My first Molten Front tame! (Long story, IMG heavy)

Unread post by Rhyela »

Let he/she who hath patience be richly rewarded for suffering through the text I have presented thus: (I talk funny when I'm tired.....)

I putzed around on Rhyela tonight. To be honest, I didn't even really plan on playing her for very long tonight. I have stuff to do around the house, and I've been kind of thinking of creating a draenei hunter.

Well, as I was looking for Loque (I had just finished searching for Madexx), an old friend logged on and started talking to me. I said I wanted to do the waygate quest (so I could hop back and forth between Sholazar for Loque and Uldum for Madexx), but couldn't remember which one it was, so she helped me out with that.

After I finished the quest chain, I went back to SW and mentioned that I kinda wanted to see Ankha or Magria in Hyjal. She asked if I had opened Molten Front yet, and I said I hadn't. I didn't realize you had to unlock that in order to see the Hyjal spirit beasts. That would have saved me some trips through Hyjal, as I've looked for the spirit beasts several times now. Derp. (Is it hard to tell I haven't played seriously in a long time?) Anyway, I went about doing the dailies to unlock it, which only took a day. I thought it took three?

But yeah, as I was saying, I got into the Molten Front and started doing some of the quests there. But then, I found this giant wall of flame and wondered what it was. Do I have to unlock something first to go beyond? Curious little creature that I am, I snuck around the outside of the flames, taking a bit of damage, but managed to get past them. As I did, I saw a dot on my minimap - Kirix. Once I saw his fiery green butt skittering about, I knew fate was calling. I knew I HAD to tame this spider, and I was determined to do so tonight (with my paltry 103k hp ).

Yes, Rhyela, you will need that Deterrence.

I went to some sites to look up strategies, and found one that seemed like it would work. Activate Aspect of the Wild, pull Kirix at max distance, wait for him to knock you back, hit disengage and deterrence, then tame beast. Well, that didn't work. I was a bit rusty at this whole spam-this-then-that taming thing, and was way too slow and was promptly melted. That only served to increase my determination. I tried it a second time, using the same method. As I hit disengage, I realized I hadn't paid attention to my surroundings as I plummeted off the side of the rock and into the great abyss below.

Yay! I discovered Molten Front!.....

I might have tried one or two more times before I finally decided to go get a trash core hound. So, off to Hyjal I went, hoping that Kirix would still be there when I got back (though admittedly, at the time, I wouldn't have been too heartbroken if he had been killed or tamed by someone else). I grabbed my core hound, looked up the abandon macro, and went back to the Molten Front. Confident that I had all the necessary tools (including haste food), I went for it again. The core hound immediately died, thus I had no hysteria buff, and I died (try reading Kirix's buff description, Rhyela).

Perturbed, I went back to grab yet another core hound, and came back to try again. This time, I made sure to place the core hound far away from where I was taming Kirix, fixed my abandon macro (I discovered it was a bit messed up), and tried again. I no sooner popped ancient hysteria when I got stunned. "The heck?" I wondered, as the poison burned me alive.

I rezzed yet again, and headed back to Hyjal to grab another core hound. The next few tries were a blur as I failed time and time again (and found out about his naughty stunny poison bolt of doom). Frustrated, I finally went to youtube and looked up simply "Kirix tame". I watched the first video on the list, and liked what I saw. Jinkies! Those little floaty rocks seem to make it much easier! Excited, I ran to the rocks (sans core hound), pulled Kirix, hit deterrence, started taming that beast, and then got stunned after the deterrance wore off (way to pay attention to the fact that it only lasts five seconds!). Bah.

I rezzed two minutes later, and headed back to the rock. Something went wrong again, I can't remember what. All I know is it involved me being dissolved where I stood. Finally, after I rezzed yet again, I decided to use ye olde guild bank to see if we had any goodies in there (our guild has been dead for months now, no thanks to SWTOR). Aha! Some haste elixirs!

Here I imagine rays of light from the skies above shining down upon these elixirs, but the sparkly circle will have to suffice.
Image

Certain that I would succeed this time, I gulped down the elixir, nommed one of my last haste foods, took my position on the rock, and pulled Kirix. I waited until he was about halfway through his OMG-giant-poison-ball-of-death spell before hitting deterrence, and immediately started casting tame beast.

