Monk Sets (Final Version, Updated August 30th)

Unread post by Sigrah »

With the release of Mists of Pandaria creeping closer by the day, I decided to put some time into coming up with some leather sets for my Monks that I might actually like. In general, most of the leather armor sets out there just don't appeal to me for one reason or another, but after playing around with Mogit on various toons, I found a few sets I actually like. Since this is a work in progress, more sets might be added over time as I play with Mogit and find sets that appeal to me. Any changes I make will be in the edited notes below. Finally, as a change of pace, I chose to use Human models for display purposes. Enjoy!

Edit Notes:
July 2nd - Initial Post with Red Leather Harness set.
July 3rd - Added Yellowish Brown Leather Harness set.
July 4th - Added Heraldic/Potent and Supreme sets.
July 6th - Added Raptor Hide Harness and updated Supreme set. Also added Scorpashi Set (Modified Version) in a separate post since each post is capped at 10 attachements.
August 23rd - Added Grizzly Leather and Replica Darkmantle sets in the Scorpashi post.
August 30th - Updated Weapon in "Red Leather Harness Set" to Firestorm Greatstaff since it is now the only weapon with that appearance known to still drop. Final update, won't be posting additional sets to this thread.

Shown Gear:
Head: None
Shoulder: Scaled Leather Shoulders
Back: None
Chest: Feral Harness
Wrist: Feral Bindings
Hands: Feral Gloves
Waist: Feral Cord
Legs: Saber Leggings
Feet: Feral Shoes
Staff: Firestorm Greatstaff

This set is by far my favorite so far. It uses mostly Feral armor pieces, though I did decide to swap out the pants with the Saber Leggings because I liked it better than the Feral pants that go with this set. The Feral set does not have a shoulder slot item that is moggable, so I went with the Scaled Leather Shoulders as a substitute. And because I like this set so much, I picked out a sizable number of weapons across various types to go with it.

Other Gear Choices:
Headbands: Adventurer's Bandana, Wicked Leather Headband
Eyepatches: Swashbuckler's Eyepatch, Ragefury Eyepatch
Polearms:Gargoyle's Bite, Stoneraven, Blackfury
Fist Weapons: Bladefist Knuckles, Carnelian Spikes
One-Handed Axes: Deadmines Cleaver
One-Handed Maces: Wirt's Third Leg, Beast Clobberer
One-Handed Swords: Wicked Mithril Blade, Ogre Pocket Knife, Scourgebane's Slicer, Doomforged Straightedge

Shown Gear:
Head: None
Shoulder: Earthen Leather Shoulders
Back: None
Chest: Murkblood Chestpiece
Wrist: None (most wrist items will be covered by gloves)
Hands: Foreman's Gloves
Waist: Murkblood Belt
Legs: Thick Draenic Pants
Feet: Mud Stained Boots
Staff: Rattan Bo Staff

Full Wowhead Link: Yellowish Brown Leather Harness Set

This set is probably the most "creative" one I came up with. By that, I mean I used a lot of different armor pieces instead of using mostly pieces from a "box set". It's my second favorite of the ones I've come up with so far.

Raptor Hide Harness Set

Male Version

Female Version

Shown Gear:
Head: None
Shoulder: Volcanic Shoulders
Back: None
Chest: Raptor Hide Harness
Wrist: None (most wrist items will be covered by gloves)
Hands: Inferno Hardened Gloves
Waist: Iceborne Belt
Legs: Volcanic Leggings
Feet: Inferno Hardened Boots
Staff: Piercing Glaive

Full Wowhead Link: Raptor Hide Harness Set

This is a red version of the Yellowish Brown Harness set posted earlier. It is build around the Raptor Hide Harness and uses Volcanic and Inferno Hardened pieces to go with it. I'm not crazy about the Piercing Glaive (I prefer spears and staves over halberds), but it matches the set pretty well.

Heraldic/Potent Set

Male Version
Image

Female Version

Shown Gear:
Head: None
Shoulder: Insignia Mantle
Back: None
Chest: Heraldic Breastplate or Potent Armor
Wrist: None (most wrist items will be covered by gloves)
Hands: Heraldic Gloves or Potent Gloves
Waist: Heraldic Belt
Legs: Heraldic Leggings or Potent Pants
Feet: Heraldic Boots or Potent Boots
Staff: Ruthless Shiv (Note: Unknown if this drops in new Scarlet Monastery, may no longer be obtainable.)

Full Wowhead Link: Heraldic/Potent Set

This is pretty much a posting of a "box set", with the weapon being the only independent pick. It has a nice studded leather look if you prefer a look like that over the Harness look or other options out there. There are 4 different color versions of this armor type: This one, a purple set (Supreme, shown next), a green set (Serpentskin), and a black set (Nightshade). However, I shoulder armor for the green and black sets don't match their respective types very well (at least in my opinion), and I could not find alternatives to plug in that I liked. One final note: I'm not sure if the Ruthless Shiv will still be available after they revamp Scarlet Monastary, so I don't know if Monks will have access to it or not.

