Thinking about Wain's theory regarding the climate in the southern Azerothian continents, I can't figure how there is SNOW in the northern parts of Pandaria.

So to that end, it does feel like Northrend...

The north island at the top can be quite hot. They grow Bananas up there and it don't snow up north. It's more like Northrend down south.

That's kinda what I was thinking! Except Pandaria DOES have snow in the north, which is weird. O_O

True, but those mountains are quite high, the snow doesn't come close to the coastal areas, correct? (haven't explored it all yet, but have taken the balloon ride down to the coastal area.

The snow-capped mountains are incredibly high, but they were fairly close to the coast - or maybe that balloon ride is longer than I thought, since that's the rough area I'm thinking of.

That severe altitude rise could explain the snow, rapid cooling of clouds with altitude forces out the moisture. Assuming the prevailing winds are from the north...

How far north?

Doesn't matter... But the air does need to be cooler to begin with. In RL, I think it's about 3.5 deg F for every 1000 ft elevation gain. Which means the clouds have to drop moisture as well. That would also explain why the other side is dryer grasslands... not much moisture left after the air clears the mountains.

Not to be inappropriate... But has anyone else ever noticed the shape of the Thousand Needles Flooding on the world map? I just noticed it, and It cannot be unseen.

Yeah, haven't been able to unsee that one since day 1.

I'm sure I'm over thinking this but Pandaria is in the same spot as Northrend yet is all ice and snow and panda land is not all ice and snow.

Haha okay I did not see Wains theory on the southern hemisphere bit makes more sence. Just hope theres not a continent full of jungle and aztec lizard men. If you get the refernce. Hope it don't start with a L

Pandaria's not on or near the south pole, it's more in line with Kalimdor and EK's "tropical" belt (STV and the desert zones of Kalimdor), giving it an overall sub-tropical climate, with different biomes depending on the area (the tall mountains have snow like Kilimanjaro in Africa).

But really quite frankly we don't know if thats a full map of the world or not or how far down those land masses are or if the map is it's self in scale or not.

Not to mention that Azeroth is not bound by the same laws of reality as we are. This is self-evident in that the goblins', gnomes' and dwarves' superior technology has not translated into ruling the place by now.
