Thanks guys! You are all too kind
I thought I'd try a few cranes, since they're easy and fun. Since the ones they created are in such a range of colours it means pretty much anything goes. Of course it also means it's harder not to overlap with what Blizzard already created, but not too much.
Firstly, as a reference, the full range of real Blizzard ones can be seen here: http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic ... 9&start=10
A pretty aqua:

A richer blue than the in-game one:

Wine red with magenta crown. It's has obvious similarities to the official brown one, but is a bit richer:

Light mauve. It looks quite fluffy:

In contrast, this olive one looks like a murky swamp bird, but still pretty:

Burnt orange. Rather tropical:

Rich, dark purple and then a fluffier, lighter purple:

Crimson red. I like how this one turned out, with the contrasting blue markings.

Finally an interesting two-tone blue-and-red that came out kind of puce. This effect was a chance thing when combining colour channels from skins that had brighter colouring in very slightly different parts of the skin. I'm going to experiment with it more and see if I can get some nicer mixes:

One thing while experimenting with these guys that I hadn't noticed originally is that there's a seriously obvious join on the neck of many of them, mostly the darker ones. This occurs on the official / in-game ones too. It seems to be the result of the model using the just a little too far and reaching a dark border. If they clipped it just a few pixels shorter I suspect they could avoid it. Maybe they'll fix it.

The aqua looks like a crane version of the Clutchmother (which looks very good), and im loving to death the Lavander (im calling the super light purple one that XD) one, and the super dark purple one

Very pretty! I can't wait to see the cranes in game.
Mantid Tanks
Since they just added the mantid tank model I couldn't help but try mixing up the colours a bit. Like silithids they're fun and easy as pretty much any colour combo goes. These are just a small selection of the dozens and dozens I generated tonight.
My favourite is this dark blue:

A couple of lighter, more pastel colours:

A camouflage tank in chartreuse:

Purple with orange flame motif. It kind of goes with the purple silithid colossus. Or it could just be the racing model.

Something a bit dark and murky, with iridescent highlights:

Quilin
Thought I'd tinker with quilin skins quickly tonight. Some of the colour channels aren't easy to swap around between skins because some of them have different types of markings (spots, white bellies, etc.) and when they're combined you can end up with some freaky coloured markings.
But anyway, it was fun
Here's what I have so far...
Firstly some organic skins:
Gold with white mane (similar to in-game brown, but much yellower), and silver with gold mane:

Two blues. The second is rather celestial, and I like his white socks

Indigo with attitude:

Re: Miscellaneous skin mash-ups
I really like that gold one with the piercing blue eyes and that indigo one.
Nice job! Could you make one black. o.o?

Quilin part 2
Some stone ones...
Sunstone and dark stone:

One that looks like it's painted in aged red paint. I've seen so many antique oriental cabinets like this. Probably more Mongolian than Chinese, come to think of it:

One I'm very proud of (if I do say so myself!). Old Chinese red lacquer style:

And some experiments in more metallic styles. Bronze, tarnished brass, gold, and copper:

Hydras!
I had a play with hydra skins today, which was fun. Pretty much anything goes for hydra colours, but of course a lot of them looked kinda horrific anyway so there was a lot of culling. Poor hydras. I also played with stripes a lot, which meant a lot of them inherited part of the red skin (the only one with stripes).
Here's a variety of ones I liked and thought were interesting
Silver-pink. A bit more striking than the in-game grey one:

A couple of really dark ones. Black with blue belly, and a dark teal:

Coffee:

Yellow:

A couple of blue ones, both very different to the in-game one:

Dark green swamp hydra:

A couple of purples. The first is a very soft lavender. The second a lot darker:

And finally another purple. This one with strong orange-magenta belly. It's extremely bright but I fell in love with it!

I've also been experimenting with Outland hydra skins, but they can wait till another day. They use two skins rather than one which means I have to ensure all the halves match and it's a much greater pain to render them all in WMV.

Eee, hydras! <3
The black with a blue belly is gorgeous. I really love the hues on the dark teal as well! Then the blue with the electric cyan stripes looks awesome too! And purple with orange of course.

Re: Miscellaneous skin mash-ups
Would like to order one dark teal, one yellow and my favourite, that striking dark green swamp hydra. Love it, love it!!
Re: Miscellaneous skin mash-ups
I'm not sure exactly what you had in mind, but is this kind of along the right track?Vulpixen wrote:Nice job! Could you make one black. o.o?

I based it on the red skin, which you can probably guess by the tattoos.

Re: Miscellaneous skin mash-ups
I couldn't help but have a quick play with the new amber horde scorpid skin tonight. I only spent about two minutes swapping the colour channels around. I didn't do anything more complicated than that.
But even that gave some cool other looks for it. Especially this amethyst one:

Also sapphire, and hot pink:
