Fjord Crows / Daggercap Hawks / Dire Ravens

Unread post by Calgary »

I don't know if this has been mentioned but the Daggercaps and Dire Ravens share a model but have different skins. I'm working on getting daytime screenshots.

The Dire Raven is much darker, a blue-gray too. The daggercaps are much, much paler (and fly stupid).

I don't know why I didn't notice til now. They're very, very obviously different when you compare them side by side with two different hunters.

Edit: Screenshots, side by side. The Fjord Crows share the same colors as the Dire Ravens; the Daggercap Hawks are the paler ones. And the only ones with gimped flight.

Ooo, interesting. And, this is with neither one targeted? Sometimes that can alter the lighting a little.

But even if you were, it looks like they are a tad different.

I made sure neither were selected for both screenshots. Try it out. :o the /really/ dramatic difference in colors is at night. It's almost like the Daggercap is permanently highlighted along with flying stupid.

Hmm. Interesting. I'm guessing it's just a model error of some sort, glitched in some way, but the same model...

Or I could be completely wrong. I reserve that right.

And it's been that way since WOTLK launched, too. The daggercaps have always been funny flyers, but I only noticed the color difference today while taming a dire raven to compare, as a friend had the daggercap and I wanted to show what the proper flight animation was.

It seems that the Daggercap Hawks share everything with the crow you get transformed into during the quest As the Crow Flies. I did the quest the other day and noticed that it had the same stationary flying style as the Daggercap Hawk. Decided to throw this out here, as it seems like the Daggercap Hawks were copypasted from there. ^^

But that IS a nice found. o.O

Actually it's probably more the fact that it's the druid flight form base that they took it from. But even then they broke it as they flight correctly when walking- they have almost the exact, if not the same exact movement druids have when using flight form. They also 'fly' correctly when under water. It's like Blizz borked up the idle/slow with running/fast.

The color difference is interesting AND the fact it looks like the crow flies lower to the ground to boot, too.

Could you by any chance put up the actual pictures? For some stupid reason my work computer is denying access to those URLs even though I've used photobucket in the past without a problem. O.o

I myself had noticed this. i used to have a Dire Raven a while back. I decided to tame a Fjord Crow and noticed the more silver color in the feathers. And yes I also tamed a Daggercap hawk and noticed the weird flight movement.

If I had any idea how to put up the 'actual pictures', and if I had any idea of what that means I'd totally do it. o_o/

The fjord crow, interestingly, once tamed, shares the 'I can actually fly' model with the dire ravens. The daggercaps are the only significantly paler, crippled flight ones.

 Sorry! If you save the files to your desktop, you can then use the "Attach File" feature to put up pictures that way. When I said "actual pictures", I meant you can then be even sneakier. If you attach the file then preview (not submit), and click on the attachment, it will take you to a preview with a URL address. What you can then do is add [img] tags to the URL and voila - your pretty picture in all its glory right there in the post! :D (It seems to not work with my work computer's prehistoric version of Internet Explorer, however)

And I've probably gone and confused you.

This is a fascinating discovery! o.o I'm going to have to take a look at them both in game and see these differences. :)
