Pet changed appearance

So I have a little problem.

I was questing with my 73lvl Hunter in Howling Fjord a week ago, and as I took one quest, suddenly my pet changed it's appearance. My cat now looks exactly like my hunter since then.

I don't know what to do. It's my first time playing a hunter class, so this thing never happened to me before.
First I tought it was just a little glitch that will disappear on it's own, but it's been already a week and my pet didn't change back.
I don't know if my server is at fault or what. My friends I play with also don't know what could be wrong.

Can someone please help me?

Which quest did you take? And how do you mean 'changed'? A screenshot might help!

I think it was The Cleansing. As I summoned Your Inner Turmoil, my pet suddenly changed and stayed that way. Now my pet looks exactly like me. I ended the quest chain a long time ago, but my pet is still like that. Kinda weird.

1. Have you tried "dismissing" your pet and then "summoning" him/her back again? This technique almost always fixes the problem.

2. If that doesn't work, try placing your pet into the stables. Log out of the game. Log back into the game and take your pet out of the stables. This technique may also remove the appearance buff/debuff on your pet.

3. If it is an option you'd consider, try retaming another cat of the same skin. I know most of us here on Petopia are super-committed to our pets and don't merely think of them as just pixels on a computer screen. This solution is the easiest one to help solve your problem but it can make for the most difficult as well depending on your level of attachment.

4. If all else fails, I recommend ticketing a GM for further help. You'll need to provide the name of the quest you are on when your pet was changed, exactally how long ago you ended that quest, and what measures you took to help correct the situation yourself (such as steps 1 and 2 I've listed here).

That is awesome, and I'd totally just keep it.

However, if you really want to change it back, try entering an Arena or RBG with it--should clear hidden debuffs.

The Cleansing summons a ghost of yourself that you need to defeat; it's possible that the ghost counts as a pet which goes hostile, so maybe the game screwed up somehow.

How did it happen? Does it look like you're attacking when you send your pet out to fight?

I've been mucking around the quest -- the two parts it could have happened are upon aggro or first calling the pet. Aggro, the mob blinks, as if it's copying something, or going shadow form. I'm not sure. More later. It may be the ID of the cat skin you tamed and the mob is the same/similar. No luck with a Fanggore wolf so far.

Can you tell us when your cat changed? When the image aggroed, or when it spawned? What spec are you? Has your pet died since then? Did you have any other odd buffs on you? Was your cat in stealth? What type of cat was it?

The definite odd part I've noticed, is that if I FD before the Inner Turmoil aggros, it goes blank -- only seeing my weapon, and a bit of mist. Still no luck copying the pet, though.

Another odd thing is that I can't find you on WowArmory searches at all. Is this a private server?

Several hours later...

No luck. The two moments I assume the glitch would occur -- when the mob is summoned and when the mob is aggroed -- have yielded nothing, in both summoning the pet at the exact moment, different aggro attempts, ect. I have all 3 skins of that cat color, but the glitch simply isn't biting. I have no idea what you did, but if it was a private server, as I can't find you on the armory, it probably can't be replicated in game.

Some other questions about this: did anything unusual happen to you? Did you *do* anything unusual in the quest? Were you presently on another quest that gave you a 'tagalong'?

If this is some kind of joke perpetrated on a private server, I say shame on you.

Have you any idea how many hunters are going to be on top of that mountain trying to find this very very interesting bug?

I know I will be, just as soon as the servers come back up. I realize the likelihood of being able to replicate this curiosity are slim, but if there's any chance at all, it's worth the time to investigate.

Makes me happy I leveled my hunter in bgs.

I already tried resummoning my pet, placed it in a stable, let him die.. nothing worked.
So I think I'm going to try the rbg or arena. If even that doesn't work, I guess I have no choice than ticketing a GM..
I don't really want to retame a new cat, since I have my pet since lvl14...
Also another thing I noticed, while on that glitch, when my pet dies and I resurrect him, he disappers. I mean, only his shadow is seen. I have to resummon him to make him visible again.
And on his portrait he also looks like me, yet on the character sheet he's normal.

At first, it was kinda funny, but now I miss my moonstalker cat. And how he now looks like when attacking? basically like me, but without weapons, only attacking with scratches, which looks humorous xD

Also, I'm on a czech wotlk server, so sorry if you want to try that glitch too and can't ^^" But I assure you, after a while, you would start to hate it >.> my cute little kitty

To another question: my cat (moonstalker) simply changed at the very same moment the mob spawned. It wasn't in stealth or anything..

But maybe it's simply because of my server.. Even though none of my friends that played as hunters on that server before me had this happening... O.o

OK, forget what I said about the character sheet... Now as I logged into the game, his appearance there changed as well. Hooray!

The GM would probably tell you to blow away your WTF folder, and if that doesn't work, abandon and retame - he'll end up the same in game-terms, and it's not like your memories are going anywhere...

Ah... yes, if it's a wotlk Czech free-to-play unofficial server, then it probably isn't viable on live, Cata. I tried a bit yesteday, and simply having the pet out didn't transfer skins. Ah well! I was so hoping to have a belf pet ^^

Pretty sure you guys just got trolled ;p Someone posted this over to the hunter forums on wow-us and I spotted it, getting the SS is easy, here's the 'how to' I posted there:-

Step 1) make 2 identical characters on different accounts, lets say Katzbalger and Flutter!
Step 2) make a guild called 'Katzbalger's Pet' with Flutter in it
Step 3) stand them side by side, take ss

Ta'dah, one SS of Katzbalger with 'himself' as his pet.

I believe you I don't think you can put symbols in guild names anyway, so the listed trick "Name's Pet" wouldn't work in any case! I assume it's just some glitch on the private server, but will still probably clear if you go into an arena.

Has another else seen you with your new "pet"? I bet they would be surprised to watch another you meleeing a mob in a dungeon while you're supposed to be shooting, which you honestly are. I would likely keep it just to see people's faces (even though ingame character faces don't show much emotion).

Can anyone explain this and if anyone has done it successfully can they explain it to me? To be honest I want to try this and run around with myself and kick ass! Anyone mind helpin a hunter out? :3
