Possible New silithids?

Unread post by Darven »

Wasnt sure whether or not to make this a topic or not...

Its a very big picture so I figure I'll put the picture in link form.

These things look amazing.
They're called 'Mantid Tanks'.
A very cool looking reskin of the Silithid Colosi.
The faces I'm not the bigest fan of but everything else is just awesome.

Unsure if they are even beasts or if they will even be tameable.

Its a good question :) When we first saw the model (which is obviously a revamp on the silithid colossus) we hoped they'd be beasts. Mantids are of course humanoids, but it's not impossible that these tanks are just beasts under their control, much the same way that qiraji used silithids.

The only one I've spotted in the game so far was classed as a humanoid though. It's this guy:

Image

That doesn't necessarily mean they'll be humanoids, as many things are wrongly classed on early beta, but it's not a good sign.

I like that these models don't have the Pinocchio noses. :) It would be great if they end up tameable, but you're right Wain, it's hard to say what direction they're wanting to go with them.

Personally... the more I look at them, the more I see them as humanoids. Especially in the face.

I don't care if they are or not tamable I think they look badass! :3

But in saying that it's best not to assume they will be tameable just becouse they use a model that is. Best to wait and see as I have seen lately some people get qiraji confuesd with silithids and use that argument of "but we can tame the owners of AQ40!" when that's wrong. It's a pet peeve I know.

Allso where is this dude? I'd love to see him in the beta!

It's out in a kind of canyon area between Dread Wastes and Townlong Steppes. The zones are closed atm, so you can only explore there using the Eagle Eye macro.

You look at that face and see a humanoid? I'm a bit worried about what people look like out your way ;)
Kayb wrote:Why are there Nerubians?
They've been using both nerubian and qiraji models as placeholders (a lot of them have messages indicating that in their titles) till they finalize the various mantid models.

I'm not sure. I'd love for them to be tamable, and I'd dare wager that this would be the only chance to even hope for a quality update to Silithid Colossi. (I also love, as Vephriel said before, that they don't have the Pinocchio nose)

I just won't get my hopes up.

On the flipside. It happens a lot that many new mobs are classified as humanoids before they get turned into beasts or any other classification later.

Much like the Quilin/Qilin/Kirin(?), who were humanoids one build before the current one, and got changed in the latest build.

Secondly. Just a question to you, Wain.

Those dead Nerubian are supposed to be Mantid, yes?

I wonder why they are dead, if no one can get in that zone yet?

Maybe the tanks are indeed beasts and there you see Mantid (with Nerubian PHs) that tried and failed to enslave a big one and got killed?

( I don't see any other reason as to why that huge creature would be standing/walking there while there are (supposedly) dead Mantid spread around it.

It gives me slight hope at the least.

I also don't think Blizzard would be so cruel as to dangle a cheese in front of so many bug-taming hunters like that and then say "NOPE! Humaaanoiiiid."

But hey, we'll just have to wait and see. :)

They're presumably staged corpses, like they use in a number of other places. I don't know the story or why. But there are battles going on in other parts of the area.

Oh it's not the place with those golden lotus fighters or what ever they are called? The ones where you do killing quests for them? That would explain the corpses then.

It's a good guess that the Mantid Tanks will be classified as beasts later. They're probably the bestial shock troops of the Mantids, like the Silithid Boss Tanks are heavy hitters for the Qir'aji.

Here's to hoping, anyway :)

It's possible, but then it really will end up pivoting on how intelligent they are, and if blizzard wants us taming them. There is also a new possible Mantid themed boss called Neronok (I'm not aware of any other insectral type race in MOP yet, so guessing it is) using a undead skin from the Anub'ar Blightbeast

Image

I'm not sure if it's just a place holder skin, but again, another critter, that may or may not be a beast.

They'd have to change them from being undead but then again blizz has done that in the past  That boss is most likely a mantid of some sort they have not said anything about another race.

LOL Could you imagine if you could be the bug type people that look like those as a playable char and make a hunter to tame a brain bug with? Ahh that'd be good times.

Am I the only one that looks at the red boss mantid and sees a Krogan face (Mass Effect series)?
