Re: Type of Spider ?
I really don't think that's a black widow, it looks more like some sort of orb weaver. I could be wrong, though. Its legs seem a little too thick and stubby, whereas black widows (from what I've seen) have thinner, longer legs.

Re: Type of Spider ?
Hmmm, it actually does somewhat resemble a black widow. It's hard to tell but I think it's a possibility.
Unless you're afraid of spiders. If this ever happens again, I'd say get a clear cup/glass and trap it, then carefully slide the glass up or down to get the spider to walk onto it. And... Have something to cover it with. That's always how I investigate spiders I find before moving them outside. XD

Re: Type of Spider ?
I don't think that's a black widow. Unless it's very young and has gone through a few molts. Looks like pretty small. Could also be a brown widow spiderling which can be more common depending on where you live. It may also be a juvenile male widow who's not come into his adult colors yet. Hard to tell species given the spider itself is really small. Spiderlings change colors dramatically at times with each molt depending on species.

Well I was gonna link my favorite bug identifying site..but aparently it is not working and giving me trojan warnings o_o
Best way to see if it's in the widow family, if theres a web, use a stick and pull on the strings. If there is an audible ripping sound, you have a widow family member.
