Lunar Festival coin rep - bug

Unread post by Worba »

Another issue I've encountered which I know is not unique, is the matter of "Horde" rep not actually applying to all horde factions, when I first noticed it, everything was already above honored, but not moving - except TB which was friendly. After a bit of research I found a blue post where they claimed these +75 rep gains were intended to only take you to friendly 5999/6000, and so while I was unhappy about it, the description did seem to (sort of) fit the issue I was seeing, and I let it go.

But then lo and behold my TB rep not only passes into honored from coin rep, but it keeps on going, repeatedly increasing even though it was now well above honored. Whilst the others stubbornly refused to budge.

In light of this I have to amend my earlier opinion as this can be nothing other than a bug, and the talk of a 5999/6000 cap sounds more like doubletalk from someone hoping to pass it off as "working as intended" when in fact that is not the case - if it was working as intended, we would stop getting the "you have gained 75 horde reputation" messages once you hit 5999/6000, same as what happens when you hit 999/999 exalted in dungeons whilst wearing a faction tabard.

It's really annoying because my #1 motive for doing this was to get rep with Darkspear Trolls (the lantern was the secondary motive, but wouldn't have been enough by itself).

So I opened a ticket - I figure even if there's only a 5% chance the GMs A) can and B) will restore the rep I'm due, if I don't ask it's a guaranteed 0%. :P

I don't understand why Blizzard has taken this stance; would it really be so horrible to allow holiday faction rep to take racial reps all the way to exalted?

This is because the Horde (and Alliance) is a different, hidden reputation. You cannot see it in game or on the armory. It is linked to the other horde/alliance reps to a certain extent, but how it is linked I'm not sure. You can find the hidden rep by doing this macro:

Code: Select all

/run SetWatchedFactionIndex(49)
The number at the end of the macro will be different for everyone based on which reps you have discovered. You need to play with it to find your Horde reputation.[/color]

Ok, yes, for technical reasons, behind the scenes they added hidden factions for horde and alliance, and set them to have 100% spillover into the subfactions. Programming-wise that would be simpler than having to individually modify every single horde / alliance quest every time they added a new race. But that's academic.

The bug here is that for some arbitrary reason, as of 4.0, this stopped spilling over at 5999/6000 friendly for everything except thunder bluff - which continues to rise past honored. Why one and not the rest? This is ofc a rhetorical question, because it's not something you as a player can answer anymore than I can, but the disparity opens the door to a couple of conclusions, namely

1) They intended (for some strange reason) to cap horde / alliance spillover at 5999/6000 as of 4.0 - except that in some cases it still spills over after honored, due to a bug.

2) They did not intend to cap horde / alliance spillover at 5999/6000 in 4.0, but it happened due to an xpac bug or miscommunication - except that in some cases it still spills over.

Either way - not working as intended.

As expected the response to my ticket was an offline wowmail to the effect of "Hi!!!!!! This is Game Master Flowerpants!!!! :D :D :D Thank you! for your ticket! The Lunar rep stops! at friendly!! Keep on playing World of Warcraft! And have a MAGICAL day!! :) :) :) :) ", so I escalated and asked if a senior GM could respond to the part where I said "...and my rep with Thunder Bluff continues to increase from this, even above honored".

Happily I got a response very quickly, while I was online. Unhappily, the new GM confirmed that the rep was changed to stop at 5999 when they removed the cloth turn ins, but looked into my TB rep and confirmed yes indeed there is a bug - it shouldn't be going up (i.e. scenario 1 in my post above). I'd been hoping against hope that it would be #2, but no dice.

That all being said... it still seems stupid. I mean, Lunar coins only happen once a year and even if you nail every single one, it's only 6k. And what are the exalted rewards? A different land mount and a lvl 35 cloak. So basically by capping it at 5999, they're saying (among other things) "ok, might as well quit working on your lantern now and hit the dungeons". I mean, I know there's other motivations to grind coins, it just feels like the rep cap wasn't necessary and works somewhat at cross purposes vs the other motivations.

Ah well. That's that.
