're fine.

Level - It matters a little bit. Especially if you're a DK. Usually if you're level 10+, or 70+ for DKs, you'll be okay.

Whether you use past or present tense in your emotes is up to you, but I suggest present tense. It's what all the NPCs and most of players use.

Yes, getting a mount is a fantastic idea. Not only are you then safe in more zones, but being able to move faster is a big deal. It also allows you to wear different armor and lets players know that you've put some effort into your character.

I'm assuming you have a roleplay addon like Myroleplay ready to go?

Oh, worgen death knights are a toughie. I'm gonna repost what I told starkittens about worgen death knight backstories:

Worgen death knight timelines are just about impossible to puzzle out. From what I can tell, this is where worgen death knights come from:

1. The citizens of Pyrewood village are experimented on by Arugal many years before the Cataclysm (maybe 10?) and are turned into barely sentient worgen
2. Some of them are mysteriously sentient (just like the later Gilnean worgen that endured chemical treatment and went through a ritual to pacify their animal rage) and escape from Arugal's control
3. Somehow, some of the escapees are captured and/or slain by the Scourge around 2-3 years ago
4. They're raised into the Lich King's service and fight in his army, side-by-side among the other death knights
5. Most current-generation death knights are freed from the Lich King's grasp
6. Strangely, the death knight worgen disappear and no one mentions them existing
7. The whole of Wrath of the Lich King's story happens. Arthas is killed and the Scourge is pretty much dissolved into a few packs of cultists and roaming undead. Still no word from the death knight worgen
8. Cataclysm happens, suddenly death knight worgen conveniently reappear!

The whole thing's a mess, packed with headache-inducing retcons. Not your fault, just the game's fault how it tried to clumsily explain how worgen death knights were made. If I were you, I'd just leave most of your worgen's history either forgotten or never talked about.

It's very hard to follow the existing lore and timeline with one.

She was once a human girl, living along the outskirts of Stormwind. She was training to be a knight untill the scourge invaded stormwind (wrath event), and she was captured by the scourge. Instead of being killed, Arthas kept her, and made her a slave. One day, she was bitten by a infected worg, that one of the death knights had as a former pet, and the infection spread. The day that she was suppoused to be hung, then reanimated, she turned. Dark fur, and silvery blue eyes. After they hung her, she was said to be reanimated.
(then blah blah, dk questline, comes back to SW, becomes alliance, blah blah)
It was really something made up in 10 minutes. I couldve done better, though.

The problem with the DK quest line is that it takes place in WotLK's time era, a time in which you technically wouldn't be able to complete the quest line because worgen would have been killed on sight trying to enter Stormwind. It's almost impossible to make a worgen DK story work with the quests you're given in game. I barely managed it by saying that my worgen DK remained at Acherus hold, becoming a DK trainer, and then once the Cataclysm happened and worgen were grudgingly accepted into the Alliance, he ventured out for the first time.

It's best to not have your character get any special attention from major characters. Arthas's personal slave is way too much. Plain old worgs don't pass on the curse, either. Also, keep in mind that 2-3 years elapsed from the death start zone to the present day Cataclysm.

I'd suggest revising it. I'm not trying to be rude, I just want to help. People may give you grief over not having a lore-abiding backstory, and it's easiest to fix it early, instead of later, when you've grown attached and told others the story.

oooh! add meh! Random rp ish always welcomed. My druid is kind of wary around DKs but gives them a chance. Jessi...she accepts any worgen so your DK would be fine. Lisa would just be utterly curious, yes yes. x3

Since most of your previous concerns and questions seem to be, for the most part, answered, I figured I'd throw my hat into the ring with a suggestion.

Mind you, I'm only going by your RP snippet as an example, so if it doesn't apply then feel free to ignore this next tidbit.

I've known many people who've come to RP in WoW after participating in other RP arenas (Be it MU*, MUCKs, LARPS, AIM/Forum, etc...) that emote in past tense. When RPing in-game, it's generally encouraged to keep emote responses in the present tense.

That's my only suggestion! Have fun RPing!
