Also, I'm calling the felguards good for now. Thanks for all the help with them.

So, voidwalkers....disappearing critters, pulling things from the void....any other ideas?

This won't be the last update after all. Efindel has offered to take on the nuts and bolts coding of this, so PetEmote won't be dying a slow death anymore. This is good. He is going to be taking it up about mid-June and says he will try to include custom files, so this would be the time to report issues such as spelling, etc.

Re: PetEmote Addon - It's not the end
On the first page of this thread, there's the files comprising the last "official" version of PetEmote that Jorna posted before she stepped away. It doesn't have any of the emotes I've done since (the older ones are of course in there). I just put that there since the only source of the addon disappeared. Did you ever try downloading that? And also, make sure that you have "load out of date addons" checked.Ilyenna wrote:I can't wait to have a working version of pet Emote again! *Dances*

Why do I want to make the voidwalkers terrors that flap in the night all of a sudden? -_-

Ghouls and ghosties and long legged beasties and things that go bump in the night. *nods* But yes, I too am leaning towards making voidwalkers very dark. The lore supports that.Kalliope wrote:Oh yeah, I think the new minions may require their own sets of emotes too, especially if the summon spells for them are different. Obviously, there will be some overlaps, but as we could tell from the voice emotes, there are some very different personalities in there.

And definitely, the new minions will require their own emotes. How exactly I'm going to get in character of a Beholder to write emotes for it is beyond me, but....we shall see, I suppose.

Also, attached are screencaps of the felguards final take. For now at least. Just voidwalkers to go.

Re: PetEmote Addon - It's not the end
You can set a custom family -- does that not affect the emotes used? If not, then that's something I should add an option for.Teigan wrote:The addon utilizes the pet families, such as wolf, dog, fox or spirit beast, to separate emotes. Demon dogs are not a separate family. They're part of the dog family. The addon doesn't allow separation of different skins within families. A good case study of this is the difficulty we had with spirit beasts, and writing emotes that would suit both a crab and a cat. You are welcome to write your own emotes specific to your demon dog pet, of course, just keep in mind they would be overwritten by any other custom files, due to how the addon works.zedxrgal wrote:May I take a stab at writing for the demon dogs?
Other notes to myself:
- Check the Wayback Machine for the old online documentation. Use that to make a README.
- Put the source into Curse's git repositories.
- Alter TOC to indicate current maintainers, have the current WoW version, and update the addon version number.
- Integrate Teigen's new emotes.
- Insert debugging flag, command-line switch to turn on debugging, and debugging print statements in places.
- Insert a command to generate a random emote and output it just to the user, for easier debugging.
- Update Tongues on my system, and see if there's a way PetEmote could call it for "translations" of warlock pet speech.
- Spec out a ChatSubs-like markup for PetEmote to use. Need to add a "master/mistress" thing.
- Look at splitting localized emotes into separate files, marked by language code.
... and that's probably more than I'll actually get time to do this weekend.

Re: PetEmote Addon - It's not the end
Oh wow, if you could make that happy, Efindel, that would be AMAZING! Then the spirit beast cats could take all the purring and such and the others could have appropriate emotes for their families. A lot of excellent emotes got chopped due to silliness like Skoll meowing or Ghostcrawler licking his paws.efindel wrote:You can set a custom family -- does that not affect the emotes used? That would be amazing! I have no idea how you would make it differentiate between skins within families, but that would kick so much butt! And if you can, that would also mean so much work!Kalliope wrote:Oh wow, if you could make that happy, Efindel, that would be AMAZING! And its the 15th. Which means I need to finish up the voidwalkers today, doesn't it? Since you wanted to have the emotes by the 16th? Erg....help me....new anxiety medication makes me feel like I'm floating in molasses

Re: PetEmote Addon - It's not the end
Well, it wouldn't know anything about skins -- there's no way to get that information from the game that I know of. (I'll look, just in case something's changed, but I doubt it has.) It'd just be possible for a player to manually say "This pet is a crab" and have it use emotes that are marked for "crab".Teigan wrote:That would be amazing! And if you can, that would also mean so much work! And if that's possible, sure, Rex, write all the demon dog stuff you want! I would like to see them be a different dog than the generic dog emotes. Oh, the possibilities! And Rime (my Ghostcrawler) could finally act like a crab....and Solstice could act like a cat....and....and...
Don't feel like you have to rush! Like I said, I'll have plenty to do on it even without that -- especially since this weekend is Father's Day, so I'll be spending some time with my daughter on Sunday. And its the 15th. Re: PetEmote Addon - New shiny things
Would it be possible to specify personality types for a family? Or maybe moods.

Re: PetEmote Addon - New shiny things

One thing I wanted to comment on, I'm a little sad my felhunter is now an 'it' instead of a 'him'. I understand that they don't have so much of a pronounced gender as some of the other minions, but I was used to thinking of mine as male, and the old emotes had his/him/etc. Would there be a way to make male/female emotes where we can set the gender of our felhunter?
