Of course, first I had to get from lvl 47 to 61, which took a chunk of time (at least I managed to include the gloves and cloak into that, else that would have pushed out the timeline quite a bit further), and then I had to go about gathering the pieces.
Runic plate is a pretty obscure set - it's ilvl 55-60 and the stats are terrible, so even back in vanilla no one would have wanted it except for RP purposes, and even then the plans only dropped from certain outdoor elites in far flung locations. Since then, it has been made more accessible - a couple pieces have quest reward lookalikes (as above), and plans for the rest were added to an NPC vendor, but still - crappy stats and mats too expensive for BS skilling, so really this was a "sleeper set" prior to 4.3, and as a result even once I was high enough lvl to 'mog it, I ended up having to get the plans myself and pass them along to one of my guild blacksmiths (along with the mats, which were both strange and expensive - combining silver with thorium, etc).
But finally it all came together; here's the final product (including a trip to the barbershop - the spiky black top knot just didn't go as well with this set); gear list below the pics.
