We've Vanquished Evil on Azeroth. Next: Earth. Kony 2012

Unread post by Shavahi »

It's easy to fight evil in a game. In a game, one person can make a difference. One person can make or break the fight to rid the world of unspeakable evil. Well, it's the same in the real world. Joseph Kony is a warlord who for TWENTY YEARS has been abducting children from their own homes and forcing them into a living hell as child soldiers and sex slaves. Help bring this real-world monster out of the shadows of anonymity and into the light of public awareness so steps can be taken to bring him to justice, and save the lives of thousands of children.

Watch. Share. Bring this atrocity to an end RIGHT NOW. Kony 2012

Donating money is a part of it, but the main goal is to make Joseph Kony as infamous as any other evil man in history. Apparently the Invisible Children organization went to US officials years ago to champion this cause and the official response was ... indifference. If neither the US's security nor its finances were impacted and there was no pressure from voters then no politician neither Democrat nor Republican would support any action against Kony, nor against anyone like him.

So awareness of Kony's war crimes must be raised and enough people must make it known to their representatives that this is an issue that matters. They need to know that the abduction, enslavement and torture of thousands of children cannot go uncontested whether those children live in America, Europe, Asia or Africa.

The end goal is to gain support from the US government to send a few military specialists who will help the local government(s) in Africa to find and arrest Kony and end two decades of appalling human rights violations. There's going to be a grassroots event on April 20th 2012 to spread as many posters, billboards, etc. highlighting this cause as possible.

As the saying goes; all that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing.

Really, if you watch the video it's all explained much better than I can.

But...why post it here on a WoW forum? This seems something more like for facebook.

What Jess said.
I don't think a WoW forum is a place to post your political views.

In 2009 during the Iran protests, I was a part of the social movement on twitter. It tore my personal life to bits and my husband and I very nearly didn't make it past the summer. I'm done being politically active for others online, and only being politically active for myself. It may be selfish, but it's a personal choice for me.

Besides, there are reports of Invisible Children being corrupt and that this whole thing is a scam. Thanks, but no thanks. Keep these things on facebook and twitter where people can pretend they care.

Beings it is posted in the Off-Topic chat I do not see a problem with it being posted here, I think the only intent was to get the word out.

We're a community, sharing things with communities is generally a good idea to spread the word. While I've heard my fair share of claims saying this is a scam, my opinion is purely from a neutral standpoint:

If posts can be made about saving a My Little Pony character, I think posts can be made about saving real children. :)

I'm so tired of hearing about this already. Best I can say has already been said:

http://thedailywh.at/2012/03/07/on-kony-2012-2/

"The bottom line is, research your causes thoroughly. Don’t just forward a random video to a stranger because a mass murderer makes a five-year-old “sad.” Learn a little bit about the complexities of the region’s ongoing strife before advocating for direct military intervention.

There is no black and white in the world. And going about solving important problems like there is just serves to make all those equally troubling shades of gray invisible."

I agree, children have been forced to become child soldiers for a long long time. Yet nobody saves them, it isnt a political view its a do something to help someone who cant help themselves view. Unless its proven this is a scam take it to heart because you automatically calling it a scam could be tossing innocent childrens lives out the window. Besides this is off topic and it isnt some VOTE FOR SO AND SO crap.

Invisable children has been found to have been manipulating facts for strategic purposes, exaggerating the scale of LRA abductions and murders in the past and most of the money they get goes towards the founders and marketing not what they say it goes toward and thats children.

So i'd never give money to Invisable children I just can't trust them. Not saying I wont spread the word just not their word.

MLP is a pretty different scenario than politics. I'd much rather politics be kept on Facebook where more interested masses can read it. You cant say 'saving real children' if you're being neutral, imho, either if you're also claiming you heard it's a scam. That's kinda contradicting your statement.

Either way....keep politics away from gaming forums and we'll be good. Bad enough Trade Chat has endless political argument. Like dont get me wrong, if this isnt a scam, I feel for those kids. I'm not a heartless bitch by any means but I personally just dont feel its appropriate for this forum. But I suppose we'll let the mods decide that. *nod*

No, I'm not contradicting myself because I don't have an opinion on the Kony situation. I know that their cause is to save children, but I also know that it might be a scam. The cause or scam isn't for me to decide, but I feel that no one except for a mod should be policing an innocent topic that was made just to spread the word. How does that mean that I'm not neutral about it? Please don't respond to me if it's just to try and contradict me. :)