Supreme Set

Male Version
Image

Female Version
Image

Shown Gear:
Head: None
Shoulder: Supreme Shoulders
Back: None
Chest: Supreme Breastplate
Wrist: None (most wrist items will be covered by gloves)
Hands: Supreme Gloves
Waist: Supreme Sash
Legs: Supreme Leggings
Feet: Druidic Force Boots
Staff: Gargoyle's Bite

Full Wowhead Link: Supreme Set

This is another "box set" with the same look as the Tough Scorpid set, only in purple. Assembling this set may be very challenging because most of the pieces don't typically drop outside of Classic Vanilla raid zones. Fortunately, most of the pieces have lower level substitutes according to Mogit, so be sure to check it if you're going to go for obtaining this look.

I wish there was a way to combine a long-sleeved brown robe with a brown cowl, and maybe a thin white rope belt.

What? It's a MONK. >.>

That said, I'm sure you could but only in cloth! Your sets are very cool :) I'm with you on liking the first one best, although the second is, well, a close second; the latter two look a smidge too bondage for me.

I like the spears particularly. Do we know yet what weapons will likely become the prime choice for Monks yet? I know fist weapons are the most likely, but I've always been disappointed that polearms were pretty much set aside as eye-candy for hunters...

Well, you can do that with leather but you are limited on items.

Brown(ish) cowls:
Felhide Cap
Expedition Hood (yellow color)
Wastewalker Helm

Brown robes:
Insect Vestments / Acid-Eaten Vest
Robes of the Cheating Heart

Brown kilts, which you could combine with a brown chest piece if you don't like the robes above:
Earthborn Kilt
Kurenai Kilt (alliance only)

And best to wait for MoP for rope belt models, since we don't have any like that yet.

Good luck with the purple Supreme Set, I have been after just 2 pieces from that for my druid since mog became available, and I have NEVER seen even one item of the set on the AH (checking both factions) . And our sever is not even that dead, busy enough (Aman'thul US)
I've almost but given up (I only want the legs and wrists :( )

Scorpashi Set - Modified

Male Version
Image

Female Version
Image

Shown Gear:
Head: None
Shoulder: Scorpashi Shoulder Pads
Back: None
Chest: Scorpashi Breastplate
Wrist: None (most wrist items will be covered by gloves)
Hands: Scorpashi Gloves
Waist: Scorpashi Sash
Legs: Senator's Dignified Pants (Alliance) or Duskwatcher's Leggings (Horde)
Feet: Sandstalker Ankleguards
Staff: Sturdy Quarterstaff

Full Wowhead Link: Scorpashi Set (Modified)

This set is similar to the Heraldic/Potent and Supreme sets posted previously, but has a more primitive feel to it. It uses mostly Scorpashi armor pieces, except for the pants and ankle guards. The original pants for the Scorpashi set is a loin cloth that, strangely, has the exact same graphic as the belt, while the Scorpashi footwear has covers extending to the feet. What I like about swapping out the boots for the ankle guards is that it gives the set a completely open foot look to it. As far as I know, the Sandstalker Ankleguards is the only foot armor piece in leather that leaves the *entire* foot uncovered (except for races that, by default, have open feet when wearing foot armor).

Grizzly Leather Harness Set

Male Version
Image

Female Version
Image

Shown Gear:
Head: None
Shoulder: Flamefly Spaulders (Alliance) or Flamefly Spaulders (Horde)
Back: None
Chest: Grizzly Jerkin
Wrist: None (Most will be covered by gloves)
Hands: Gory Gloves (Alliance) or Charming Gloves (Horde)
Waist: Taunka Belt
Legs: Grizzly Pants
Feet: Scytheclaw Boots
Staff: Sturdy Quarterstaff

Full Wowhead Link: Grizzly Leather Harness Set

This set was perhaps the most challenging leather set I've put together so far. The Grizzly Jerkin and Pants are two of the lowest level green items out there, so much so that the other Grizzly armor pieces are white quality and not usable for transmogrification. That meant finding pieces that were close enough that it brought the set together, and after running it by some other moggaholics on another site as well as soliciting feedback on here, I finally felt comfortable posting this set.

Darkmantle Replica Leather Set

Male Version
Image

Female Version
Image

Shown Gear:
Head: None
Shoulder: Elekk Hide Spaulders
Back: None
Chest: Replica Darkmantle Tunic
Wrist: None (most wrist items will be covered by gloves)
Hands: Replica Darkmantle Gloves
Waist: Replica Darkmantle Belt
Legs: Replica Darkmantle Pants
Feet: Replica Darkmantle Boots
Polearm: Sonic Spear

Full Wowhead Link: Darkmantle Replica Set

This set is nothing special from a creative standpoint. It uses nearly the full Darkmantle leather set that's available in Replica form from the Darkmoon Faire, though I did swap in Elekk Hide Spaulders because I *hate* the look of the Replica Darkmantle Spaulders and other shoulder armor with a similar design. Even though it doesn't have a harness look to it, I still like it because of the colors and overall design, and the Sonic Spear really goes well with this set, it's like they were meant for each other :)
