Fortunately, since most of the pets I have so far are those I've used before and I liked or I know I can get used to them in no time, I intend to keep them. Then, when I want to experience with new pets I never tried because I never really cared for them before, I give them a try. Bats are a very good example in my experience; I never cared for them until I actually went and tamed one. Then my Ressan (not referring to the bat I tamed last night. This was on another hunter.) ended up becoming the healers' favorite pet during the low-level dungeons because of his stun and that made my love for them grow. Ravagers are another example; I always thought they were ugly to be honest. However, there are still a few pets I am reluctant to try. Even with my Peritas, I am still getting used to her because I am not a big dog lover (wolves and now foxes are an exception to canines I like).
