WMV? editing? signatures?!

I know this is my first post, but there's something that I have been trying to figure out for a few months now.
I've seen amazing signatures with pets. I've been dying to make my own as well for a while now.
I really would love to add Arcturis on this, but I am not exactly sure how I would be able to add his qhostiness
in the signature. I do not have a lot of experiences at editing, but I use gimp.
Can anyone help me?
