Corehound is having issues
I decided to try a corehound yesterday, since my husband likes his so much. I went and got the Kurken, since I've always thought it was cool. Well, I like his giant evil puppy looks, glowing mist and the stomping noises. Neat pet. But. I have him up to 78 now and he still won't hold aggro, even from mobs lower level than he is. My lvl 78 silithid does a much better job, even on mobs of equal or greater lvl. Heck, my lvl 76 tallstrider does better. Even if I give him every opportunity to do so (send him first, cast Intimidate, then shoot), he can't hold them. And I'm not talking about a mob o' mobs situation. Just one at a time. I like him, but I can't keep him unless I can fix this. Any ideas?

Re: Corehound is having issues
What I do if I find I'm peeling mobs off of a pet too quickly, use Misdirection before every fight. I mean, we have it, so why not use it?
Also, and I'm sure this is a no-brainer, but do you make sure you have Growl on? Sometimes I pull stuff off my pet really fast and I'm all O.o til I realize that I just got out of a heroic, and had Growl turned off. Never hurts to double-check.

Re: Corehound is having issues
Good thoughts. I did check growl and it is on. I could use misdirect and if this doesn't stop by the time I get this puppy to 80, I'll have to if I want to keep him. But, it seems to me I shouldn't have to in a normal situation where any of my other pets would be holding aggro just fine. That's the problem.
Re: Corehound is having issues
Did you spec him the same as your tallstrider?

Re: Corehound is having issues
The only differences are that Tsera (tallstrider) has one more point in Spiked Collar than Kyon (corehound) and Kyon has 1 more point in both Culling the Herd and Wild Hunt than Tsera does. Pretty similar. Tsera has 18 points, Kyon has 19. And correction, he's lvl 77, not 78, as I had posted.
Re: Corehound is having issues
That's probably why; Yasindra was peeling aggro off worse than a duck throwing water off it's back. Just level him up to 80 and he'll keep aggro fine. The only times you should be having issues is if you're end game gear equiv or atleast getting decked out there. BUT even then most things are dead by the time they get to Yas' feet.Teigan wrote:The only differences are that Tsera (tallstrider) has one more point in Spiked Collar than Kyon (corehound) and Kyon has 1 more point in both Culling the Herd and Wild Hunt than Tsera does. But at lv 80 Corehounds hold aggro just as fine as anything else that's not tenacity.

Re: Corehound is having issues
Well, I took him to the trainer and untrained and retrained him, hoping that would do "something" and apparently it did. Today, his damage and ability to hold aggro are where I expect them to be for his level. Who knows? Maybe he's just happy I finally named him. And now that he's not broken...love my core puppy!

Re: Corehound is having issues
You know, that kind of makes me wonder if he had one of those strange "bugs" where something doesn't seem to update right. Like, when you get off a mount and your pet's hp doesn't automatically fill, it just sits there at half-health. In the past I've had to dismiss and call out a pet that didn't seem to update or load properly. Who knows.

I think he must have. There's no logical reason he was doing what he was. At least he got better.

Re: Corehound is having issues
I've had pets before that just couldn't hold aggro the way you were describing, and the core hound was one of them. I released mine for an Un'Goro dinosaur that was able to hold aggro very well, even at lvl 75. If it was a bug, maybe I should try re-taming my hound.

Re: Corehound is having issues
Go for it. I really believe it was a bug, since he's doing just fine now. I have him to 80 now, so I've been testing him against my lvl 80 cat and they are about even. Even when I deliberately try and grab aggro from him, just to test it, he holds or regains it quickly.
