Re: Need a little help
Surv gets a lot of help from either having a Dragonhawk or a Windserpent for the +magic damage buff. As Surv, your pet isn't really doing a lot of damage anyway, and most of the damage a Surv hunter does is magic damage. So just spec the cunning pet for damage and let it cast its debuff on your targets and that'll boost your damage.
For Marks, I've heard good things about having a hyena since they buff bleed damage. I don't play Marks myself, though, so someone else would be better to comment on that.

Melentari and Tevildo - she tamed him a long time ago.

Lots of distinctive wolves. Deathmaw and Old Cliff Jumper are both unique rares. Other uniques are Ironjaw, Ripp, Bjomolf, and the ghostly The Lone Hunter. The white dire wolf is only available on rares and one battleground npc. You might also consider the Northrend color-changers. Tames made after 5.0 will no longer color change, but it's possible tames made before then will continue to do so.

Re: Need a little help
I raid as BM, but I will say that one of the non-exotics in my stable that sees a decent amount of action is my wind serpent Starskream. Gives a nice debuff for the casters in your group to exploit, plus there are some really nice skins available. I personally prefer the white/black spiky model from WotLk.
On the other hand, wolves are always a good choice (Fenris was the first pet I ever tamed after all), and depending on the usual make-up of your group, the crit buff may be more in demand than the magic damage debuff.

My favorite wolves are Old Cliff Jumper and Deathmaw, but if you play Horde I also recommend Spot from Theramore (he/she barks!). I believe some of the grey coyote models from Mulgore also bark, but I like to think that I "rescued" Spot from the life she had with the Alliance.
No offense intended to my ally friends by that- I play an 85 ally hunter as well!
I also recommend a Dragonhawk (I have the blue one from Sunwell).
