Water Strider Insects

Unread post by Vephriel »

I figured they may as well have their own topic. :)

As azurelith found in Kun-Lai Summit, there is a pool of tameable water striders called Lightfooted Snapclaws. The pool is below a waterfall leading into the ocean, just north of the Z in 'ZOUCHIN VILLAGE' on the map.

They're huge after taming! They have a sort of slow, fluid pulse of light that brightens and then dims their colour constantly. It's pretty neat, and I don't find it rapid or obvious enough to be annoying.

I tried to capture both the lightest and darkest hues of the glow:

I find it ironic that the tiny water-strider insects become massive, yet the Yaks are itty-bitty after tame.

Also, I read in one of the threads that these guys are currently not labeled Exotic, yet keep their exotic ability even when not tamed by a BM, this should be noted I feel.

I predict a swift fix for that, heh! Now if only they'd make the jade ones in Dread Wastes tamable... >.> *wants one of those*

Neither of the pictures were targeted, as I said they have an idle glow that dims on and off, so they shift from being light to dark. :)

While this feature of the Grimtotem Spirit Guide wasn't exactly intended... - it will still be possible in future for everyone who wishes to tame this NPC to do so

Yup! Think of it like someone turning the dimmer switch on and off for a light. It's just a slow fluid pulse.

Aha, so that was you Akyo. ^^ Hee, I had a feeling it was someone from the forum. :)

This 'orange' is my second-most favorite color, and as the 'yellow' hasn't been seen in game, my Lotus probably will be a Lightfooted Snapclaw.

The yellow and orange (this one is the orange) water striders are definitely my favorite. I'll have to observe each of them in game to make my decision about which one to keep!

I just tamed one. They are huge! I don't really like how they change color. I wish they would stay the darker color as that was the color I wanted initially.

I love the way the skin pulses light and dark. Drab color but the effect is great.

Yay, I had a feeling about these guys when I first saw them! :) Wonder when the others will be joining them as flagged. :D Love the nifty glow effect; can't wait to see it in game. :)

I tamed one, they are massive. With Bestial Wrath they go to the size of the wild Mushan almost. The model is very nice but not really my kind of thing, I might get one for water walking but it might end up being one of the Outland ones.

My orc, belf and draenei hunter would use the outland model. The rest esp my pandaren hunters would definitely use the insect model XD

I can't view them because of parental controls blocking image websites. :C Veph, could you post it as a file, or as a photobucket or imgur link? If possible. Thanks ^_^

I was able to tame one of these (and use it) in Survival spec. I haven't checked since the new build came out to see if I can still use it outside of BM

EDIT:
Just confirmed, still able to summon it in SV.