You know you want it, Kirix! Submit!
Image

A few short (but anxiety-filled) seconds later, he was mine!

Yeah, that's right! Who's your.....mommy?
Image

It only took a couple minutes for me to settle on a name once I hearthed back to Stormwind. I wanted something fitting, something that described the sheer aggravation and headache I went through to get him, my first Firelands noob-tame. Ahh, yes, "Spite". That will do quite nicely! But as I started typing it, I teehee'd at the thought of naming him Spiter (spite, spider, get it?). Then I started to change my mind and backspaced the "r", worried that people would think I misspelled "Spitter" and I'd look like a boob. But, to heck with what people think! I added that "r" back on there, for I am most clever, and named my evil spider of flaming green glutes "Spiter".

I liked the glow from the torch, so warm and lovely.
Image

I didn't think I'd want or like any of these Firelands fellows, but the challenge of the tame makes me proud to have him by my side. Not because I want to show off and prove how extra-special awesome I am, but because I'm proud of myself for sticking it out until I reached my goal. Now I can go to bed, since it's almost 4:30 a.m. and I need to get up early because I sorta-kinda have a house to get ready to sell. (What? Taming Kirix was far more important!)

And thus ends the overlong story of a noob hunter and her naughty little friend.

That is a great story Rhyela! I had a similar thrill tame when I went after Kirix, he's so much fun to get! The name you chose is too adorable, and I think he really suits you. :D

Congratulations on your tame! Kirix is my favorite of the MF spiders. He's also the only one I've tamed. The Molten Front is so quiet nowadays. I Kind of miss seeing Kirix going on those little killing sprees when people would aggro him or tames would fail too close to the quest givers.

Thanks guys! ^_^ I looked at my first screen shot, and realized that it took me almost an hour and a half to finally get that little guy. Man, I haven't had a tame like that since King Krush! And back then, I was just as noobish and unprepared as I was this time. But somehow, I got lucky and managed to pull it off. Whew. :D

I poked around Molten Front some more tonight, and saw Skitterflame as well as Kirix again. I also found Skarr. I don't really like the hunched cats, but I figured I'd give him a try anyway. I had to hearth to SW to respec to MM, but he was still there when I got back. I um...died the first time because the rock I was on fell out from underneath me. But the second time, I used silencing shot on him (a little too slowly, I ate one pyroclast or w/e it's called) and tamed him. I ran around with him for a bit, then when I got back to SW, I abandoned him. I just don't like the hunched kitties, regardless of what skin they are, apparently. I didn't take any pics of him, either. (Edit: Hey wait! He's in the screen shot of Deth. Woot!)

I also saw Deth'tilac, and got a screen shot. I looked up the strategy on how to tame him and well.....I was just too lazy to try tonight after all I went through to get Kirix. That, and the purple color really doesn't suit Rhyela too well. Perhaps on another hunter, another time.....

Image

I then went back to Uldum, but no Madexx. Then I went to Sholazar and found Loque! He was in a place I've never seen him, up on this little ledge overlooking the goretalon birds and near the goretalon matriarch. I've already had him and abandoned him twice, so I'm not sure why I keep coming back to him. Oh well. Anyway, I named him Dante again like I did the past two times, but then it hit me - I have Tetsusaiga and Sounga, but no Tenseiga! So, I whipped up a certificate of ownership on my druid, and re-named him to Tenseiga. That name fits much better to me. Again, I got a screen shot, but not of him after being tamed. >.< I fail at screen shots tonight, I guess.

Image

Finally, I had submitted a ticket to get an old friend of mine back - Rhytil, my carrion bird that I leveled with all through BC and ended up abandoning early on in WotLK for stable space :(. When I hit 80 and through 85, I tried re-taming that model at least two or three times, but could never re-bond with it. It wasn't the same Rhytil. The original Rhytil wasn't anything special, he was just a random buzzard from Outland, but I really bonded with him for some reason. Well, tonight, when I logged on, I saw that my ticket had been responded to. I opened it up, and squeed when I saw that Rhytil had been restored! Yay! He was level 72 as well, so he's definitely the real deal (he also has a low pet# on the armory; the only one lower than his is Tetsusaiga's ^.^). :)

Image

So, another good night of rare-spotting, tames and reunitement (I think I just made up a word)! :)
