This makes me want to rip out my hair...

Unread post by Crotalus Horridus »

SKIP EVERYTHING BELOW THIS, I have it figured out: The Godzilla in the first film, if you watch it, is killed. But, after that movie, another one appears, so, seeing as a whole bunch of Godzillasaurus' have been mutated, nothing changed.

PREPARE FOR A LONG READ: I know this may seem a little silly to the non-godzilla fans, but there is something in a movie, specifically Godzilla VS King Ghidorah [1991], that makes me want to scream at the top of my lungs saying ''THIS MAKES NOT SENSE TOHO!''.

Here is what it is: In the movie Godzilla VS King Ghidorah, some people from the 23rd Century come to the time of 1991 so they can trick them into teleporting Godzilla to the Indian Ocean and replacing him with three Dorats to create King Ghidorah. This is all because the world creates one big union and Japan becomes the most powerful country and buys out a bunch other ones and becomes a super country, the other countries get jealous, so they try to destroy Japan with King Ghidorah WHICH they control.

What bothers me is this: Since they replaced Godzilla with King Ghidorah, what happened in the previous movies? Here is the entire movie list, I will mark the messed up ones;

Godzilla (Godzilla, King of the Monsters) [1954] < This one
Godzilla Raids Again [1955] < This one
King Kong vs. Godzilla [1962] < This one
Mothra vs. Godzilla [1964] < This one
Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster [1964] < This one
Invasion of Astro-Monster (Godzilla vs. Monster Zero) [1965] < This one
Ebirah, Horror of the Deep (Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster) [1966] < This one
Son of Godzilla [1967] < This one
Destroy All Monsters [1968] < This film happens in the future, around 1999.
All Monsters Attack (Godzilla's Revenge) [1969] < This one
Godzilla vs. Hedorah (Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster) [1971] < This one
Godzilla vs. Gigan [1972] < This one
Godzilla vs. Megalon [1973] < This one
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla [1974] < This one
Terror of Mechagodzilla [1975] < This one
The Return of Godzilla (Godzilla 1985) [1984] < This one
Godzilla vs. Biollante [1989] < This one
Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah [1991] < This one
Godzilla vs. Mothra (Godzilla & Mothra: The Battle for Earth) [1992] < This one is another issue, Mothra and Godzilla have met in the previous films and acted as frenemies (Friend/Enemy). Does this film just ignore all the previous ones? Or, is it a remake of the Original Godzilla VS Mothra? If it is a remake then it would be affected by the time traveling gargin.
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla 2 [1993]
Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla [1994] < This one
Godzilla vs. Destoroyah [1995] < This one
Godzilla 2000: Millennium (Godzilla 2000) [1999]
Godzilla vs. Megaguirus [2000]
Godzilla, Mothra & King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack [2001] < This one
Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla [2002]
Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. [2003]
Godzilla: Final Wars [2004]
Godzilla 2012 [Not yet released, but will be this year]

Lets begin; of course, the previous films wouldn't make sense seeing Godzilla wouldn't exist, he wouldn't have befriended Anguirus in Godzilla VS Gigan, Jet Jaguar in Godzilla VS Megalon, and so forth. The movies that REALLY erk me are Godzilla VS Spacegodzilla, Godzilla VS Biollante, and Godzilla VS Destoroyah.

Firstly, according to Toho, DNA from a rose bud on Infant Island were crossed with Godzilla genes to make Biollante, but if seeing as Godzilla never existed, neither did Biollante.

Second, molecules of biollante drifted off into space and mutated into Space Godzilla. Space Godzilla sadly, does not exist. Because for him to exist, Biollante would have to exist, who doesn't exist, because Godzilla never existed until the Godzilla VS King Ghidorah.

And third and the most complex of them all, during the first movie, Godzilla was killed with a device called the Oxygen Destroyer. In Godzilla VS Destoroyah, the new Godzilla starts to die, and Destoroyah attempts to finish him off. Destoroyah by the way, was created by the Oxygen Destroyer. BUT, seeing as Godzilla never existed in the first movie, the oxygen destroyer was never made. So, that means, without the oxygen destroyer existing, neither does Destoroyah.

I have no idea how Toho or Legendary Pictures didn't see this, it's crazy. So, what happened in the previous films? Did King Ghidorah take there place? What about in the Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster and Invasion of the Astro Monster? Did King Ghidorah fight himself? Did he just sit there doing nothing? And what about in the first Mechagodzilla series, did he fight Mecha-King Ghidorah? No, because Mecha-King Ghidorah didn't exist until King Ghidorah was replaced with Godzilla in Godzilla VS King Ghidorah! What about Minilla, the little grey alien freakshow of a Godzillasaurus that Godzilla took care of? Was he adopted by King Ghidorah? And what about in Giant Monsters All Out Attack and the Return of Godzilla, both ignore the previous films and follow the second one (Well seeing as Return of Godzilla is after the Godzilla Raids Again, Giant Monsters All Out Attack would be the fourth.) Is King Ghidorah a villain in Return of Godzilla, but then ALL OF THE SUDDEN he's a hero in Giant Monsters All Out Attack? And without Godzilla in Giant Monsters All Out Attack, what does he defend Japan from? A Magical Unicorn named Mister Floofin' Toof that farts rainbows and pukes kittens while at the same time shoots lazar beams out of his tail?

My head hurts...

TL;DR: Stuff doesn't fit in with stuff that came first. The stuff that doesn't fit isn't given an explanation if it is fixed to fit the stuff that came first. Stuff.

I am aware that my Godzilla threads are a little excessive, but recently getting back into it I've basically been flooded with information on it that I just have to share. Also, I already have shiny thing. This is shiny rock;

(You could always do what most Marvel fans do: Alternate Universes. Admittedly, Marvel calls them alternate universes, but shouldn't replacing Godzilla create an alternate universe anyway? Just my two cents.)

I tried a couple of things: An alternate universe, like you said, didn't really make much sense. However, I thought that after the movie the future people that weren't dead (They got sabotaged at the end of the movie) went to the past, retrieved the moved Godzilla and the Dorats, put them in the right location, and put everything back on track.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, an alternate universe does work.
EDIT 2: Or not, seeing as Mechagodzilla 2 is made from parts of Mecha-King Ghidorah.
